Abomination
Melanie's POV
After Deaton helped me clean my cut, we started talking.
"They're coming back, so we don't have much time to talk." Deaton says and takes rubbing alcohol out to help Scott's wounds.
"What is that?" He asks the vet.
"Rubbing alcohol. You don't want it to get infected, do you?" He asks Scott. "You will heal the same, just not as quickly, because of Derek." I roll my eyes at the Alphas name.
"Okay, how do you know all this?" He asks. "Actually, how - How do you know anything?" Scott asks his boss.
"It's a longer story. What I can tell you, is that I know about your kind." Deaton says. "Your kind? I can help." He looks at the body on the table. "This. This is something different."
"Well, do you know what did it?" I ask Deaton.
"No. But the Argents will. And this is the crucial part, they'll have a record or book. It'll have descriptions, histories, notations, of all the things that they've discovered." Deaton says. A book? I've never seen a book like that.
"All the things? How many different things are there?" Scott asks. I hear the door. I grab Scotts arm and hide in the other room connected to the one we were just in.
"I'm starting to think I need to buy a more prominent "closed" sign." I hear Deaton say.
"Hello, Alan. It's been a while." I hear my Grandfather say. "The last I heard, you had retired."
"Last I heard you followed a code of conduct." Deaton says. I smirk.
"If you hadn't noticed, this body is one of ours." I hear Uncle Chris say.
"I did, I also noticed the gunpowder residue on his finger tips. So don't assume I will be swayed by your philosophy just 'cause I'll answer a few questions." Deaton says.
"He was only 24." Uncle Chris says
"Killers come in all ages." Deaton replies.
"All ages, sizes, shapes. It's the last one that concerns us." Gerard says.
"How about you tell us what you found?"
"See this cut? Precise. Almost surgical. This isn't the wound that killed him. This had a more interesting purpose." Deaton says.
"Relating to the spine." Gerard says.
"That's right. Whatever made this cut, it's laced with a paralytic toxin, potent enough to disable all motor functions. These are the cause of death. Notice the patterns on each side." Deaton says.
"Five for each finger."
"Each claw." Gerard says
"As you can see, it dug in, slashed upward, eviscerating the lungs and slicing through the bone of the rib cage with ease." Deaton tells them.
"Have you ever seen anything like this before?" Chris asks.
"No." Deaton replies.
"Any idea at all what killed him?" Chris asks the vet.
"No. But I can tell you it's fast, remarkably strong, and has the capacity to render its victims essentially helpless within seconds." Deaton tells them.
"If you're saying we should be cautious? We get it." Chris says.
"I'm saying you should be afraid. Be very afraid. Because in the natural world, predators with paralytic toxins use them to catch and eat their prey. This prey wasn't eaten. That means whatever killed him only wanted to kill him. In fact, killing may be its only purpose." Deaton says. Scott and I leave the animal clinic.
------
After leaving Deaton's, Stiles had me come with him to the mechanics.
Stiles and I walk in, seeing the guy under the jeep, fixing something. "Hey! Hey? Wh - what do you think you're doing? All I needed was a starter." He tells the guy.
"Yeah, but it looks like your whole exhaust system has got to be replaced here." The guy says.
"Why do I get the feeling you're slightly over - estimating the damage?" I ask the guy. He sends a small smirk my way which makes me roll my eyes.
"It's probably gonna run you around like twelve - hundred parts and labor." The guy says to Stiles.
"Are you kidding? This thing doesn't have a catalytic converter. And yes, I know what a catalytic converter is." Stiles says.
"Do you know what a limited slip differential is?" The guy asks.
"No -"
"Yeah, coming on more like fifteen - hundred." I roll my eyes again.
"Okay. Just finish. I'll be back here, seething with impotent rage!" Stiles exclaims, grabbing my hand pulling me to the back room.
"Oh. Nice. It's real sanitary." Stiles says as he wraps something off on his jeans. "Quality establishment you're running here."
"Figures." Stiles mutters to him self as we walk in the room.
Stiles pulls out his phone from his pocket but it drops to the floor. I look at him confused. "Wha-" He suddenly falls to the ground. "Stiles!"
"Whoa." He says, "No!" He yells. I hear a machine turn on. "No! Hey! Hey!" He yells trying to get the guys attention as the jeep was about to crush him. I get up and grab the knife I had out from my back pocket. I see the lizard thing there.
"Shit." I mutter to myself. I carefully, but quickly, walk forward. I try to hit the button to lift the jeep but suddenly get thrown.
"Melanie!" Stiles yells.
I stand up and face the lizard thing, my knife facing it. "Come on!" I yell at it. It goes to run at me but stops and stares at me. It suddenly rushes away.
I rush back to Stiles as he starts to regain feeling. "What the hell?" I mutter to myself.
---------
Stiles and I were by an ambulance, talking to his dad. "I told you, I just - we walked in and saw the jeep on top of the guy, that's all."
"What's wrong with your hand?" His dad asks him.
"Nothing. Can I- can we just get out of here now?" Stiles asks, grabbing my hand.
"Look, if there's something you guys don't think you can tell me -"
"You think we're lying?" Stiles asks his father.
"No, of course not. I'm just worried about you. Now, if you guys saw someone do this, if you're afraid that maybe they're gonna come back and make sure you don't say anything about it -" Stiles cuts him off.
"We didn't see anything. At all. Can we go now please?" Stiles asks.
"Sure. But not in your jeep. We're gonna have to impound it." Stiles gives him a look of disbelief. "Sorry kid, evidence. I'll see you at home. Bye Melanie."
"Bye Mr. Stilinski." I say and he walks away.
"All right, well, at least make sure they wash it." Stiles says.
"You okay?" Scott asks once we get into his car.
"Yeah." I mutter.
"You were right. It's not like you. I mean, its eyes were almost like, reptilian. But there was something about them." Stiles says.
"What do you mean?" Scott asks, confused.
"You know when you see, like, a friend in a Halloween mask, but all you can actually see are their eyes and you feel like you know 'em but you just can't figure out who it is?" He asks.
"Are you saying you know who it is?" Scott asks.
"No, but I think it knew Mel and I." Stiles answers.
------------
I walk up towards Stiles and Scott, who were sitting on the stairs.
"I'm so sorry about the other day. I'm trying. We'll get through this. Uh, I know, because I love you. I love you more than -"
"Okay, if I just walked into my boyfriend confessing his love for his best friend - I'm gonna walk away slowly." I say, slowly backing away. Stiles grabs my arm.
"No, no, no- no you don't." He says to me, pulling me and sitting me next to him, his arm wrapped around me. He looks at Scott. "oh, my God. I can't - You and Allison just have to find a better way to communicate."
"Come on, you're the only one that we can trust. Is she coming to the game tonight?" Scott asks hun.
"Yes! Okay, message complete." Stiles says. "Now, tell me about your boss?"
"He thinks that Allison and Melanie's, family keeps some kind of, uh, records of all the things that they've hunted. Like a book." Scott says.
"He probably means a bestiary." I say.
"What?" Scott asks, confused.
"A bestiary." Stiles says, repeating my words.
"I think you mean bestiality." I sigh at Scott's words.
"Nope, pretty sure I don't. It's like an encyclopedia of mythical creatures."
"How am I the only one who doesn't know anything about this stuff." Scott asks. I roll my eyes.
"Okay, you're my best friend, you're a creature of the night, it's kind of like a priority of mine." Stiles says to him.
"Okay. If we can find it, and it can tell us what this thing is -" Scott says.
"And who." I cut in.
"We need that book." Scott and Stiles say in unison.
----
"I think you mean -" Allison starts.
"No, I mean bestiary. And the two of you, I don't want to know what's going on in your heads." Stiles says to my cousin. I laugh lightly.
'Okay, um. Can you describe this thing?" Allison asks.
"It's probably like a book. Old, worn." I say to her. "I haven't really talked to him so I was hoping you would know?"
Allison: Like, bound in leather?" She asks us.
"Yes." Stiles says. Stiles grabs my hand, dragging me back into the school to find Scott.
--------
"Seen her grandfather. With a book like that." Scott asks us.
"She says. Has to be. Office." Stiles says, all out of breathe, before dragging me outside.
"You know, drug dealers have been using disposable cellphones pretty successfully for years." Stiles says to Allie.
"My parents check every call, email and text message I send. Trust me, they'd find it." Allison tells him. I nod agreeing.
"All right, can you get the book?" Stiles asks her.
"Not without his keys." Allison says.
"It's always the fucking keys." I mutter, sitting down next to her.
-------
Later that night at the lacrosse game, I am sitting with Allison and Gerard.
"Come on, is that thing even a teenager? I wanna see a birth certificate. Who or what is that genetic experiment gone wrong?" I hear Coach ask Stiles.
"Eddie Abramovitz, Coach. They call him The Abomination." Stiles replies.
"Oh, that's cute." Coach says.
"I knew I should have brought a warmer jacket." Allison says.
"You're cold, here take my coat." Gerard says to her, taking off his coat.
"Are you sure?" She asks him.
"Oh, yeah." He answers.
"Thanks." Allison says.
"Good God, is it always this violent?" Gerard asks as Allison hands me Gerard's keys without him noticing. I smirk before standing.
"I'll be right back." I say before getting off the bleachers.
I look over at Stiles once I get to the side of the bleachers. I see him already looking at me. I nod at him before he looks at Coach before quickly walking my way.
"Hey." I say to him.
"You got the keys?" He asks me as we walk towards the school.
I hold up the keys, waving them in front of him. "Duh." I say before walking towards the school, holding his hand.
I hear someone crying as I pass Lydia's car. I walk towards the drivers side, letting go of Stiles' hand. "Lyds?" I ask, slightly bending down to look into the window. "Lydia, what's wrong?"
"Go away Mel." She says to me, still crying.
"What's wrong?" I ask her, getting no reply. "Lydia?"
"Look, I don't need anyone seeing my cry." Lydia says to me.
"Ah, come on, Lydia. Look, you shouldn't care if people see you cry, all right? Especially you. And especially in front of me." I tell her.
"Why?' She asks me.
"Because, you're my best friend."
You're gonna think I'm crazy." She says to me.
"Lydia, if you trust me on anything, you can trust me on this. There's nothing that you can say to me that'll make you sound crazy." I tell her. I toss the keys behind my back to Stiles, looking at him then nodding to the school. He nods and runs off. "Okay, so why don't we have a girls night tonight?" I ask her.
"Okay." She says to me, nodding.
"Okay. You go home, pick out any movie and the snacks and I will meet you there? I'll see if I can bring Allie too?" I ask her.
"Yeah." She smiles at me, wiping away her tears. I smile at her.
"I'll meet you at my house with my pajamas and my IPod so we can listen to awesome music and have one hell of a sleepover." I say to her smiling. She smiles at me. "Don't forget the snack!" I say to her.
"I wont." She says. I nod at her before rushing into the school.
---------
I rush into the gym, hearing people talking. I notice Erica on the ground and Stiles holding up Derek in the pool.
"What the hell is going on?" I ask them.
"Melanie get out of here!" Derek yells.
"Melanie!" I hear Stiles yells right as I am thrown into the wall.
I open my eyes, trying to move. "What the fuck?" I mutter as I notice the lizard coming towards me. "Oh shit." I mutter before pulling out my knife. "Game on." I whisper as I stand up, and point my knife at the lizard thing.
"Mel! Get put of here!" Stiles yells at me. I look at him quickly before looking at the lizard again.
"Come on!" I say to it, causing it to let out a loud shriek. I move back slightly due to the loud noise.
"Melanie, get out of here!" Derek yells once again.
I ignore him as the lizard thing walks closer, making a low hissing noise. "Come on!" I exclaim. I feel a sharp pain in my side and I'm thrown into the pool. I swim back up to the top. "Oh that bitch!"
"What part of get out of here don't you understand?" Derek asks me. I roll my eyes as I notice the water next to me turn red.
I look down at the side of my stomach, seeing a large cut from my knife. "It cut me with my own knife before throwing me in here!" I exclaim.
-------
In the past two hours Derek almost drowned, we learned that stupid Lizard couldn't swim and that Scott is an idiot.
Now I was outside with Stiles and Scott. I had one of Stiles flannels on and gauze on my stomach. I have to go get Deaton to check it out sometime tomorrow.
"How are we supposed to figure out what this thing is?" Scott asks us.
"It's called a Kanima." Derek says walking up with Erika.
"You knew the whole time." I ask him, giving him a confused look.
"No. Only when it was confused by its own reflection." Derek says to us.
"It doesn't know what it is." Scott says.
"Or who." Derek says.
"What else do you know?" Stiles asks Derek.
"Just stories, rumors." Derek says.
"But it's like us?" Scott asks.
"A shape - shifter, yes, but it's - it's not right. It's like a -" Derek starts.
"An abomination." I finish his words.
"Derek? We need to work together on this. Maybe even tell the Argents."
"You trust them?" Derek asks. I give him an offended look.
"I'm right here." I say to him, which they ignore. I frown slightly. Stiles grabs my hand, rubbing his thumb on my knuckles. I smile at him lightly.
"Nobody trusts anyone!" Scott exclaims. "That's the problem. While we're here, arguing about who's on what side, there's something scarier, stronger and faster than any of us, and it's killing people and we still don't even know anything about it." Scott says.
"I know one thing, when I find it? I'm gonna kill it!" Derek says before walking away, Erika following.
---------
"Thanks for dropping me off here." I say to Stiles as we pull up to Lydia's house, parking out front.
"It's fine." He says to me before looking down at my side. "How is it?" He asks me.
I shrug. "I can hardly feel it." I reply.
"Is that because you're a hunter, or because you've been getting weird things going on?" He asks me. I give him a confused look. "I know you felt what happened to Erika that day in gym, and I know you've been able to hear things differently since the night of the dance." He says to me.
"How'd you know?" I ask him.
"I knew something was wrong, I just put two and two together." He tells me. I frown slightly at him. "Why did you not tell me?"
"Stiles, we have enough to worry about. Gerard, this stupid lizard, Derek. I don't want you or anyone else to stress out about anything else." I tell him.
"You can always tell me anything. I'm- I'm here for you." He says to me.
I nod. "I know. And I promise I wont lie anymore."
"Okay." He whispers before kissing me. I smile, kissing him back for a moment.
"I need to go." I say to him before kissing him once more quickly. "I love you." I say before grabbing my bag opening the door to the jeep.
I close the door and get out not giving him time to reply. Did I really just say that to him?
I knock on Lydia's front door. Her mom answers. "Hi Mrs. Martin, Lydia and I were supposed to hang out. She's here right?" I ask her.
"Hi Melanie, it's great to see you. And yes, she's up in her room. You can go right on up." She tells me. I nod and smile at her before going up the stairs to Lydia's room.
I knock on her bedroom door. "Come in." I hear her say.
I walk in and see her sitting on her bed with a bunch of movies, junk food and in her pajamas. "I am so sorry I am late. But I brought you your favorite candy!" I say to her, pulling out a package of gummy worms. She smiles at me.
"You're lucky you brought them." She says. I laugh and jump on her bed.
