A Slight Mist

A Slight Mist

A slight mist is in his face, upon the shore where she does lie,

Within her crypt, his lone solace―his mistress's love gone-by.

Her golden vault lives by the sea;

The bitter breeze grips his lung to force a plea.

Where do you dwell Annabel forever lost?

Do you dwell beside him? Annabel upon the cross.

She lived by the sea in a land once before, but nevermore,

Her vault is heavy and waves do lap upon the shore,

He begs and pleads, pardon her sins come the rising sun,

A pardon comes in mornings light, it has begun.

The poet Poe sings to her a hymn that he will pen.

He asks, lay all her sins everywhere his heart has been.

(A.N. This is an example of a six couplet poem where two lines rhyme for a total of twelve lines. Each couplet consists of a complete thought, so there is no use of enjambment between couplets.)
