Chapter 10

The elevation on a mountain by minimum is 1,969 feet (600 m).Converting meters to miles, it would take 0.37282272 of a mile to travel down a mountain, not including the twists and turns mountains usually have. This is also assuming there is one mountain on flat land on sea level.

However, the mountain Zoe had to travel down was much more complicated. The town she was heading to was fortunately easy to find due to the one straight road that lead there. Unfortunately, due to being 5987m in elevation, it would take approximately four miles to get to town which would take about one hour and fifty minutes to walk.

But that isn't all.

There are twists and turns down mountains making travel time longer. And the town was roughly twelve miles away is she remembered correctly. Assuming her walk speed is 3 mph, it would take about four hours to reach town, not including the twists, turns, ups, and downs on mountain hills.

In total, Zoe had to travel five hours and fifty minutes to town.

Someone might say it wouldn't be too difficult as people go to amusement parks for sometimes seven hours in a day. On the hand though, was that person going to an amusement park when it was snowing? When it was 10 degrees below zero in Fahrenheit?

Most likely not.

Zoe is traveling with a 30 pound bag on her back, wearing a shirt, sweater, and one snow jacket. She wore jeans, socks, boots, and winter gloves. She needed more layers but at the moment it wasn't on her mind.

She was more focused on getting far enough from her cabin until she felt safe enough to slow down and take her traveling with ease.

But she didn't know nothing about this travel would be at ease.

It was almost dinner time which for her is 8. The sun normally goes down about 10 o' clock in Montana. She would need to walk more than 3 mph to escape tonight's blizzard in order to live.

...

Mirage was reclined in his chair as he sat in a meeting with humans and Autobots. He was barely paying attention as he didn't truly care to be present. Being the head of Special Operations now meant he had to attend each meeting that required all the heads. Surprisingly, it happened often. Especially now that the humans were becoming more aware of their existence.

Ironhides holoforms eyes glanced at Mirage across from him, his own posture clearly showing he was listening as his elbows sat on the table while his hands were curled into a fist underneath his scruffy chin. He made a small grunt and Mirage looked at him.

Ironhide gave him a look as he commed him. ::Could you try to appear more engaged?::

Mirages blue eyes rolled a little and he shifted a bit but he didn't sit up or uncross his arms. ::Why? I don't really need to be here. This meeting is unnecessary. We know humans are finding out about us, why not just let it loose?::

::You know why.:: Ironhide frowned at his negative tone. ::It would cause a panic. You know we can't have that.::

Mirage scoffed and looked away. ::Wouldn't it be better to inform the public about things like this? So perhaps they can be aware and save their own life so we don't?:: Mirage frowned.

::No. And we save the humans because Optimus orders it. What has gotten into you?:: Ironhide scowled, his shoulders squaring a bit as he tensed.

Mirage then sat up and glared. ::Me? What's gotten into me!? You hate humans too Ironhide, don't even act like you do!:: He snapped.

::I did but now I see what Optimus means. I saw a human sparkling get born and I see her grow everyday. I see why their life is precious and I will protect them.:: Ironhide corrected him seriously, watching the younger mechs movements.

Ratchet, who had clearly caught they were talking to one another, glared and snapped at the mech beside him and across the table from him. ::If you two are about to make a scene then take it outside of the meeting room when were done. We aren't making any bad impressions for Optimus.:: the medic huffed then turned back to listen to the General, Lennox, and Optimus who were discussing most of the meeting by themselves.

Ironhide grunted and glanced back at Mirage, his expression softening a little. ::Look, kid. I'm not telling you to go bond to some human to appreciate the beings here. But try to at least act like you care about this planet. I know you are still hurting-.::

Mirages expression darkened. He hated hearing those words. The pity.

"Shut up!" Mirage snapped and stood, silencing Lennox from his dialogue once he slammed his hands on the table. Mirage glared down at Ironhide, ignoring Ratchets stern stare. "You know nothing, Ironhide! Don't give me your sorry words and advice, I don't need them and I never will."

Ironhide stood then too, ignoring Ratchets tug at his leather jacket. "You need to quit the attitude Mirage-!"

"It's fragging Dino!" Mirage snapped, his eyes glaring more fiercely than before, tense.

"I don't give one damn slag about what you changed your name to! You're name is Mirage and you can't change that because someone you cared about died! I lost many but I'm not acting like an asshole and like a selfish sparkling!" Ironhide shouted, his hands on the table curling to fists. Optimus stood then, deciding then was when he would need to intervene by Mirages scary look.

"Frag you Ironhide. I hope you rot in the pits." Mirage growled, turning and leaving. He threw the papers off a cabinet nearby in frustration then slammed the door shut.

The room was awkward and silent. Ironhide then realized he was still in the meeting as his anger slowly died out. Ratchet glared at him as the others looked confused. Optimus sighed as Ironhide slowly sat back in his chair. "I sincerely apologize. Dino has been...struggling to cope with Jazz's death." He muttered as he slowly sat down too.

Lennox shook his head. "Maybe he shouldn't attend meetings for a little while. I'm sure it was a bit traumatizing. We humans usually give a break to someone who has suffered like this so they have time to recover." He said calmly. Optimus hummed at the notion, noting it might be a good idea for Mirage.

"Thank you William, I will consider it." Optimus mused calmly. "Now, what were you saying earlier?" He questioned and Lennox thought for a moment before continuing his presentation of his notes. Ratchet then took the time to give Ironhide a death glare who suddenly decided to look away.

::You're check-up is soon. Remember that.:: Ratchet grunted. Ironhide sent him a glare.

::Oh hush Ratchet, the youngling needed to hear it.:: Ironhide grunted and crossed his arms. Ratchet rolled his eyes and went back to paying attention to the meeting.

...

In Montana, Zoe slowed to a fast paced walk, her breath shaky and hitched. Her lungs felt on fire and her throat felt frozen, blocking air. A light headed sensation washed over her and she soon stopped to lean against a tree, panting. Zoe attempted to slow her breathes so she wouldn't pass out, slumping to sit down on the wet grass in exhaustion. She had no idea how she was going to travel so far if she could barely run for ten minutes.

The freezing weather made her feel she used all the energy she had as the adrenaline started to go away.

A soft whine left Zoe as she hugged herself, seeing a green sign not far ahead with the town of Broadview that was 16 miles away.

Zoes eyes closed and she leaned forward, hugging her knees.

Resting sounded nice.

Closing her eyes and going to sleep for just at least ten minutes seemed the best thing in the world all of a sudden.

But she shakily got up after a moment and continued on her way.

As much as sleeping sounded great, not freezing to death sounded much better.
