Ballad of Annabel

Ballad of Annabel

©2018, Olan L. Smith

The golden vault lives by the sea,

Where you did dwell, 'tis ever lost

Upon the bitter breeze in thee,

My Annabel upon the cross.

The gods so claims our brittle love

Is now and ever gone, so rise

The tomb and kiss the dove

And fill this empty compromise.

Appreciate a sea explored,

Of gorgeous Annabel's delight,

The ocean roared,

A voice whose songs excite.

The golden vault lives by the sea,

Where you did dwell, 'tis ever lost

Upon the bitter breeze in thee.

My Annabel upon the cross

Forever quite composed,

A poet wants your bosom safe

Your gifts of love here deposed,

In you my hope is vouchsafe.

In lands of nevermore―

Upon a time of old, where we

Will ride the waves of once before,

Your sweet bouquet for me.

The golden vault lives by the sea,

Where you did dwell, 'tis ever lost

Upon the bitter breeze in thee

My Annabel upon the cross.
