Zinx - The Band... When a school band is allowed free use of A.R. Rahman's state-of-the-art studio to cut an album, it has to be out of the ordinary. Extended this rare privilege after it topped the table of bands at 'Oohlalala' (a band hunt on Sun TV with A.R. Rahman as judge), Zinx does not need any other calling card.

The band was formed by students of Padma Seshadhri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) in 2007, the fledgling band was half filled with members who had to take their Class XII board exams. With the self-imposed exile behind them, the young musicians are now in circulation.

Their comeback concert, 'Renaizzance — The Musical Evolution of Carfusion' at the Alliance Française De Madras on October 3 at 7 p.m., promises to be a rich concoction of jazz, funk and Indian classical music. 'Carfusion' stands for Carnatic fusion.

Even in the days when they shone in inter-school culturals as a PSBB band, these music makers were noticed for their versatility. Besides A.R. Rahman, musicians Sivamani, Kumaresh, Vasundhara Das, Paul Jacob and John Anthony have showered encomiums on them.

One of the three founding members of the band, keyboardist Anirudh has just entered college but is already a professional. Having worked with many music composers and scored music for many jingles, he has a wide repertoire.

In 'Ooh la la la', Anirudh was adjudged 'Best keyboardist' and gifted a special keyboard by A. R. Rahman.

Krishna Kishor:

Another founder, Kishor has gone beyond mridangam, which his father K.V. Prasad, a mridangist, helped him master.He is equally adept at playing the drums, rhythm pads, thavil and other percussion instruments. A first year college student, he works a rhythm programmer with many leading composers.

Vivek Siva:

The other founder, Vivek, in Class XII at PSBB, was asked by A.R. Rahman to play the mandolin for compositions in "Azhagiya Tamil Magan". Through fret technique, Vivek has taught himself how to play the bass guitar.

Leon, a pianist and a rapper, has sung many a time for Rahman.Leon James became interested in music as a result of his father Noel James's involvement in the industry as 's manager, and began piano lessons aged three

Ananth, a violinist who can sail across fusion, jazz and blues with ease, has performed in the U.S., Canada, South Africa and many other countries.

Adithya, a tabla player, has accompanied artistes of the calibre of Neil Mukherjee and Anil Srinivasan. He is a trained pianist and drummer too.

Ravishankar Gopalakrishnan:

Ravishankar, who can play the ghatam, mridangam, drums, rhythm pads and thavil, has been regularly accompanying leading musicians on concert tours.

Ujjayinee:

Ujjayinee, who is one of the leading female singer of the band....

Bhargavi:

Bhargavi, another leading female singer of the band...
