Venomous

Melanie's POV

Stiles pulled me into our English classroom, scrambling to sit behind Scott. I stood there looking at him. "What the hell?" I ask him.

"Just, sit. I have news to tell you both." He tells me, causing me to roll my eyes and sit next to him.

"Guys, I just talked to my dad, who just talked to Jackson, and I've got really terrible, horrible, very, very bad news." Stiles says to the two of us, causing me to look confused.

"I think I already know." Scott says and Stiles and I follow his gaze seeing Isaac sitting in front of us. The three of us share a look.

-----

After class the three of us walk out, still talking to one another. Stiles begins telling us about what he read about the Kanima.

"All right, I only found one thing online called a Kanima. It's a werejaguar from South America that goes after murderers." He says to us.

"That thing was not a jaguar." Scott says.

"Yeah, and we're not exactly a murderers." I say to them.

"Yeah, but you did see it kill somebody, which is probably why it tried to kill you. And it's still trying to kill you, and it probably won't stop until you're both dead." Scott says and I look at him wide eyed.

"You know, sometimes I really begin to question this "friendship." Stiles says, grabbing my hand before the three of us walk off to our next class.

-----

We were now in Coach's class. I was sitting behind Stiles as he sat next to Scott. Lydia was in the back row, listening to Coach talk.

Jackson walks past Stiles and Scott and took the open seat next to me. I give him a weird look. "Hey, Testicle left and right." He says to Scott and Stiles then looks at me, smirking. "Argent."

"Whittemore." I say, copying him.

"What the hell is a Kanima?" Jackson asks us, all seriousness in his voice. Stiles, Scott and I shared a look, shocked.

Coach cuts us off. "All right, listen up. A quick warning before we begin our review. Some of you, like McCall, might want to start their own study groups, because tomorrow's midterm is so profoundly difficult - I'm not even too sure I could pass it. Okay, I need a volunteer at the board to answer the first question. Who's got it, huh?" Coach gestures to someone. We all look at Lydia. "Come on, let's go, buddy."

"Paralyzed from the neck down. Do you have any idea what that feels like?" Jackson asks us, whispering.

"I'm familiar with the sensation." Stiles says to him.

"Wait - why would Derek test you? Why would he think that it's you?" Scott asks Jackson.

"How should I know?" Jackson asks.

"Wait, do they think it's Lydia?" I ask, my eyes widening slightly, not wanting her hurt by Derek and the others.

"I don't know," Jackson tells me. "all I heard was your name and her name and something about chemistry." He tells me.

"Why my name? I came face to face with it, why does he want to test me?" I ask right before Coach yells. Jackson gives me a quick shrug.

"Melanie! Jackson!" He yells causing us to look at him, while most the class looks at us. "Do you both have something you want to share with the rest of the class?"

I look at Jackson wide eyed. "Um - just an undying admiration for my - my coach."

"That's really kind of you." Coach says then yells. "Now shut up! Shut it!" He looks at the rest of the class. "Anybody else?"

"How do we know it's not her?"

"Because we looked into the eyes of that thing, okay?" I say to Scott. "And what I saw was pure evil." I tell them. "And when I look into Lydia's eyes, I only see 50% evil." The they look at me. "All right, maybe 60. You know, but no more than 40 on a good day."

"Mel, that's not a very good argument." Stiles says.

"I'm aware of that, but I swear it's not her. It can't be, all right? Lydia's okay." I say to them. I look to Lydia, who was still at the front of the classroom.

"Lydia." I say, trying to snap her out of her day dream. She opens her eyes, gasping, realizing whatever she was picturing wasn't real. She was breathing heavily.

"Okay then, anybody else want to try answering?" Coach asks, walking towards Lydia. "This time in English?" He asks, looking at the class. Most of the class laughs besides Scott, Stiles, Jackson and I. I take a picture of her writing.

"What is that, Greek?" Scott asks us.

"No, actually, I think it is English." I say, showing the three the picture but using a mirror affect causing the writing to be "Someone help me."

----

"Derek is not gonna kill her without proof." Scott says to us as we walked into Mr. Harris's classroom.

"All right, so he tests her and Mel like he did with Jackson, right? But when and where?" Stiles asks, I sigh, not wanting to be paralyzed in the middle of class.

"I think here and now." Scott says, as he looks behind us. Erica and Isaac walked into the room.

I quickly moved and sat next to Lydia. "Hey." I say to her.

"Hey M." She says to me as Stiles and Scott sat next to us. Scott on the other side of Lydia, Stiles on my side.

Allison gives me a confused look. "Explain later." I mouth to her. She nods.

"Einstein once said, "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity;  And I'm not sure about the universe." I myself have encountered infinite stupidity." Harris says, patting Stiles shoulder, earning a sarcastic look and nod from Stiles. "So to combat the plague of ignorance in my class, you're going to combine efforts through a round of group experiments. Let's see if two heads are indeed better than one. Or in Mr. Stilinski's case, less than one. Erica, you take the first station. You'll start with -" A bunch of students raised their hands, other than Lydia, Allison, Isaac, Scott, Stiles and I. "I didn't ask for volunteers. Put your hormonal little hands down. Start with Mr. McCall." Harris says to the ones with their hands up. "All right, next two. Melanie and-" Mr. Harris looks around the room.

"Isaac." He finishes. I turn and look at Isaac. He smirks at me causing me to roll my eyes.

Stiles looks at me before shaking my head. "No." He says to me.

"Stiles, I'll be fine." I tell him. "I can take care of myself."

"I know, but I don't want him paralyzing you." He says.

I give him a small smile before having to move to a table with Isaac. I sit next to him and begin the project. "Just tell Derek to wait to do anything to Lydia. I don't care what you do to me, but don't hurt her." I say.

"And why would I tell Derek to wait?" He asks me.

I sigh. "Because I need to talk to him anyway. Tell him I will do it willingly but do not touch Lydia. I have no idea why he wants to test me, I really don't but I'll do it."

"What makes you think I have a choice?" He asks, talking about Erica and him testing Lydia to see if she was the Kanima.

I look at him. "Don't you always have a choice?"

-------

We have switched partners and now I was with Stiles. Isaac ended up with Lydia despite Scott, Stiles and I's attempts to keep her away from him or Erica.

"Time." Harris says after a few minutes. "If you've catalyzed the reaction correctly, you should now be looking at a crystal." I look at our jar. There was a small crystal in it. "Now for the part of that last experiment I'm sure you'll all enjoy - You can eat it." He adds. I look at Stiles.

"You can have it." He tells me, his leg bouncing up and down. I set my hand above his knee, trying to calm him down. He looks at me, I smile slightly right before Scott yells out.

"Lydia!" Everybody looks at Scott.

"What?" She asks looking at him, confused.

"Nothing." Scott says, sighing in defeat before sitting back down in his seat. Lydia eats the small crystal. Allison, Stiles, Scott, Isaac, Erica and I all await to see if anything happens. But nothing does.

----------

Later after class, Allison, Stiles, Scott and I stood in Coach's office, talking about Derek and Lydia.

"Derek is waiting outside for Lydia and Melanie." Scott says.

Allison looks at him. "Waiting to kill them?" Allison asks us. "Wait, you saw it face to face." She says to me. "Why is he trying to test you?" She asks.

"I have no idea." I say to her.

"If he think she's the Kanima, then yes, especially after what happened at the pool." Scott says to us.

"She didn't pass the test, Mel. Nothing happened." Stiles tells me.

"No, it can't be her." I insist, running a hand through my hair.

"It doesn't matter, because Derek thinks it's her. So either we can convince him that he's wrong, or we've got to figure out a way to protect her." Allison says to us.

"Well, I really don't think he's gonna do anything here, not at school." Scott says.

"What about after school? What if we can prove that Derek's wrong?" Allison asks.

"By three o'clock?" Stiles asks us.

"There could be something in the bestiary." Allison says. I nod, agreeing.

"Oh, you mean the 900 - page book written in archaic Latin that none of us can read? Good luck with that." Stiles says sarcastically.

"Actually, I think I know someone who might be able to translate it." Allison says.

"Uh, I can talk to Derek, maybe convince him to give us a chance to prove that it's not her. But if anything happens, you guys let me handle it, okay?" Scott asks us. I scoff.

"What does that mean?" Allison asks him.

"That you can't heal like I do. I just don't want you to get hurt." Scott says to us, mainly to Allison though.

"We can protect ourselves." Allison says as the two of us hold up our mini crossbows we had grabbed from out bags.

"What? Did something else happen?" Allison asks Scott. I move towards Stiles, trying to give them some privacy.

I hand him the crossbow before taking my phone out of my pocket as it buzzed a few times.

Old Subway Station. 9 o'clock. - Derek.

I sigh and put my phone away as an arrow flies past me towards Scott. He quickly turns and catches it before it could hit him. We all look at Stiles.

"Ah. Sorry. Sorry. Sensitive trigger on that." He says, handing me back my crossbow. I put it back in my bag.

"We have until 3." I say to them.

------

Later on after school, Allison, Stiles, Lydia, Jackson and I were walking down the hall as the bell rang.

"If we're doing a study group, why didn't we just stay in the library?" Lydia asks us all. Allison and I share a look.

"Because we're meeting up with someone." Stiles says.

"Hmm, well, why don't they just meet us in the library?" She asks.

"Oh, that would have been a great idea." Stiles says to her.

I look at them. "Too late now." I say.

"Okay, hold on-" Lydia starts but Jackson cuts her off.

"Lydia, shut up and walk." Jackson says to her, pushing her forward, the two walking quicker than we were before. Allison, Stiles and I quickly followed.

----

We were now at Scott's house, the five of us walking inside.

"If we're studying at Scott's house, then where's Scott?" Lydia asks us.

"He's meeting us here." I tell her.

"I hope." Stiles says. I nod slightly.

Stiles closed the front door, locking it, with all the locks it had. Lydia looks at him, confused. "Uh, there's been a few break ins around the neighborhood." He tells her before grabbing a chair and putting it under the doorknob to keep it from opening. Lydia raises her eyebrows, gesturing to the chair. "And a murder." Stiles adds. "It was bad."

Jackson sighs, annoyed, as Allison and I give Lydia forced smiles. I give Jackson a look. "Lydia, follow me." Jackson says to her. "I need to talk to you for a minute."

Lydia sighs, annoyed. "Seriously?" She asks, starting to follow him out of the room. "What is going on with everyone?"

-----

Derek, Isaac, Erica and Boyd were standing across the street from Scott's house.

I was looking out a window. "I think you need to call Uncle Chris." I say to Allison. She nods, agreeing.

"No, but if he finds you here- you and Scott-" Stiles starts.

"I know." Allie says. "But what are we supposed to do? They're not here to scare us, okay? They're here to kill Lydia." She says to him. She sighs, looking at her phone before looking outside.

-----

Stiles was next me, looking out the window. "I got an idea." He says, causing Allison and I to look at him. "Just shoot one of them." He says to us.

"Are you serious?" Allison asks him.

"We cant just shoot one of them." I say.

"We told Scott we could protect ourselves, so let's do it. Or at least give it a shot, right?" Stiles says to us.

"Okay." I say to him, nodding.

"Look, they don't think we're gonna fight, so if one of them gets hit, I guarantee they'll take off. So just shoot one of 'em." He says to us.

"Which one?" Allison says, holding her crossbow.

"Uh - Derek. Yeah, shoot him, preferably in the head." Stiles says.

"If Scott was able to catch an arrow, Derek definitely can." I say to him.

"Okay, uh, just shoot one of the other three then." He says.

"You mean two." Allison says.

"No, I mean three." Stiles says. Allison gives us a look, causing us to look outside. She was right. One of them were gone. Isaac. "Where the hell is Isaac?"

Allison and I backed away from the windows. Someone pushes us into the living room. I watch as Isaac punches Stiles, making him slid back. I glare at the Lahey boy.

I go to shoot an arrow towards Isaac but he catches it. As he was about to take a step towards me, Allison pushes him back into a table. Stiles hits Isaac over the head with a vase.

Lydia walks down the steps. I put my hand up, trying to keep her from walking down any further. "Get backs. Someone's trying to break in, okay? Go." I say to her, but she doesn't move. "Lydia, go please!" She rushes back upstairs.

I walk back into the living room right as Isaac walk punching Stiles. I hit Isaac on the head with the but of my crossbow.

"Mel! Stiles! It's here!" I hear Allison yell from upstairs.

"Shit." I mutter.

Isaac goes to run after me but he gets thrown away. I look up and see Scott. He nods at me before proceeding to throw him outside onto the lawn, then does the same to Erica, who's paralyzed.

Scott steps onto the porch, Stiles, Allie and I following him.

"I think I finally get why you keep refusing me, Scott." Derek says to him. "You're not an Omega, you're already apart of your own pack." He tilts his head. "But you know you can't beat me." He says. He looks at me for a moment.

"But I can hold you off long enough for the police to get here." Scott says as faint police sirens rang in the distance. I hear a slight hissing. I look to the roof along with Derek and Boyd. I move towards the road more, seeing the Kanima. Scott, Stiles and Allison follow me, seeing it as well.

It was crawling on the roof, as it looks to us before screeching, then running off.

Derek looks to Boyd. "Get them out of here." He says.

Lydia stormed out of the house. "Would somebody please tell me what the hell is going on?" She asks. We all look at her, shocked.

"It's Jackson." Scott whispers. Derek and I share a quick look before he takes off. I look at Stiles, sighing.

----

This chapter, to me, is really long. Maybe it's just because it took me forever to write it. I do have a good reason for Derek wanting to test Melanie, but it probably wont be told until towards the end of this season. Also, I'm almost halfway done with this season! I have so many ideas for season 3. I cant wait for next season! Anyways guys, please comment. Thanks fore reading. Bye.

-Kelly.
