Post-Prolouge - Whisper
Six Years Earlier...
It was a peaceful, calm night. The scars of the war that had happened all those years ago seemed to disappear. One of the moons was full tonight, one was half full, and the other one was nearly engulfed in total blackness. The crisp summer breeze blew through the trees, creating a calm melody. No dragons were in sight, and it seemed that nature was the only sound in the night.
But in Jade Mountain, nobody was asleep. Well, there was barely anyone in the first place. Only the Dragonets of Destiny, Riptide, Deathbringer, Peril, Fatespeaker, and the Jade Winglet. The original Jade Winglet, from the first year. Well, except for Carnelian, since she... well... died when Sora bombed the history classroom that year. And Umber, who was busy doing things for Queen Moorhen.
Everyone was laughing and having a good time, digging into their food. Clay was eating the fastest, which didn't surprise anyone.
Peril smiled and poked him. "Hey, slow down. We're in no rush."
Clay looked over at her, food stuffed in his mouth. He quickly swallowed. "Sorry, it's just REALLY good, y'know? I love cows. I'm glad they exist."
Peril nodded. "I'm glad they do too." She picked up one of her smaller pieces of prey, which immediately caught on fire as she did so. Clay put his talons over it, immediately putting out the flames. He smiled at her, and she giggled.
"You goof." She said, immediately devouring the animal afterwards.
Glory smiled as she watched everyone, calmly eating her fruit that was in front of her.
Deathbringer watched her intently, twitching his wings. Glory looked up at him, swallowing her food.
"Can I help you?"
Deathbringer smirked. "Actually, yes you can." He quickly wrapped his wing around her and pulled her close, making her squeal out of surprise. He then began nuzzling her, making her squeak even more.
"Deathbringer!" She laughed.
"Aww!" Sunny squealed.
"Are they being lovey dovey again?" Starflight asked.
"Yep!" Fatespeaker chirped in reply.
"Get a room you two!" Tsunami squawked.
"Oh c'mon, Tsunami," Riptide said. "We do that too."
"We're not that mushy in public!" Tsunami said.
Riptide shifted himself, flicking his tail. "Says the one who 'accidentally' flirted with me before she even knew my name."
Tsunami's face immediately turned a bright red. She flared her gills and glared over at Riptide. "You know damn well I didn't know how to speak Aquatic back then! I didn't even know Aquatic EXISTED!"
The other dragons laughed.
"I'm just messing with you..." Riptide said softly, brushing his wing against her's.
Yes, everyone was having a good time. Talking, laughing... Except for one.
Moonwatcher was looking down the entire time, thinking to herself. She had her ears pricked, in case her name was called, but besides that she kept to herself. Nobody noticed, though, since they were all talking to everyone else.
Visions flashed through her head, and she couldn't explain them at all. They were stronger than any other visions she's had before, which scared her a lot. If they were this strong... They had to be important...
Sometimes, she'd hear even voices that'd say things, most of the time it was:
Beware him, beware him.
The Animus of the Red Sky.
He was a Skywing, at least that's what Moon thought, anyway. Every time she'd ask herself who he was, a Skywing with pure red scales and silver eyes would appear in her head. Whether he was smiling, laughing, screaming, crying, covered in blood, that's who always appeared.
Beware him, beware him.
The Animus of the Red Sky.
Moon immediately perked up when she heard talons tapping on a wine glass. Everyone looked over at Tsunami, who had a big grin on her face. She lifted up her glass.
"I'd like to make a toast," she said. "to another successful year at Jade Mountain Academy! And the fact that my dear friend, Glory, despite her queenly duties, was able to make it here tonight." She wrapped her wing around the Rainwing and smiled.
"Aww!" Everyone said as Glory's face lit up. Her scales shifted to a bright pink.
"Oh shut up!" Glory said, smacking her friend on the shoulder. "Stop being a sap! That's not like you at all, Tsunami."
The Seawing chuckled. "Seeing the look on your face is honestly pretty priceless, though."
The Rainwing Queen rolled her eyes. "Classic Tsunami... Let's get on with the toast, shall we?" She lifted her glass. "To success and bright futures!"
"To success and bright futures!" Everyone repeated, clinking their glasses together. Peril, however, had a stone chalice unlike everyone else. A few giggled as it loudly clanked against the other glasses.
Moon had toasted, but yet in her head, she couldn't see any bright futures.
Beware him, beware him.
The Animus of the Red Sky.
"So, Clay, I've been meaning to ask, since I heard you visited your sibs the other day," Qibli said. "How is Sora?"
Clay perked up. "Sora? She's doing fine. Better than she was, anyway. Luckily her punishment back at the Mud Kingdom wasn't that bad. Then again, Reed, Pheasant, and Umber did stand up for her. But Queen Moorhen, from what they've told me about her, probably wouldn't of given out that much harsher of a punishment anyway."
"Well, that's good," Turtle said with a light smile. "Did she ever get over... The incident?..."
Clay sighed, shifting himself. "I don't think she'll ever get over Crane. Sora still hates Icicle, but at least she probably won't try to kill her now."
"The proper term is assassinate," Starflight said. "Since she is a higher official."
"Oh my gosh–does it honestly matter?" Tsunami snapped. "Assassination means kill. Yes it means to kill a higher power, but it still means kill."
Starflight shifted himself. "I'm just saying..."
"True," Glory said. "At least he didn't go into one of his lectures."
Clay and Tsunami both groaned at the same time, causing Starflight to jolt up.
"Hey!" He said.
"Oh, come on guys," Sunny said. "Starflight's lectures aren't that bad!"
"I agree!" Fatespeaker chimed in, wrapping her wing around him. "His lectures are extremely interesting! I love them a lot!"
Maybe that's because you're completely gaga for him. Moon heard Tsunami's mind say as she unshielded everyone's thoughts for a second.
Should we tell them now? Maybe we should... Glory's mind said, which immediately made Moon perk up and look over at her. She quickly turned the thoughts back into little raindrops with her mind, silencing them almost completely.
Glory shifted herself, then looked up at Deathbringer, who was right beside her. She lightly brushed her wings against his. He immediately perked up and looked over at her. She whispered to him, and he twitched his wings as he whispered back. Glory looked back over at everyone else.
"AHEM," Glory said, immediately making everyone look over to her. She shifted herself again. "Deathbringer and I... have an announcement."
"Oh?" Tsunami said. "Well, spit it out."
"Such patience, Tsunami. So generous of you," Glory said. "Well... Here it is..." She unhooked the flap of the sack she was carrying, gently pulling it behind the back of the bag. She slowly, carefully, began digging into it. The Rainwing Queen then pulled out a smooth, black and purple egg, lifting it high for everyone to see.
Sunny gasped, quickly putting her talons over her mouth. "Glory..." She said. "Is that?..."
Glory smiled and nodded. "Yes," she said. "Deathbringer and I are having a dragonet."
Excitement and shock buzzed through the room, Kinkajou and the other Dragonets of Destiny got closer to them.
"I'm going to be an uncle?!" Clay gasped. "Three moons! I'll–... I'll love them dearly! I'll teach them how to hunt! I'll show them the prettiest parts of Pyrrhia! I'll–!"
"Oh my gosh! Imagine what they will look like!" Sunny squealed.
"You have an egg? Three moons, Glory. I never thought I'd ever see you become a mother." Tsunami said.
"This is incredible!" Starflight said. "This... This is going to be the first hybrid in the Rainwing royal line! Glory! Your dragonet is going to make history!" He then began to frown, lifting his talons to his face and tracing the scars around his eyes. "If only I could see them..."
All Kinkajou did was squeal "My queen is having a dragonet! My queen is having a dragonet! My queen is having a dragonet!"
Glory smiled down at her. "Would you... Like to touch it?"
Kinkajou gasped loudly, clapping her talons over her mouth. "I...I can?..." Glory smiled and nodded.
Kinkajou slowly reached out for the delicate egg, the gently ran two talons down it. She giggled and squealed, her scales shifting an even brighter yellow and pink than they were before.
Winter groaned, squinting his eyes. "Can you not?"
Moon glared over at him, and he shifted himself.
"I'm just saying!" he whispered. "It hurts my eyes!"
Kinkajou immediately toned down the brightness a bit, looking back at Winter. "Sorry!" She said. "I'm just so excited!"
"You know," Glory said. "She's not the only one allowed to touch it."
Everyone gasped and immediately dashed over to the egg, dying to feel it. Except for Peril, though, who simply just smiled gently and watched from the sidelines. When it was Moon's turn, she almost caressed the egg in a way.
More visions flashed through her head.
He killing them: the dragonet's corpse pathetically dangling in his claws.
Then it flashed to him protecting them from a great darkness that Moon couldn't make out.
Beware him, beware him.
The Animus of the Red Sky.
After she was done, she quickly padded away, sitting back down and looking at the ground again.
Qibli had concern on his face. Yes, Moon was quiet, but never this quiet. Something was up. He walked over to her, stopping once he was right behind her. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it. Then he spat it out.
"Moon? Are you okay? You're acting... Pretty quiet..."
Moon looked up at him, twitching her wings. "I'm... I'm fine..."
"You have a lot on your mind, don't you?" Kinkajou's voice chimed in out of nowhere, making both dragons perk up and look at her.
Everyone was looking at them now.
"I know when you get that look, you know."
"I..." Moon said, swallowing. "I do have a lot on my mind, yes. It's just visions, though. I shouldn't be so worried about it."
"What are you seeing in them?" Starflight asked.
"It's..." He flashed through her head again. "It's nothing." Moon replied, standing up. "It's not important now. Let's just enjoy the party right now!" She began walking back over to everyone. "This may be the last time we get to see each other in awhi–" she then stopped, freezing in place, silver eyes wide.
"Moon?..." Qibli asked.
No response.
Without warning, the small Nightwing collapsed to the ground, gasping for air and breathing heavily.
"MOON!"
Everyone dashed over to her in a wave of panic.
"What's wrong with her?"
"I-I don't know!"
"Beware him, beware him."
Moon started.
"Hatched with moon filled eyes.
Beware him, beware him.
The Animus of the Red Sky.
Hatched in peace, dies in war.
He'll come to take it all.
The world, the queens.
But he is not who he seems.
He'll strike the Sky, then the Rain.
They will all die in agonized pain.
With an army of red,
He'll come to take it all.
But blood does not stop blood.
Love, Friendship, Forgiveness.
If these gifts are found,
the world will be turned around.
Beware him, beware him.
Claws of blood and silver eyes.
Beware him, beware him.
He'll forever change the history of Sky."
As she choked out the last words, her breathing began to somewhat slow down. She looked up at everyone else, and they all stared down at her with wide eyes.
"What was that?" Tsunami said.
"It..." Kinkajou swallowed. "It was a prophecy."
Moon heard everyone's thoughts racing at once.
A prophecy?
ANOTHER one? Oh that's just perfect.
Is she okay? Should we get her a doctor?
Animus of the Red Sky? The hell is that suppose to mean?
It's happening again...
Love... Friendship... Forgiveness...
Qibli grabbed Moon's talons, helping her up and quickly wrapping his warm wing around her. "What in three moons did that mean? Do you know?"
Moon shook her head. "I... I don't..."
"Perhaps..." Starflight said. "We should write that down..."
He began walking out of the room, with many of the other dragons following him.
Winter looked over at Moon, a defensive look on his face. "Whoever this 'Animus of the Red Sky' is, I'll make sure he gets dealt with." He growled.
"We'll stop him," Qibli said. "Just like we stopped Darkstalker."
"I wish I could be reassured by that..." Moon said.
"Don't worry," Kinkajou said. "Like Qibli said, we'll stop whoever this is. I'll make sure of it!"
"But..." Moon said.
"But what?" Winter said.
Moon twitched her wings. "I have a feeling this won't happen for years to come, and it'll happen when we least expect it." She said. "And we are not the ones who stop it, either, but instead three dragons. I don't know who they are or why they're destined to stop him, but I feel it... I know it..."
Turtle twitched his wings. "Well, whoever those three are, I wish them luck." He said. "We animus dragons aren't easy to defeat..."
