Gajeel Pt. 1
After the fall of my guild, Raven Tail, I was left on my own with nowhere to go. I was lucky enough to have enough coin to feed myself but that ran out a few days ago. I needed work or at least a place to rest for a night. Without realizing it, I found myself in Magnolia. I was roaming around trying to find a place where I could find work. Walking through the streets I found myself at a guild. Fairy Tail, the same one that defeated my old guild. Though I didn't know what they were doing, nor did I want anything to do with bringing Fairy Tail down. I honestly had no reason to hate or want to hate Fairy Tail so I was an outcast in the Dark Guild. I guess that I watched the guild for too long, I caught some unwanted attention. From the shadows, eyes were watching me. I sighed before turning to leave, knowing full well that they would never accept someone like me. Before I knew it, something hit the back of my head. I groaned while rubbing my head, seeing a can on the ground. A small group of people started to gather around me, why were they angry at me?
"You dare show your face here, you filthy Raven?!"
"Why are you here? Gonna hurt our wizards some more?!"
So that's what's going on. They're blaming me for my old guild members' actions in the games. I get it. I was disgusted with myself for their actions. So I let them say what they wanted. I deserved it for being part of a nasty guild. They continued shouting and throwing things at me. I just started walking towards the edge of town and I guess that when I took a step, they thought I was gonna attack them. So I got hit with something hard, falling to the ground, and felt the blood fall from the back of my head. My vision got blurry and my body went numb. My ears were ringing as I could still hear shouting and seeing people running towards me. My eyes closed and I lost consciousness.
My mind was drifting through many memories I had of my life. One stood out, as the one that changed my life for the worse. The fire that burned my home and slaughtered my family. The Magic Council ordered the deaths of my family because of their magics. A forbidden and lost magic called Earth Shaper Magic. They were able to change the format of the landscape with a flick of their fingers. It was powerful and the council was scared of them because of it. They wouldn't do down without a fight so they killed them. I was lucky, my parents never let anyone know about me because of that, they didn't know I existed. That saved me but also condemned me to a life of being alone and suffering in the dark. I could feel the brightness of the lights made my eyes hurt. Slowly opening them to find I was in an infirmary. The bed was comfortable and warm, I sighed as my body was very relaxed.
"Good, you're awake," an older woman was to my left, she smelled of medicine. She must have been the one who helped me. "All of your injuries are serious so don't push yourself."
"I give you thanks but please don't waste anything else on me. I'm not worth it."
"Sorry but everyone is worth having good health. And from what Porlyusica has told me, your injuries are not something we can overlook."
A small man walked in, I immediately recognized him as Master Mararov of Fairy Tail which means I was in their guild. I needed to get out before I gave them any reason to take revenge on me for my guild's actions at the games. I went to get up but only got as far as to sit up before the pain in my chest spiked.
"Like I said, don't move too much," she glared at me and it was enough for me to get nervous.
"Please don't overwork yourself, that hit you took to your head was bleeding a lot when Erza came to your aid," That was Mirajane aka the She-Devil, though in this form she seemed very weak. I know it was definitely a cover, she was very dangerous. I know full well I wouldn't be able to fight against her or Master Mararov.
"Please take all the time you need to recover. I apologize for the actions of our townspeople, it was un-excusable." Mararov seemed angered by the people's actions, something I couldn't understand.
"But their actions are justified. I'm your enemy and I hurt your guild members. I hurt Miss Lucy and Mr Gray at the games. Not even mentioning the fight with Laxus. Or what happened to poor Wendy. I'm sorry for hurting them," I dropped to the ground too fast for them to stop me, bowing my head to the ground in remorse. "I'm truly sorry for hurting them and I'm not mad at the townspeople, they have every right to hate me. When I leave, I won't fight back against them. They can hurt me as much as they want as is their right."
Everyone was shocked by this. I kept my body low to the ground, hoping that this would show them that I was truly sorry for what I'd done. I sat there for a moment before thinking about when I should leave. My thoughts were interrupted but Master Mararov's voice.
"Why do you think you deserve to be punished when it was not you, who physically hurt my children?" I was shocked, why would he ask that?
"Because I hurt them. It may not have been physical but I was still a part of it. I sat back and let it happen. I must be punished because of their actions. I'm just as evil as them," Mararov sighed as he seemed angry.
"You are not to blame!" The thundering tones of his voice shocked me to my core. "The ones who hurt my children are being punished. Ivan and his group are imprisoned, so stop blaming yourself. You may have been part of that guild but you are not the one who hurt us. I can tell from your words that you truly meant no harm to us. And for that, I hold no ill intentions towards you. So please tell me why you feel that need to be punished for everyone else's actions?" I lowered my head, thinking if I should tell him about my past. I couldn't see any way around it so I guess it wouldn't hurt anyone.
-Outside the infirmary door
I stood outside and listened to everything. The master was right to ask, why did she feel the need to take on the blame for everyone's actions. She was part of Raven Tail and I remember seeing her one time. She was by herself, reading in a corner of the main guild hall. She only made eye contact with me once and it was enough to make my heart skip. Those eyes that could see into the depths of my soul, were the most beautiful colors I had ever seen. So when I saw her walk into town, I knew something was wrong. Her body seemed fragile and weak, I could see she was hurt on her chest and she walked with a limp. What happened to her after her guild was shut down?
-I took a moment to gather myself and compose myself for the story ahead.
"I was born in a small village deep in the mountains, that location was prone to landslides, floods, and major fires. My parents lost magic was able to save the village many times for a number of years. Most of the villagers were older with no children so when I was born, the whole village wanted to step in to help with whatever was needed. I was raised by many amazing people, in a very peaceful life. Both of my parents used to work for the Magic Counsel before they had me, but because of their magic, the counsel was afraid of them. They left when my mother found out she was pregnant so they wanted me to have a good, simple life. Going to a village so far from most towns, it was a good life for the first few years of my life. I loved my life, I loved watching my parents protect the land. Their magic was beautiful and they taught it to me. Everything was perfect until I was six.
The magic counsel sent a group of soldiers to the village to deal with my parents. I was at Granny Mina's house helping her make a cake for my mother's birthday. We could hear the screaming, running out with everyone else only to see my house was burning to the ground. Many men went to help them only to be met with the ones responsible. The men tried to help but when they refused to back down, they were cut down. They killed everyone and left no one alive in order to leave no witnesses. Granny hid me inside a rain barrel, filled with water as the soldiers began burning everything to the ground. Granny was stabbed in front of me, I lost everything and everyone I loved.
I roamed for years after that. Lived on the streets for so long that I lost count. I stole, hurt, and used others just to feed myself. Master Ivan found me after I saved the town I was in from a tsunami by using the ground to make a wall. He saw the potential and power in me, he wanted to use it for himself. But with what I survived as a child, it was difficult for me to want to learn. So he just kept me around to protect the guild and the other members should they get attacked but didn't want to fight. I did this to protect them, I felt responsible for their actions and I felt the need to take the blame for them. Also the punishments."
I waited for them to respond, but they stood in silence. My head was low and ready to receive my punishment for confessing my crimes. Master Makarov sighed before he stood up, approaching my sitting form on the ground.
"You are not to blame."
His hand touched my head and I felt nothing but warmth and kindness. I felt tears drop from my eyes, I felt the need to cry and let it all go. But I also felt like I couldn't, like I wasn't allowed to.
"You can cry, child. You've suffered enough, it's about time you are given the chance to rest and truly recover from your pain. So please, stay here at Fairy Tail until you are well enough to move on your own again."
He smiled at me, all I felt was warmth and compassion. No resentment or hatred towards me, and his hand extended toward me showed no signs of lies. I felt my body engulfed with warm light for the first time in thirteen years. I wanted nothing more than to take his hand but I still felt like I didn't deserve it. I lowered my head again in shame.
"I want to take your hand. I want to heal but I don't feel like I have earned it. I must suffer before I can earn it so please let me suffer until I've earned the right to walk in the light." I bowed my head to him, a man of great kindness. He sighed again before nodding his head.
"I understand and will respect your wishes. But please know, that you can stay here anyway. Fairy Tail is a guild where those who've traveled in darkness can come to be reborn. So know this you will always have a place in our family."
Marakrov smiled at me as I just sat there stunned. He left the room along with Mirajane. Porlyusica helped me off the ground and into the bed, she re-checked my wounds before telling me to get some sleep. I lay there thinking about everything that the master said. Was he really okay with allowing someone like me to join the guild? I'll have to really think about it, maybe it would be okay if I rested here. The moment I closed my eyes, I felt a presence on the other side of the door.
"You might as well come in, I know you're there." With that, a man covered in metal.
