Cold metal meets your back as a girl ungraciously shoves you out of her way. She could have at least asked me to move.

You try not to glare too hard as the rest of her cronies saunter past like they own the whole world.

Honestly, you can't stand those idiots acting like they're above the rest.

The bell rings, announcing the start of another horrible school day. Hopefully, you'll make it without getting ridiculed or embarrassed.

The odds aren't in your favor, though.

This can be seen in the fact that G/n, your number one tormentor at school, has decided it would be fun to trip you, sending you flying forward.

You cry out as you fall towards, towards one of the only people you would really consider a friend. That person is B/n, a kind boy who sits beside you in most classes.

Beside him, your closest friend, Kyo, stands, getting a quick grasp of the situation.

His eyes widen in surprise, but he knows he can't let B/n catch you or else the big secret would be revealed to the whole world.

That secret being the curse of the Zodiac.

Whenever you or him hug a person of the opposite sex, you transform into animals. Kyo takes the form of a cat and you take the form of a wolf.

So, his eyes fill with regret as he grabs B/n and tugs him out of your way, allowing you to fall face-first onto the ground.

You understand why he did it, in fact, you were silently begging him to protect the secret. But, at the same time, you wish Kyo would've caught you instead.

Laughter assaults your ears as your classmates mock you.

"Ha! Kyo didn't even want to help you! I thought you were best friends!"

You curl into yourself, tears pricking the corners of your eyes as you try not to let them get to you. You suffer enough hate and scorn at home, you don't need it here too.

School is supposed to be a place where you can forget about all the crappy things in life, not make everything a hundred times worse.

"Shut up! I did not want Y/n to fall!" Kyo tries to defend, only making the situation worsen.

You ignore their taunts and stand to your feet before racing out of the building towards the woods.

The only place where you can find peace.

"Why are you home early?"

The question shouldn't sound so menacing, yet it does.

You hang your head, preparing for what is to come, "I didn't feel well."

"You never feel well, you're sick after all," is your mother's cold reply.

The words weigh you down.

Sick, because of this curse...

A burden, because of this curse...

A disgrace, because of this curse...

Unwanted, because of this curse...

You've heard it all a thousand times and each time still hurts as bad as the last.

"I didn't mean to worry you," you tell her.

She scoffs, "I wasn't worried."

She doesn't say it aloud, but you can see the words dancing in her expression, 'I was hoping you weren't coming back.'

Setting your things aside, you ignore the rest of her words, knowing that they aren't going to be kind anyways.

Once you get to your room, you shut the door and sink to the floor, tears spilling down your cheeks.

You will never be good enough for your family, you've already accepted the fact.

So, why are you crying?

Because you feel alienated.

Who wouldn't?

Smothering your face in your soft pillow, you try to think of better things.

School again... will the torture never end?

The usual occurs: loads of homework, rude students, and indifferent teachers.

But today, you couldn't keep your composure.

After the thirteenth snide comment directed towards you caught your attention, you snapped.

"Stop! Just leave me alone!" You scream at the top of your lungs before everyone in the bustling hall stills.

Everyone's eyes are on you as you realize what you just did.

You curse yourself before your watering eyes meet Kyo's. His expression betrays his surprise and his concern. The sight makes you feel infinetly worse, so you race from the school, ignoring his calls.

You can't stop yourself from transforming in a colorful puff of smoke, breaking into a sprint on your four paws.

Kyo gives chase, hastily grabbing your clothes for when you turn back from your wolf form.

"Y/n, please wait!"

An angry howl is his only reply.

He grits his teeth and runs even faster, struggling to stop as you suddenly stop your flight.

"I-I'm sorry, Kyo," you hang your head in shame, "I couldn't stand it anymore."

He catches his breath, "It's okay, Y/n, I get it."

The conversation trails off as you lay down, resting your wolfish head on your fuzzy paws. Kyo sits beside you, not quite knowing what to do.

He's not exactly the best when it comes to emotions, after all.

Slowly but surely, his hand finds its way to the top of your head, twirling through your fur. You huff and move a bit closer to him, craving the affection.

You're touch-starved, so his actions are very welcome.

He blushes but continues petting your head through his embarrassment.

"Kyo, you're a great friend... I feel like I don't tell you that enough."

His face heats up at the compliment, "You're great too, Y/n. Don't-don't let our classmates get to you. You're amazing."

You tilt your head to look at him.

He realizes what he just said, "No- I- You know what I meant!"

With another poof of smoke, you change back into your human form, "You're amazing too, Kyo-kun."

You cover yourself with your clothes as he faces the other way.

"Whatever," he turns his head away from yours, slyly hiding his flustered expression. "Just know... that I'm always here if you need someone."

He stiffens when your hand rests on his, "I'm here for you too. Thanks for being here."

You beam at him.

His heart swells with emotion as he takes in your brilliant smile. His lips lift into a smile of his own, resting his head atop yours.

"So cute..." He whispers to himself.

"Huh?"

"Nothing. We should get back."

He helps you stand after you dress.

Kyo surprisingly doesn't pull his hand away when you take it again.

Hand in hand, you walk back, feeling content with Kyo at your side.
