Annabeth Chase and the Fountain of Youth
I hope I don't get killed on the way. Annabeth thought as she raced around the corner. She was going over to Percy's apartment for dinner with Percy, his mom Sally and Percy's stepfather Paul. It was to celebrate the end of the war with Gaea. Of course, Leo was still missing, he had sacrificed himself in the battle against Gaea. He had a potion to bring him back to life, but no one knew where he was. Annabeth was a demigod daughter of Athena, and she lived at Camp-Half -Blood in long island. As Annabeth descended into the subway station, she thought she saw something glowing.. Percy was her best friend and boyfriend, well, he was like a part of her now, they had been through Tartarus together because Percy would rather fall down with her then be apart again.
Annabeth reached into her pocket and pulled out her metrocard. She saw the glowing thing again but thought, it's just my imagination, I am exhausted. She swiped her metrocard and went into the stop. She thought about Leo as she waited for the train. Just like when Percy disappeared, (as part of Hera's plan to introduce Camp Jupiter and Camp Half-Blood) Annabeth took charge of the search. She had been working very hard the last few days, and Percy had invited her over so she could have a break. Annabeth was excited, because she hadn't seen Sally or Paul in a while.
The train approached the station, and she stepped forward. The doors opened, and Annabeth stepped on. She saw a woman with a light green dress on, with lace around the waist. She smiled at Annabeth before pulling out an untitled book. Annabeth recognized her, but couldn't place her. Annabeth decided it was just because she was tired and looked at how many stops there were to Percy's apartment. It would be a good few stops, so Annabeth pulled out her book about architecture. She had read it a thousand times though, so she was putting back in her tiny backpack soon. She was still so many stops away and she was so tired. Soon she was drifting into sleep.
Annabeth saw light. She felt happy, and tasted those blue macaroons she had with Percy in Central Park after the battle of New York. Ambrosia! She thought, but she hadn't eaten any. "Annabeth Chase" a soft, female, voice. A woman appeared, the woman from the train, the train, Annabeth realized she was in the woods. Large trees with large, floppy, leaves were around her and in front of her was a fountain pouring nectar, the drink of the gods, and healing potion of demigods. The woman who appeared was wearing a long green dress like the one she had been wearing before, but more like the ancient robe of the gods. "I am Hebe, the goddess of youth, and cupbearer of the gods." Annabeth stared with shock, "why did you bring me here?"
"I need your help Annabeth Chase" she said, sitting on the ledge of the fountain. Annabeth cautiously stepped forward, "you need me to go on a quest?" she asked, slowly. " A very small one," Hebe replied walking over to Annabeth. "A monster named Lamia has stolen my fountain of youth." "Your symbol of power!" Annabeth realized. "Yes, I need you to retrieve it before the other Olympians find out." Hebe said. Olympians were proud, and wouldn't want other gods and goddesses to find out their symbols of power had been stolen. "What about Percy?" Annabeth asked, remembering what happened the last time one of them had gone missing. "I'm sure he'll figure it out, now go, use this orb once you have defeated Lamina." She said, handing Annabeth a glowing orb that looked somehow familiar, and Annabeth saw light, blinding light.
...
Annabeth was standing in central park, That's weird, She thought. In the news it said central park was closed off because of a deadly snake loose in it. The she remembered, the Lamia was a snake monster who was cursed by Hera to become a monster. She gave all monsters the ability to smell demigods in retaliation. Well, I'm off to look for the fountain of youth! she thought and started walking around the deserted park.
After a few minutes, Annabeth heard running water, she ran to it and saw a fountain. The orb in her bag started to get hot. She ran over to the fountain, but too late she remembered the monster. She cursed in ancient Greek, she didn't have a weapon. She heard a hiss and whipped around, she saw a woman, well on the top half she was a woman with an "I Love NY" T-shirt, but a snake at the bottom. he had crocodile-like teeth and claws for fingernails. "A demigod" she hissed slowly slithering to Annabeth. "I've killed many of your kind, and I'd do it again" she hissed as she started to circle Annabeth. "You're the reason monsters can smell demigods" Annabeth said, trying to think of a plan. "Yes, and know I will kill you!" She started to circle in on Annabeth. "Oh no, well I guess I won't tell you, then" Annabeth said, an idea forming. "Tell me what" Lamia demanded, stopping. "Oh, It's just with how popular you've become, would think you might rethink killing me." She said casually, hoping her plan would work. "I'm popular? Really" Lamia said perking up. "Well, yeah! At camp-half-blood we have a shrine to you, and we do all these um, parties yeah we have parties in your honor. You know, the usual worshipping stuff." Annabeth said, hoping Lamia would believe her. "Oh wow really? Oh wait, why am I not invited" She said, sounding suspicious. "Uhh, the gods have forbidden it, yes they say you can never be let in," Annabeth said, hoping Zeus wouldn't incinerate her. Lamia circled Annabeth and scowled, "they never liked me! Well Zeus did, before I was a monster, but the other ones, no, especially Hera." Annabeth was starting to remember a myth, "what about Poseidon, your father?" she asked, trying to buy time. "Oh that man, he disowned me after Hera turned me into a monster. I was the victim, though, Hera killed my children as I watched, helpless!" That feeling was coming back again, just like when Annabeth had faced Arachne. Lamia was punished for having an affair with Zeus, but being turned into a monster and having her children killed in front of her? That was cruel, she started to feel bad for Lamia, just like she had Arachne before Tartarus...
"I guess you're wondering why such a loved being like me would steal the fountain of youth, right?" Lamia said, drawing Annabeth out of her memories. "Yes, your....gracefulness," Annabeth said, hoping that was a good title for a snake woman. " Well the fountain of youth turns back time, but I am immortal, I want to use it to become the beautiful woman I once was, when the lord of the sky himself was one of my suitors!" Lamia said, spreading her arms with grandeur. "Oh, yes my lady, you are so smart" Annabeth said reaching for the orb in her bag, she pulled it out and realized it was an Archimedes sphere, like the type Leo had found in Rome, gods, Leo. She realized it also was infused with the mist and she thought about the knife Luke had given to her when they were just homeless demigods and Annabeth was only seven. Suddenly, an exact replica of her dagger shot out of the sphere and Annabeth ran at a shocked Lamia who yelled, "you tricked me!" Annabeth cut Lamia's arm and said, "maybe you should rethink killing demigods." Lamia scratched Annabeth's arm with her nail-talon-claws and Annabeth yelped in pain. Lamia was about to finish her off but Annabeth rolled to the side and cut Lamia's head off. She took out a piece of ambrosia and ate it, again it tasted like blue macaroons. She threw the Archimedes sphere at the fountain and suddenly she was back on the train, two stops away from Percy's apartment. Annabeth got off the train at Percy's stop and ran all the way to his building. He was outside and ran over to her once she turned the corner. "Ran into a god?" He asked, hugging her. "You have no idea," she replied as she and Percy walked inside, putting the war and sadness behind them.
