Chapter 8: He Found Me

Unedited
I quickly get up.

I tip-toe towards the door so I don't make a lot of noise, especially with these creeky wooden tiles. I turn the door down and slightly open door to hear what's happening.

Nothing. Just nothing.

I open the door wider and slowly walk out. I want to stay alert at all times--anything could happen at anytime.

As I walk out I notice right away that nobody is here. Not David, not Carla, no one.

"Carla, are you here? Please come out." I'm not going to call for David.

"Is anybody here?" I whisper.

I make my way to the kitchen after I hear someone taking a dish off of the disk rack.

"Anna" It's the voice.

I gasp. I make a full turn to discover what---who is behind me, but no one's there.

"Surprised that I'm here, at you secret hideout."

I hear the same soft voice again. But why is he here?

"What do you want?" I scream, but I know he can sense the fear.

"Anna. Come here. Come here to me." The voice says softly.

Right when I hear that I run to the kitchen and grab the sharpest knife I can find. I don't want him to know I'm scared. Fear is my greatest weakness and if he discovers that, maybe he'll use it to hurt me.

I have to protect myself, from everyone and everything.

I tuck the knife in my right sock that is pulled up above many ankles. I start to walk out quickly. Maybe this time I'll be able to see what I couldn't see the first time.

"Anna. Don't be scared." The voice says softly.

"Why would I be? Who are you and what do you want---from me?" I ask in a harsh tone.

"I am your friend and I'm here to give you what's yours, dear." The voice speaks slowly.

At a sudden moment I see a yellowish glow coming from the window. It stops  as soon as it gets to the nearest table, the nearest table to me. Then, it circles around about three times and exits through the same window.

The white shimmery glow left the same box that I saw in my dreams. The purple box that the shadow man said is mine.

I start walking close to the box, and shift my eyes to see if someone's around. My gaze turns towards the wall that's beside the window in which the glow came in from. Although I can't see the body of the voice that's talking to me, I can see its shadow standing still. The shadow of that voice.

This could only mean that the shadow man is here, standing in the opposite direction of the wall. He is real, I felt him, his touch and his glow before. He is just invisible.

On the wall I can see that the shadow mans hands are resting on the table and moving his fingers like he is waiting----or expecting something to happen. I don't completely turn my head, but slightly move my eyes to see if there is someone facing the wall.

No one's there.

But I hear his fingernails hitting the table that is in front of the wall, as he taps them towards the surface. His invisible self is behind the table.

"Anna, go get your box real quick okay. Come on now. I'm waiting." The voice says in a rush. I can feel him glaring at me.

I start walking towards the box again. I mean if it's mine why shouldn't I just take it. What's in it for him anyway.

As I get close to the box I extend my arms ready to take the box in my hold, when all of the sudden there's another distraction.

Wind gusts start to blow my way---but I'm inside. How can this be? I block my face with my hands and turn my face to see what's going on.

But the wall that's showing me.his shadow and mine---is not showing anything that's happening to me. My shadow isn't showing my hair blowing back or my face turning when turn it.

The wind gusts stop.

I move my hands away from my face and fix my hair so it doesn't come on my face.

"Anna." The whispers back.

"Don't take that box. It'll only bring the dark side closer." The whisper tickles my ear as it speaks.

"But why should I believe you? Who are you. Why is my shadow so still." I cry.

"Because I can't have him know that I'm here, with you. Just trust me." The whispers words touch my heart--like they mean something.

"B-but..." I hesitate to say another word to the whisper.

"Just use the knife." His words echo in my ear.

My head starting to get dissy, all I hear is my head is use the knife.

Before I know it I take the knife out of my sock and throw it straight above the table. It gets stuck in mid-air.

I gasp at what I did and hear the same twinkling sound I did when the glow came in. The glow flew in, circled around the box and carried it out with itself. The box is gone.

Good.
The glow almost had me forget the knife that I threw. It struck the invisible shadow man right in the middle of his body. I can see blood dripping from the knife but there is still no body to be seen.

I run to the knife and yank it out. Just then I hear a loud thump. He fell.

I start to move my foot around the table he was standing behind to see where he fell. I try to pick him up. At the moment I felt his head if invisible body to becoming real. It feels like the sun is in front of me because his body is shining. Strands of light are hitting inches and inches of this room. His body is being revealed.

When body starts to appear I get the feeling that he's dead. He isn't moving not is his eyes open.

Worst of all, his face is deformed. His lips stretch out to where his eyes should be and his eyes stretch out to where his check are. His nose looks like it's been pressed in completely and he has gills as cheeks. His forehead doesn't completely have skin, the middle of his forehead feels like leather.

But what's important is that I killed him. I killed him because the whisper told me too.

"There! You happy now. I used the knife." I scream with tears streaming down my eyes.

"Good job." He whispers quietly.

"Good job! That's all you have to say? What do I do now huh? Carla and David are gone and he's dead and you're a whisper, s-so what do I do? Where do I go? Huh? Tell me!" I scream while trying to act like I'm not crying. But no matter how many tears I wipe, I can't hide the pain.

"You have to do one thing". He says calmly.

"What? You're going to brain wash me and make me do something else for you". I yell without thinking about what I'm saying.

"Follow the shine." His words struck my heart. He knows about the shine too?

"The shine that came in from the window and carried the box out. You need to follow that." He smirks after making his statement.

"And how do you expect me to do that?" I glare at the wall hoping the whisper is coming from there. I mean I can't see the whisper so how do I know what direction to face when talking.

"It left a trail for you. Now go before it's too late." The whisper sounds like it was coming from why now. Not right beside me. I guess he's gone now.

It left a trail for me? What will I do--how can I. The shine left into the human world, not out from the portal.

I won't be able to face humans.

"Anna." The whispers back.

"I'm waiting. We have to follow the shine. Come on." He's coming with me. A smile replace the frown I had.

"Kay, let me grab my bag." I say while tuning around to the direction of my room.

"You don't need it." He quietly whispers. Right after he speaks the door of our cottage flies right open. Woah. He did that. I suddenly feel myself being pushed outside of the cottage. This is going to be a tough adventure. Before the whisper could close the door I quickly turned around to get a last view of everything.

The shadow mans body, was gone.
