Hawaiian Pool Party (Rin Okumura)

Rin Okumura from Blue Exorcist

~~~
It was another unbearably hot, sticky, and humid summer day, and you wanted nothing more than to take a month long vacation to somewhere frigid cold, like Siberia or something.
Drumming your dry hands on your wooden desk, you let out a frustrated groan. The overflowing pile (which, in reality, was very small) of homework that needed to be done lay in the corner of the wooden piece of furniture, and the rest of the desk was littered with two bottles of water, several empty plastic tubes of Otterpops, your Mac laptop, pencil shavings, and numerous pens, pencils, and other junk.
You had given up on doing your homework a while ago, after concluding that is was way too hot to be doing work, no less even thinking. You felt something vibrate in your pocket, so you reached down and pulled out your phone. Rin had texted you.
'hey, can u come over? Im super bored ughhh'
You inwardly cheered, smiling slightly to yourself. 'Oh my god, yes, finally something to relieve my boredom!'
You quickly texted back, 'Hell yea. Im bored out of my mind & want to go chill at your place. Be right over,' before slipping it back into one of the back pockets of your jean shorts.
Pushing your chair back, you stood up and stretched before reaching down and grabbing the second water bottle, which was half filled with water. You unscrewed the bottle and brought it to your lips, tilting your head back slightly and taking a big gulp.
'Ahhh... Thats refreshing' you thought, putting it back down on the desk. Checking the mirror to make sure you looked good, you slipped on your favorite pair of slippers and set out on your adventure to Rin and Yukio's building.
You had always loved it there, and sometimes you would spend the night there, even a week. It didn't matter, since there was no one else there and you could practically pick whatever room you wanted to sleep in- with the exception of Rin and Yukio's.
Ten minutes later, you were standing in front of the nearly empty dorm. Clearing you throat, you suddenly yelled, "YO! RIN, OPEN UP!"
Several moments later, a window on the third floor opened up, and the blue-eyed demon's head popped out.
"Heyy girl," he joked, a goofy grin decorating his face. A popsicle was hanging from his left hand, and his other hand was raised up in the air, waving at you.
You grinned back at him, before pointing at the door, asking a silent question.
"You can go in, it's unlocked," he answered, without you even asking. You nodded, and opened the wooden door, before stepping into the familiar building for what seemed like the millionth time. Like you usually did, you ran up the flights of stairs until you reached Rin's floor, and shuffling through the hallway, you stopped at his door. You then proceeded in slamming open his door and tackle hugging the unsuspecting boy into his bed.
Most people would freak out if they saw the two of you like that, but you two were best friends, so it was perfectly normal for you to do that.
"This room is so hot!" you whined, as the two of you lay side by side on his messy bed. He was clad in a pair of swim trunks and a light t-shirt, while you were clad in jean shorts and a spaghetti strap tank top.
Rin laughed, "Trust me, I'd know; I've been in this room all day."
"Ha, you have a point. But still, I wish there was a way to cool off. There is no where to hide from this malicious heat! Say, Rin, do you have anything that could help us?" you inquired, turning your head to look at him.
He was silent for a moment before he turned to look at you as well, and grinned like he had just figured out the secrets of the universe. "I have a mini fan, the ones you can buy at the mall and stuff, in the basement!"
Cue facepalm.
"Rin, thats not going to solve anything, idiot."
"It's not?"
"...No."
The two of you fell into silence as you both wracked your brain for any ideas, until suddenly you shot up into a sitting position. "I've got it!"
Rin looked at you expectantly, waiting for you to go on.
"We should... go look around in your basement and look for crap that we can find a use for!"
The dark blue-haired boy's face lit up, and he shook his head in agreement. "Thats genius!"
You smirked in a teasing manner, "Of course it is. I came up with it~"
Rin merely rolled his eyes. "C'mon, let's go."
--
"Rin, there had sure as hell better not be spiders down here. There aren't any, right?"
"...."
You frantically looked around you, making sure none of the small little demonic creatures were crawling around you before looking at Rin. You hoped that he'd just laugh and reassure you there weren't, especially since he knew you were terrified of the crawling critters, but he just gave you a bad poker face.
You glared at him, giving him a 'you-have-got-to-be-kidding' look, before unconsciously scooting closer to the boy. Maybe he'd protect you...
...or you could use him as a human shield and throw him at them if the spiders tried to eat you alive.
As if he could read your mind, Rin reached out and gingerly grabbed one of your hands, before walking on like nothing happen. You smiled to yourself like a little schoolgirl before returning to your normal relaxed self. You were supposed to keep those feelings to yourself, and not let the teenage demon know about them.
After several minutes of walking hand-in-hand, you two reached the storage area that held all of Yukio and Rin's junk stuff.
"Alrighty, you can take that side, and I'll take this side," the blue-eyed teen announced, before pushing his way into all the miscellaneous items around him. You took in the piles of junk that lay in front of you, getting a major eye twitch, before sighing and following in suit. At least it was colder down there than it was upstairs.
--
This was ridiculous. You had been digging around for at least 20 minutes now, and had found absolutely nothing useful. You back hurt from bending down, and you had began to sweat almost as much as you had when you walked to the brothers' dorm building. Not to mention that you and Rin had barely spoke, since the two of you were so wrapped up in what you were doing.
Letting out an irritated groan, you threw yourself back onto a random pair of pillows, when your foot hit something semi-hard. Curious, you look down at your feet only to see something plastic. You reached down, pulling whatever it was out from underneath more junk. Confused, you stared at the item, trying to figure out what it was, when suddenly it hit you.
"An inflatable kiddie-pool!" you exclaimed aloud, your voice echoing in the average sized room. Your statement snapped Rin out of his trance, and once his eyes lay on the joy in your hands, nostalgia became written all over his face.
"Ah! Thats the pool that the old man got us when Yukio and I were younger!"
Suddenly your face lit up. "Rin... We can use this! Yes, a pool was exactly what I was thinking of! Come on, lets get out of here and back in the sun! You have a hose we can use to fill it up, right?"
Rin nodded, and the two of you made your way out of his basement and back to the living world.
--
You were now standing in front of the now filled kiddie-pool, feeling triumphant, holding a smoothie-filled glass in one hand and a sunscreen bottle in the other.
You had ran back to your house to put on your favorite bathing suit, grab anything you usually brought to the pool, and make the two of you smoothies.
"It's beautiful!" you cheered, handing Rin his smoothie and stepping into the pool. The water was cold, but not to the point where you didnt even want to go in. You plopped down into the water with a content sigh and the blue-eyed boy soon followed. There was a peaceful silence between the two of you, until you suddenly placed your glass on the ground, and gave Rin a look of determination.
"Rin... We need to have a party." The boy sitting across from you cocked his head to the side. "But not just any party. We need to have a Hawaiian pool party. One with sand, palm trees, music, tiki torches, and so on!"
Rin raised an eyebrow at you, before smiling. "(Name), we should so do that! It'll be awesome!"
You smiled back, "I know right!! Let's do this!"
The two of you climbed out of the inflatable pool, wrapping a towel around yourselves before you dug around in your bag and found a pen and notepad.
"Here. You'll be in charge of getting the palm trees and sand, and I'll get the music and tiki torches," you declared, as you scribbled it all down. Ripping off half of the the notepad, you handed it to Rin. He took it from you, and scanned over it before shaking his head 'no.'
"No?" you questioned, and Rin a surprised look.
"No. I want to do it all, so that it'll be a surprise! You just sit back and relax and I'll go take take of everything!" he reassured.
"Uh.. are you sure about that? I don't mind helping..."
He nodded vigorously, his tail reflecting his emotion by swaying back and forth quickly. "Yeah!" You sighed and bowed your head in acceptance.
After you both had dried off and put your normal clothes on, the teen gave you a toothy grin and saluted you.
"You can count on me!"
You giggled, giving him thumbs up as he set off to go get everything.
'I guess this is the perfect time to do that dumb homework.'
--
An hour and a half later, the two of you were once again standing in front of the small pool. Except this time, it looked a bit.. different.
Sand was scattered around the pool, but some had fell into the pool by mistake. It looked fine, but what you were more concerned about was what the hell was up with your precious "palm trees."
You see, they were.. special. They were bamboo shoots that were about the height of a tall lamp. It seemed fine (considering you couldn't really find palm trees in this area of Japan) until you saw the "leaves." Rin had drawn sloppy looking palm leaves, colored them and cut them out, taping them onto the top of the shoots.
You only raised an eyebrow at the teen before moving on. Next, you inspected the tiki torches, and much to your delight, they were actual, authentic ones.
Music was up next, considering it was already playing. It didn't take long for you to locate the stereo, which was resting on a table beside the pool. Studying the table, it was one of those things that you see at restaurants, bars, or just any where with food and drinks in Hawaii, that are put outside of the buildings. ((Author Note: Pfftt, horrible attempt of explaining is horrible.)) There were two seats that were placed around it.
Finally, your gaze rested on Rin. He sheepishly smiled, and scratched the back of his neck. A light blush also coated his cheeks. He felt embarrassed about acting so bashful, but you on the other hand you found it completely adorable.
"Uhh.. so.. what do you think?"
"I love it." You gave him a warm smile before leaning in and give him a peck on the lips.
Extended Ending:
"The great, rich, head master is here~" announced a familiar voice. It was already dark, but Rin and you had lit the tiki torches, and the water was pretty warm from sitting in the sun for so long so you weren't cold. Well, that and Rin had an arm wrapped around you, and you were leaning against his chest.
Turning to look up, your mouth dropped in shock, and you got a major eye twitch.
Mephisto was standing a little bit away from the pool, wearing red swim trunks with pink hearts, and had a floatie hanging on his shoulder.
Recovering from your shock, you puckered your lips in annoyance.
"No. You're not invited, go away."
" D: But (Name)~!"
"I said NO."
"Why must you be so mean to me!?"
"Because you scare me!"
