Frenemy.

Stiles and I were walking towards Scott, we were outback of a club. "What do we do now?" I ask. Making Scott jump, and turn around to face Stiles and I.

"Holy cr-" Scott starts.

"Wha- sorry, I'm sorry." I say to Scott for scaring him.

Stiles sighs. "Did you see where he went?" He asks Scott.

"I lost him." Scott answers.

"What?" Stiles asks. "You couldn't catch his scent?"

"I don't think he has one." Scott answers. I sigh.

"Any clue on where he could be going?" I ask him. I look around to the front of the club. There were many people inline to try to get inside and passed the bouncer.

"To kill someone." Scott says. I roll my eyes.

Stiles nods, sarcastically. "Ah. That explains the claws, and the fangs, and all that. Good. Makes perfect sense now." Stiles sarcastically said, causing Scott to roll his eyes, looking at him with a serious look. "What? Scott, I'm 110 pounds of pale skin and fragile bone, okay? Sarcasm is my only defense." I smile at him.

"Just help me find it." Scott says.

I give him a look. "Not it. Jackson."

Scott sighs. "Yeah, I know. I- I know."

All right, but does he know that?" Stiles asks us. "Did anybody else see him back at your house?"

"I mean, I don't think so, but he already passed Derek's test anyway." Scott says.

"Yeah, but that's just the thing. How did he pass the test?" Stiles asks.

"I don't know."

"Maybe it's like an either - or thing. I mean, Derek said that a snake can't be poisoned by its own venom, right? When's the Kanima not the Kanima?" I ask the two, looking for them to answer.

"When it's Jackson." I nod at Scott.

"Uh - guys. See that?" Stiles asks us, we look around the corner and see the Kanima's tail going inside the club by the roof.

"He's inside." Scott says.

"What's he gonna do in there?" Stiles asks.

"I know who he's after." Scott says, causing Stiles and I  to look at him in confusion.

"What, how? How? Did you smell something?" Stiles asks him.

"Armani." Scott answers. I look and see Danny at the front of the line, walking inside.

We walked over to the backdoor. Stiles tried to open it but it was locked. I sigh.

"Aw, come on." He complains. "All right, maybe there's, like, a, uh - like, a window we could climb through, or some kind of-" Scott cuts him off by ripping off the door handle. "Handle that we could rip off with supernatural strength. How'd I not think of that one?" He asks. I smile at him, he smiles lightly at me before Scott drops the handle, walking inside.

----

We walked down the hall and into the club. There was strobe and laser lights flashing everywhere. As well as a disco ball twirling with the techno music.

"Dude, everyone in here's a dude, except for Melanie. I think we're in a gay club." Scott says.

"Man, nothing gets past those keen werewolf senses, huh, Scott?" Stiles asks. The two of us turn to see Stiles surrounded by Drag Queens. I laugh.

"Sorry but this guys taken." I say to the three drag queens.

"Damn, well you better take care of him." One of them says.

I smirk. "Trust me, I will." I say and grab Stiles hand to pull him away from the three and over to Scott who was standing at the bar.

"Two beers." Stiles says to the Barkeeper. I laugh lightly.

"I'll take a coke." I say to him. He nods at me then looks at Stiles and Scott.

"IDs." He says to the two. Scott and Stiles take out their IDs. "How 'bout two cokes?"

"Rum and coke? Sure." Stiles says earning a look from the bartender. "Coke's fine, actually. I'm driving anyway."

He comes back with the three cokes. He points to mine and Scott's. "Those two are paid for." He says then points down the bar to two guys, smiling at Scott and I.

"Oh, shut up." Stiles says to Scott.

"I didn't say anything." Scott says.

"Yeah, well, your face did." Stiles says and looks at me. "I don't like that guy." He says, then looks down at the guy who bought my drink. I laugh but stop at the look he was giving me.

I smile and lean up and whisper at him. "He maybe shirtless, but the only guy, shirtless I really want to see is you." I lean back and kiss his cheek, and look at him. He was looking at me, somewhat shocked. I look around and see Danny. "Hey, I found Danny."

"I found Jackson." Scott says, looking at the ceiling. The Kanima was crawling in the ceiling, not really noticeable. It was above Danny and his date.

"Get Danny." Scott says to us. I nod and start walking towards them, not waiting for Stiles.

As I reached Danny, I felt a scratch on my neck. I quickly started to lose feeling in my body, falling. There was people all around, screaming. "Mel!" I hear Stiles yell as he rushed forward.

Stiles leaned over me. "I gotta get you out of here before the cops show up." He says.

"Yeah." I say. He helps me up, practically dragging me outside since I cant really do anything.

Derek ends up quickly in front of us. "What happened to her?" He asks.

"I got scratched by Jackson." I say.

Derek looks at Stiles. "We need to get her out of here."

"I will." Stiles says to him.

Derek looks at him, annoyed. "I'll take her."

"What? No!" Stiles says.

"You need to go help Scott. Melanie cant do anything right now. I will take her home." Derek tells him. Stiles looks at me. I try to nod, but cant.

"Its fine Stiles." I say to him. He nods and kisses my forehead before giving me to Derek, who picks me up, wrapping his one arm under my knees, his other on my back. "I'll be fine Stiles. Go help Scott, I'll call you later." He nods once more before rushing off.

----

We were now at Derek's hideout. I know Isaac was here somewhere. "Thank you." I say to Derek. He nods as he looked through some old book. "Well you got your test. Want to tell me why you wanted to test me?" I ask him.

"I needed to see if I was right about something." He says.

I give him a confused look. "Right about what?" I ask him.

He sighs. "You've been hearing things differently, since Kate-"

"How'd you know?" I cut him off.

He looks up from the book. "Because I'm not stupid." He tells me.

I roll my eyes as the feeling in my arms and legs started to return to normal. "Thank god." I say, trying to stand but almost fall, to be caught by Derek.

"You shouldn't move so quickly." He says to me as he helped me sit back down.

"Why are you so nice to me?" I ask him. "My mother killed your entire family, yet you're not an ass to me. I don't understand."

"She didn't kill me entire family." Derek says, looking at me before looking away.

"Peter and Laura." I say.

"Uh, yeah." He says.

"The lacrosse field, when Scott found out Isaac was a werewolf, outside the principles office when Jackson was talking to the Sheriff. The animal clinic. I don't get it. How is it possible to hear things, that- that I'm not supposed to?" I ask him.

He sighs. "Do you know who your father is?" He asks me.

"No, I've never met him. My mother would hardly speak about him. When she did, she didn't say much." I say to him.

He nods. "I'll drive you home."

"They see you, they'll kill you." I tell him.

He grabs his keys. "They wont see me." He says.

----

After he drove me home, I went straight to my room. I was sitting on my bed, Allison was sitting at my desk as the two of us were talking.

"So it just scratched you?" She asks me.

"Yeah, I have no idea why though." I say to her.

She nods. "Maybe it didn't realize who you were?"

"Maybe." I say. "So, Lydia, is she gonna tell?" I ask her, wanting to know if she was gonna tell anyone of what she saw.

"No. But she does know about Scott and I, but she wont say anything." Allison explains to me. I nod as my phone starts ringing. Stiles' name and picture pops up. "I'll see you in the morning." I nod and give her a small smile before she leaves my room.

I hit the green button. "Hey." I say.

"Are you okay? Derek didn't do anything to you, right?" He asks me.

I smile. "I'm fine Stiles, I promise you." I tell him.

"Okay, good, good." He says.

"So, what did you guys do with Jackson?" I ask him.

"We uh, we took a police van and locked him in the back of it." He says.

My eyes widen at his words. "You what?!"

"We couldn't really do anything else with him. We need to keep him until we are able to convince him that he's dangerous." He explains to me.

"Just, please, be careful." I say to him, worriedly.

"I will, I promise." He says. I smile lightly.

I hear the front door open and close from downstairs. "I gotta go, I'll see you tomorrow."

"Okay. Goodnight Mel." He says.

"Night Stiles." I say and hang up the phone.

----

The next morning, at school. Gerard had called me and Allie into the office.

After we walked in, he walked to his desk, sitting down and asking, "So, who did you say you both were studying with tonight?" He asks us.

"Lydia." I answer.

"We're prepping for our World History midterm." Allie says to him.

"History was one of my favorites." He tells us. "Especially military history. Ever hear the phrase. "Know They Enemy'?" He asks us.

"Art of War by Sun Tzu." I say to him.

Gerard nodded, "Very good. Know what it means?"

Allison and I go quiet for a moment before she speaks up. "In order to win a battle, one must know everything they can about their enemy."

"You're right. Your uncle and father and I happen to be having that very problem. We've got an enemy about which we know next to nothing. It's killed one of our own, among others." He tells us.

"We've heard." I say.

"Did you hear Jackson Whittemore didn't show to school today?" He asks us. I tense up a bit.

Allie lowered her arms. "He didn't?"

"His parents called, as well as the police." He tells us. "You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?" He asks us. Allie and I both shake our heads, no. "Well, let me tell you both what I know. I know that a teenagers first instinct is to protect your friends." He says and stands, walking around the desk to Allie. "And I believe my granddaughters would always protect their friends, even if it meant lying."

Hell yeah. I think to myself, somewhat nervous about him being this close to Allie and I.

He stood behind our chairs. "So, I want to ask one more question, and this time, with a small advantage." He says. Allie and I share a slight confused look before he moved our hair back behind our shoulders. I tense up once again and notice Allison doing the same. "I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to get a sense of your pulses." He tells us before putting two fingers on both of our carotid artery's. "Think of it as a game. All you have to do it tell the truth. Do you know anything about Jackson being missing?"

"No." We both answer.

"Is he in trouble?" He asks.

"We don't know." I say as Allie says, "I- I- I- I don't know." She says "I don't know." She repeats.

"Does this have anything to do about Scott?" He asks.

"No. I mean, I- I don't know." Allie says, nervously.

"You're pulse jumped." He says to her.

"Because you're scaring her. And me." I tell him, annoyed.

Gerard moves away, slightly. "Oh, I'm sorry. That was definitely going to far."

"Yeah. It was." I say to him as Allison says "No kidding."

"It wasn't right for me to use tactics like that." He tells us. "I'm sorry. You both can go back to class." Allison and I get up and she opens the door about to walk out, but stops. I look and see a man putting up a security camera. We look at Gerard, he smiles. "Go ahead." He says.

I nod and grab Allison's arm, pulling her away from him.

----

Allison and I walked into English. I see Scott sitting in his normal desk but Stiles not next to him. I walk over to him and sit in my normal seat, which is behind Stiles'.

"Scott." Allison says as she sits behind him.

Aunt Victoria then walks in. Allison, Scott and I share a confused look. "I'm afraid your teacher was feeling ill today, and had to leave early. So, unfortunately, you're stuck with me as a substitute." She says and leans against the teachers desk and looks towards the three of us. "Can anyone catch me up to where we are? Mr. McCall, how about you?"

Scott sighs and opens his notebook.

-----

At the end of class, Allison and I were the lasts to leave, only to be stopped by Aunt Victoria.

"Melanie, Allison. We've noticed quite a few calls on both of your phone's to the odd one. Stilinski." Victoria says.

I sigh, "He's my boyfriend. And a good friend of Allison's." I say to her. She sighs but nods then looks at Allison.

"I know it's hard, sitting here, trying not to look at him." She says to her, talking about Scott. "Trying to stay away from one of your best friends as much as possible unless it's necessary. But think of how strong it makes you. Especially when all these other girls are just letting their entire high school lives be defined by some boy they're just praying will talk them to senior prom or letting their friendships being ruined by something a lot meaningful than this." Victoria says to us.

"Can't I be strong and go to prom?" Allison asks her mom.

Aunt Victoria smiles. "Of course. But with other people." Her smile fades, her face becomes completely serious. "Remember, so long as you stay strong, we wont have to kill a 16 year old boy."

------

"I'm on my way." I say into my phone to Stiles as I drove quickly down the road, probably breaking every speeding law ever.

"What why?" He asks.

I sigh. "I'll tell you when I get there." I say and hang up the phone, throwing it on the passenger seat.

After a few minutes or so I pull up to where Stiles has the police van. I get out of the car and begin walking towards the van as I step on the twig. Stiles quickly turns around, jumping. "I'm sorry! They kno-" I say to him but he cuts me off.

He doesn't say anything but pulls me into a tight hug. "I thought I was gonna have to kill the sour-wolf."

"I told you, he didn't hurt me." I say to him.

A twig snapped behind us, causing the two of us to turn around quickly. "Oh my god." Stiles says.

"They know." Allison says to him.

"What?" Stiles asks.

"They know Jackson's missing." I say to him.

He looks at me, his eyes widened. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I was going to but you kinda cut me off." I say to him.

"But that makes no sense. I've been texting his parents since last night. They don't have a clue." Stiles tells us.

"Our grandfather told us his parents went to the police." Allison says to him. "They know."

"Oh-" Stiles groans and hands me Jackson's phone by two fingers. He walks over to the front of the van, listening to the police radio. I watch as he switches it on with the button. "All available units proceed to Beacon Hills Preserve with caution until Sheriff Stilinski's arrival. Repeat, proceed with caution." He looks at me.

"Where are we going?" I ask him.

"Somewhere far away from here." He tells me. I nod as does Allison.

-------

We were now at a different part of the Preserve. Scott was now here. We were talking about Jackson.

"If he doesn't remember being the Kanima, he's definitely not gonna remember stealing Danny's tablet." Scott tells us.

"Why would he steal the thing if he doesn't even know what's on it?" Stiles asks.

"What if it wasn't him?" I ask them. "What if someone else took it?"

"There's something else. You said the only thing you found online about the Kanima is that it goes after murderers. What if that's actually true?" Scott asks us.

"No, it can't be. Tried to kill all of us, remember? I don't know about you three, but I haven't murdered anybody lately." Stiles says to us. I nod, agreeing with him.

"Neither have I, and he went after me in the club." I say to them.

"But I - I don't think that it was actually trying to kill us. Remember when we were at Isaac's the first time, it just went right by us, didn't it?" Scott asks Allison.

"You're right, it just ran off." She replies.

"And it didn't kill you and Melanie in the mechanic's garage."

"Well, yeah, but it tried to kill me and Derek in the pool and then Mel in the club." Stiles says to them.

"Did it?" Scott asks.

"It would've. It was waiting for us to come out." Stiles says to him.

"What if it was trying to keep you in?" Scott asks.

"Why do I feel so violated all of a sudden?" Stiles asks. I smile lightly at him.

"Because there's something else going on. We don't know what it is. We don't know anything about what's going on with Jackson, or why someone's protecting him." Scott says.

"Know thy enemy." Allison says. "Just something our grandfather said." Allison says.

"All right, I got it. Kill Jackson. Problem solved." I give Stiles a look.

"He risked his life for us. Against Peter, you remember that?" Scott asks.

"Yes, but what did we just find out? He got the bite from Derek. It's funny how he just got exactly what he wanted by supposedly risking his life for us, it's funny." Stiles says.

"Yeah, it doesn't mean he's not still worth saving." Scott tells him.

"It's always something with him, though." Stiles says.

"He doesn't know what he's doing." Scott says to him.

"So what?" Stiles asks. I sigh.

"So, I didn't either. You remember when I almost killed you and Jackson? I had someone to stop me. He has nobody." Scott says.

"That's his own fault." I give Stiles another look.

"Doesn't matter. If we can save him, we should try." Scott tells him. I nod agreeing.

----

"I need to tell Lydia everything." I say to Stiles as we sat in my car.

"Everything as in, Scott's a werewolf, Derek, Isaac, Erica, and Boyd as well?" He asks me.

I look at him. "She's one of my best friends. She deserves to know what the hell is going on, especially if she's turning into something."

"You can't tell her. It's the same reason Scott and I cant tell my dad and his mom. This secret could get them killed." Stiles explains to me.

I sigh. "Then not knowing could get them killed. Lydia could be changing into something and we don't know what. The bite either changes someone, or kills them."

"What about until after everything is over?" He asks me. "Until we stop Jackson and the other hunters and until we figure out what she is."

"Okay." I say, nodding. "Okay." I repeat and lay my head on his shoulder, closing my eyes. "Thank you."

"For what?" He asks as he rests his head on top of mine. I look up at him, smiling.

"For being there for me, with my mom and everything." I say to him.

"I'll always be here for you." He says to me. I smile at him before closing my eyes once again.

------

There was a loud crash, waking up Stiles and I. The two of us quickly rushed out of my car and towards the van, seeing the door broke and Jackson gone.

Stiles and I share a look before he went to get Scott and Allison.

We were now all standing by the van. "I have to tell my father." I nod at Allison. Scott sighs. "He's going to kill someone."

"Okay, tell him. Tell him everything." Scott says.

"I have to tell my dad." Stiles says. I look at him. "Mel, you were right. They need to know." I nod.

"This is all my fault." Scott tells us.

"It's not." Allison tells him. "But we have to tell them. We're just a bunch of teenagers. We cant handle this."

"You're right." Scott and I both say.

Allison looks at Stiles. "How are you gonna make your dad believe all this?" She asks him.

"I don't know." He says.

Scott's nails change to his claws, as his eyes turn gold. "He'll believe me."

-------

Allison and I walked into her room later on. She turns on her light. I see Lydia sitting on the bed, scaring Allison and I both.

"You scared the hell out of us." I say to Lydia.

"I've been sitting here for an hour, waiting for you." She tells us. I frown slightly, feeling bad.

"We cant hang out right now, Lydia." Allison tells her.

Lydia stands. "I don't need someone to hang out with. I need someone to talk to." She says to us. I nod at her, walking closer.

"I-- I understand that its important but if it can just wait." Allison says. I give Allison a look.

"Why is everyone always telling me to wait?" Lydia asks us. "Why cant anyone have 'right now' open?" She asks.

"Because you can't have everything right now." Allison says. "You know what I need?" Allison asks her, taking her scarf off. "I need someone to translate five pages of Archaic Latin. Obviously that's not gonna happen soon." Allison says, frustrated.

"I know Archaic Latin." Lydia says. I look at her confused.

"You know Archaic Latin?" I ask her.

"I got bored with Classical Latin." She tells us.

Allison and I share a look. "Just how smart are you?" I ask our best friend.

"Just show me the pages." Lydia says, holding out her hand.

I grab out my laptop from my bag, putting it on Allison's desk.

--------

Lydia sat at Allison's desk later on, looking at the screen that had the Kanima's description on it from the bestiary.

Allison and I stood behind her, looking over her shoulders. "Are you sure? Ms. Morrell said that means 'friend.' 'The Kanima seeks a friend.'"

Lydia shrugs. "She was wrong. It means master.'" She says to us.

"The Kanima seeks a master." I say, looking at Allison.

"Why? Is that important?" Lydia asks us. She walks over to Allison's bed, sitting down.

Allison sits at her desk. "Yeah. Someone's not protecting him. Someone's controlling him."

Allison and I share a look.

-----

This chapter's really long. What do you guys think of this chapter? Derek and Melanie kinda talked a bit. What are your thoughts on that? Anyways, I know I say this a lot but can y'all please comment. I like reading your comments and stuff.
