Show & Tell: Himiko Toga
Warning: Angst and depressing language
Anime: My Hero Academia
Character: Himiko Toga
Why was everyone always so harsh? Was it everyone, or was it more? Was it the whole society. Corrupted, cruel, and suffocating.
These rules held Himiko in place, but it was by her hair, it hurt, it didn't let her go anywhere. Her parents said they had loved her, but it took so little for them to push her away, act like she was never there.
"Stop that! What are you doing?!"
"Quit smiling like that! You look like some sort of deviant!"
Those words were so cruel, they did break her heart. It wasn't her fault, she didn't mean to do anything wrong.
And the system. That hero system. It was designed to be against "people like her." No matter what she did, no matter how hard she tried, it wouldn't change. And while others had to only put on a show, she was forced to work her ass off.
Why couldn't anyone see? Was it so hard? She let herself fall into her urges, be what she wanted. It was all she had. Though many, if not all would disagree, it kept her sane.
But she wasn't human anymore. Not to them. Why couldn't they see? Just like them, if she cut herself she would bleed. She wanted to say so, to show them, to tell them.
"I'm just like you, you're like me. Imperfect and human are we."
But the odds weren't in her favor. This was a world of show and tell, of buy and sell. That's how it was now, put on a show for them, let them take pictures of you, be on display. Be a product to society.
She didn't want to, couldn't, be that. Harsh words if she didn't obey. And the art didn't sell unless you fucked every authority. You had to be a doll, a piece, a puppet. Let them control you.
She couldn't bear it, it was killing her, the system was killing her. It cried for more, It was never enough. At some point she wanted to fall to the floor and ask them. "No more!" It was hard for her to say how she feels. If you didn't have a quirk that fit into their society you didn't get to say how you feel. If you did, you'd get thrown away like a banana peel. Like she had been.
She struggled. Her lifeline was wrapped around her neck. Then came Stain. She wasn't alone! There were others who saw! She went with them, joined them. Finally they could make a change.
But people still tried to stop them, Why was that? Why couldn't they see? The world was unequal. She tried so hard to wake them up, to cut the puppet strings. They didn't get it, she only wanted to help.
She was almost begging them now.
"Why is it so hard to see?! Why?! If I cut myself I would bleed! Kill me!"
She never said it though, and she wished she had, that would wake them up.
"Why can't you fucking hear me?!"
They wouldn't listen, they couldn't listen.
"Um... hello? Are you listening yet?"
It was killing her again, seeing the cruelty of this world, she couldn't take it. It was so painful. She had to let go, let go and let herself drop. So she let it slip.
Her lifeline became the noose she swung from, then the puppet strings that moved the corpse of her past self. Himiko was dead. It's Toga now, just Toga.
Her sanity was slipping, but she was already long gone. Why bother with anyone, they're all falling anyways? Finally she could scream, let it out. Who cares what anyone thought anymore?!
"Here I am, on display for all you fuckers to see!"
