Chapter 39: SCP-701 "The Hanged King's Tragedy"
Here we see you and Markiplier heading to a locker room and you see Dr. Collingwood and Dr. Patience gathering up some scripts and papers.
(Y/N): "Hey Dr. Collingwood and Dr. Patience."
Dr. Patience: "Ah yes (Y/N), glad to see you here."
Markiplier: "Need help moving stuff around?"
Dr. Collingwood: "Oh yes, we need some muscle to move the documents around because we're researchers and not body builders."
(Y/N): "What are these documents for?"
Dr. Patience: "SCP-701 also known as The Hanged King's Tragedy."
(Y/N): "That sounds familiar, what's the plot of that play?"
Dr. Collingwood: "The play is set in the Kingdom of Trinculo (probably a misspelling of Trinacria, another name for Sicily), in the capital city of Serko (another name for the city of Syracuse). As the play opens, Sforza, the king of Trinculo, has died, supposedly from natural causes while on retreat from the court. The nobility of Trinculo gathers in the capital for the coronation of the new king, Sforza's younger brother, Gonzalo, who has also married Sforza's queen, Isabella. Despite the text's references to contemporary Italian city-states, such as Florence and Milan, much of the play's setting is obviously pure fantasy. There were never any kings of Sicily comparable to Gonzalo and Sforza, and the capital of the historical Kingdom of Sicily was Palermo, not Syracuse. (The author may have chosen to move the play's events to Syracuse, due to that city's historical association with tyranny). There is also no record of any country or place known by the name Alagadda, a mysterious but apparently powerful state that plays a significant role in the plot. It may be intended as a reference to one of the Muslim states or cities on the Mediterranean coast, such as Tunis or Algiers."
(Y/N): "Oh yeah I remember directing that play."
Markiplier: "What?"
Dr. Collingwood: "You did? Since when?"
(Y/N): "When I was in college, I remembered it like it was yesterday."
Flashback
We see the dress rehearsals of the play and we see a woman playing Isabella the Queen of Trinculo and CORNARI, a priest. Next to them is a guy playing as the dead king Sforza.
Woman: *acting*"It was I, I was the one who put sleeping potions in my husband's drink."
Guy: *acting*"Your majesty, you alright maybe we should-"
Woman: *acting*"It was not I who killed the king, it was Gonzalo."
Guy: *acting*"Maybe I should go, I don't think I should be hearing any of this."
Woman: *acting*"But I have confessions and I-"
(Y/N): "Cut!"
Woman: "Ugh what now (Y/N)?"
(Y/N): "One you need to put more feeling to the voice, like from the gut. You're confessing your crimes of killing the king."*to the guy*"And you are a priest, you need to feel nervous about the confession, opening night is in 2 weeks."*to the other guy*"And you, I saw your eyes open, you should play dead."
Guy 2: "Sorry."
(Y/N): "Alright everyone let's start back from the top and action!"
Woman: *acting*"It was I, I was the one who put sleeping potions in my husband's drink."
Guy: *acting*"Your majesty, you alright maybe we should-"
Woman: *acting*"It was I who killed him! Gonzalo and I plotted to kill the king."
(Y/N): "Cut!"
Woman: "What's wrong?"
(Y/N): "Those aren't the lines, you're supposed to put the blame on Gonzalo, not work with him."
Woman: "But I'm just reading from the script."
(Y/N): "What? Hold on, let's take 5, I'm gonna check to see if we're using an older version."
Flashback end
Dr. Collingwood: "I see, those are the effects of SCP-701, in 1 to 2 weeks prior the event both actors and crew members start to deviate from the original script."
(Y/N): "Yes! I knew I wasn't going crazy."
Dr. Patience: "Honestly, I didn't know you made it out alive (Y/N)."
(Y/N): "Uh what do you mean?"
Dr. Collingwood: "Usually at the end of the play, the audience, actors, and crewmates will be attacking each other or committing suicide. Do you happen to see anything on Opening Night?"
(Y/N): "Well I did see a guy in a strange outfit with chains on him."
Flashback
We see you watching the play from off stage and you are enjoying it.
(Y/N): "Man, I did a good job."
Guy: *acting*"You are more tribute than you realize."
(Y/N): "Wait, that wasn't in the script, he was supposed to arrest Gonzalo, not kill him."
Guy: *acting*"Francisco, make sure he doesn't try to escape."
Guy 2: *acting*"Yes sir."
You then see a figure in a white outfit and a series of chains on him walk by you.
(Y/N): "Who was that guy? What is he doing here?"
You then see the figure enter the stage and turn to the others.
Guy 3: "Wait who's that, this wasn't in the script."
Guy: *acting*"With this."*pulls out a knife*"Tribute will be paid in full."
(Y/N): "Oh come on they're doing a whole new ending, I'm out of here!"
You then leave the stage before the play finishes as we see the guy kill off the guy who plays Gonzalo.
End of flashback
(Y/N): "I left before the play ended."
Dr. Patience: "Hm, did you read about people going missing that night?"
(Y/N): "Not really, I was feeling angry about that so I dropped out of that college and decided to get a normal job which led to me working here."
Dr. Collingwood."Normally the Foundation is successful in stopping SCP-701."
(Y/N): "We didn't budget for advertisements and it was at a small liberal arts college."
Dr. Collingwood: "I see, we'll put down your experience in the records."
(Y/N): "Thanks doc, oh by the way Markiplier can you cover for me, I need to check on Amelia."
Markiplier: "Sure."
Sometime later, we see you giving a bowl of chicken soup to Amelia as she was coming down with the flu.
Amelia: *sneezes into her blanket*"Ugh, I need to get work done for SCP-701."
(Y/N): "No, no just relax, you've been working too hard and you need your rest, I made you some chicken noodle soup. It's my mother's recipe."
Amelia then tries a spoonful of it and she likes it.
Amelia: "This is delectable."
(Y/N): "My mother makes this stuff whenever me or Kendyl get sick, but my brother just rather be sick than eat something that has poison in it. Now get some rest, you need all of your strength."
Amelia: "Can you at least give me some reports on-"
Before Amelia finishes her thought she sneezes into her blanket.
(Y/N): "You need to get some rest."
Amelia: *coughs*"Alright, I should be lucky that I only have the flu and not-"*sneezes into her blanket*"-the anomalous diseases we have on records."
(Y/N): "You nursed me and I nurse you."
Amelia: *sniffs*"Thank you."
(Y/N): "No problem."
Sometime later, we see you arrived back at work and you are in the break room with Markiplier.
Markiplier: "So how's Dr. Buck?"
(Y/N): "I gave her some of my mother's recipe for chicken soup, she will be back on her feet by next week. So how's recording SCPs lately?"
Markiplier: "I have some good footage and terrible nightmares for sleeping at night."
(Y/N): "Well if you want you can hang out with the Tickle Monster, he's down the hall."
Markiplier: "Thanks man."
(Y/N): "No problem, 999 is always there to cheer people up."
Markiplier: "Yep."
(Y/N): "Yeah be glad you haven't met my brother."
Markiplier: "You know our co-workers have told me a lot about him, that guy is one mean bastard."
(Y/N): "That's just a much more tamer way to describe him."
We then see a portal open and you see Hobie come out of it.
Hobie: "Hey got a minute?"
(Y/N): "Uh sure."
Sometime later, we see a portal open into the headquarters of the Spider-Society and you see that there's only 15 Spider-People left in the Spider-Society.
(Y/N): "Woah....I thought there would be more of them."
Hobie: "There were, until your brother happened, after our battle with him. Not only did these Spider-People quit the society, but also quit being Spider-Man all together. What you're looking at is the Spider-Society on its last legs."
(Y/N): "I thought you never liked this place."
Hobie: "I don't, but that doesn't mean I care about the people in it."
(Y/N): "What happened to Spider-Man 2099?"
Hobie: "He quit as well."
(Y/N): "It was that bad."
Hobie: "Yep, betrayed by the people they cared about, the people we hurt without realizing it, and people we tried to help, it was too much for everyone."
You then follow Hobie to the main computer room where you see Jessica Drew sitting on a chair watching the footage of the Spider-Society's battle against Gary.
(Y/N): "Woah, what happened to her."
Hobie: "She tried to keep the place up and running, but the more she tried the more Spider-People she lost, so she stopped trying."
(Y/N): "So just believing in the lie my brother made, destroyed the Spider-Society and the careers of multiple Spider-People."
Hobie: "Lies can be so hurtful that they can punch harder than an honest truth."
(Y/N): "Is there a way I can help?"
Hobie: "Well as long as they believe in your brother's lies, Spider-Men, Women, or any other spider across the multiverse are good as gone."
(Y/N): "I got an idea."
You then head to Jessica Drew as she notices you.
Jessica D: "What do you want?"
(Y/N): "I came here to help, is there a way to talk to the Spider-People of the multiverse?"
Jessica D: "Well they still got their watches on themselves."
(Y/N): "I want to give them a message."
Meanwhile with Miguel, we see him at his home sitting on his chair watching Nueva York until he gets a message on his watch. We see multiple Spider-People get the same message from you and they play the message.
(Y/N): *over coms*"Hello everyone, if you're hearing this then I want to give you guys a helping hand. Hobie showed me the state that the Spider-Society is in because of my brother Gary and I don't blame you. But you are heroes, sure you may not be able to save everyone but you do your best to do so anyways and that's what matters. If you believe in my brother's lies you are letting him win, he always destroy people's lives by messing with their heads believe me he destroyed the spirits of both the cheerleading team and football team back in highschool because our mascot is a monster and they all committed suicide in the school because they believed in his lies. Stop believing in his lies and start believing what you choose to believe. Think about it."
As soon as the coms went off we see every Spider-Man across the multiverse regain their confidence and they get their suits back on. And we see Miguel grab his suit and he dawns the mantle of Spider-Man 2099 once again.
Back to you.
Hobie: "Well said."
(Y/N): "Thanks, well I better head back to work, I'm assigned to another SCP. Something about a cave that leads to another world."
You then teleport yourself back to your home dimension as Jessica Drew smiles with hope back into her heart.
