Chapter 2

The night was shortly lived for Lachlan. Sleep was easy to come by, but hard to let go of.

"Alright, up and at it!" A male voice called, and a clang could be heard as something was thrown up against the cell doors. Lachlan groaned as the silence was disturbed. "Come on!" The voice yelled, lacking sympathy.
Lachlan blinked open his drowsy eyes, unable to recall where he was, but memories quickly crashed down on him, causing his eyes to widen quickly and he jumped to his feet.

Quickly, he looked around, studying what the place looked like in the daylight. Early morning light shown through a barred up window in the back of the cell, casting weak shadows along the floor where the darker ones weren't. "What are you two waiting for, Santa Claus? Get up!" The young male repeated himself, this time his impatience quickly seeping through. Lachlan realized that he wasn't talking to him, but to Rob. He watched as the boy crawled out from under his bench and yawned, then streched casually. He then stood up, not a glimpse of hustle.  The young man scowled, showing his disgust. "Hurry up you lazy ass-" "I'm up!" Rob said, raising both hands defensively. The man just frowned. "Yeah, sure." He muttered, hardly any emotion in his voice. He pulled a key out of his pocket, chlenching the key tightly in his hand, as though someone were going to snatch it from him...
"Alright you two. I'm going to open the door, and you are going to follow me, got that? No running. You know who you are..." Lachlan tensed. He was ready to run again, knowing he was probably faster than the last time, but at the same time, he was expecting it... Dammit!  He sighed, watching the man's keys jingle as he unlocked the cell's door. The door opened slowly with a creak, seeming so loud in the quiet building. The young man stepped aside, gesturing for them to follow, but Lachlan already knew what to do.
"Alright, follow me." The man directed. Lachlan stumbled out into the open hallway, realizing how hard walking was now going to be. Rob followed with ease.  The man facepalmed. "Kangaroo dude..." he sighed. "For God's sake just jump!" Lachlan tilted his head. "Jump?" The man looked ready to break something. "Yeah! Just do it!" "Fine." Lachlan muttered. Rob stayed quiet, seeming to not wanting to break the peace.

The man turned around and started walking down the cool, dark hallway. Rob followed instantly. Lachlan tripped and fell onto the cold floor, said a quick curse and bounced back up, this time following the young man's instructions instead of just walking. He felt awkward as he caught up to the man, who didn't even turn around to make sure he was following. "Where are we going?" Lachlan asked Rob, earning a shush from the strange man, even though the building seemed so vacant that he highly doubted anyone could hear. "I'm not sure..."

"...but we might be going to training." he finished. "Shut up!" The man scolded. He adjusted his black and green striped beanie irritably. They walked in silence for the rest of the way,the cold cill of the hallway making it harder to think strait. Dim morning light trickled in occasionally from small windows on the ceiling, making the hallway look dim and eerie.

The walk was short, but it felt like decades before they reached the locked, white metal doors barely visible in the shadows. "Wait here." Was all the guard said, knocking on the door. "That means don't move." The man said as though the other two were stupid things that needed to be locked away. You don't say? Lachlan thought. The man knocked on the door four times, in some sort of wierd code. He folded his arms and tapped his foot, impatient as always. A man in a lab coat opened the door. He had messy, short bown hair, tan skin, and deep blue eyes. He also had just a little bit of stubble.

"Oh, hey! Jackie!" He greeted the guard. "I haven't seen you since... yesterday." Jackie glared at the other man. "How many times have I told you not to call me that?" "Seven...Million." Jackie frowned. "Huh." The man in the lab coat opened the door even wider. "I'm ready to see them." The man informed Jackie. Jackie smirked, the closest to a smile Lachlan's seen all day. "Alright, Doctor. No time to chat. Tight schedule, eh?" The man nodded. "Yeah, I got most of my workers on fifteen hours a day." Jackie chuckled. "Is that even humane?" he asked. The doctor shook his head and smiled. "Nope."

The Doctor smiled even when he saw the two. Lachlan heard Rob whine behind him, while he himself felt scared.... Something was wrong about this guy. He seemed so calm and so nice, but something felt off. "What are you two waiting for? Come on in!" he sounded cheerful, as though he were trying to earn their trust. Lachlan didn't trust the man at all.

Suddenly Lachlan fell forward into the room, and a heavy weight landed on top of him. He gasped at the sudden impact, the breath knocked out of him. He heard a faint "Whoops." and then a chuckle from Jackie behind him, which made him want to punch Jackie in the face even more. "Well, like I said before," Jackie started. "Schudule's tight, and I gotta go." As Lachlan felt the weight on his chest lift as Rob stood up, he could hear soft footsteps slowly fading away as they got further. "Need help?" Rob asked, extending out his right hand for him to grab. Lachlan grabbed his hand, even though he didn't need any help.

Once he was on his feet, he looked around, quickly examining the area round him.

Greenery covered most of the area, though you could tell just by giving it a sideways glace that there were large patches of places without trees. There was a large dome that loomed over the place, supposedly made of glass. Early sunlight shone through it, finding it's way down all the way down to the sandy floor. It shone on a group of hurtles, and strips of land defined by lines drawn in a deep red, there was also what seemed to be obstacle courses. Even with that there, though, the place looked amazing. All though it was beautiful, it didn't feel natural. Not one bit. Sure, it looked real, but everything about makes you feel uncomfortable, like you don't know what was hiding in the darkness under the trees that surround you. Anyways, that's how it was perceived by the two kids that stood there, unsure of what will happen next.

Lachlan stood there, still looking around. He was trying to find a place to hide... a place to escape. But just as there was a "forest" in front of him, there was just nowhere to hide. Not even the bushes seemed safe, but to hide there was stupid, you'd be just asking for someone to find you...and do who knows what.

"Alright, Robert, you know the drill," The man said suddenly, interrupting Lachlan's thoughts. "but newbie here doesn't. He'll figure out sooner or later, though." The man continued. Today you both will have separate training, inside Building A. I don't want any dilly-dallying or falling behind, got that? You will follow me, and you will do as I say." The man paused, and looked both teens in the eye. "Any objections?" he asked. Lachlan shook his head awkwardly, while Rob muttered a "No, sir.", his tail tucked in between his legs. Well, he did seem nice at first. Wonder where that went. Lachlan thought bitterly. The man started walking forward without any warning, and Rob instantly followed, glancing back at Lachlan as to say "Come on, dude...". Lucky for him, he got what Rob was trying to tell him quickly, causing him to leap forward to catch up, then almost loose his balance as he knocked into Rob. Funny how this time it was him that fell onto Rob. "Sorry." Lachlan whispered. "It's okay." Rob replied, not turning around.

"If you two were wondering," the man started. "Refer to me only as Sergeant Hero, alright? Nothing else. No stupid names."

_-*-_-*-_-*-_-*-_

They had walked along a little dirt road that spiraled upwards. It was steep, but not like a mountain. The road led up to a shack with the letter "A" painted on it in a bright red, though the paint was fading and the building was rusting. How could this possibly be the training building? Lachlan thought. The man kept walking, so they had no choice but to follow inside. The sergeant tugged on the wooden door, allowing it to open slowly with a creak. He stepped inside, not looking back to see if the two were following... it's like he just knew. Rob entered, followed by Lachlan.

The first thing Lachlan noticed was a strange set of buttons on the wall, when the sergeant started punching a code of numbers in a strange pattern. Curious, the teen stared, waiting for something to happen.

What happened next surprised Lachlan. The man stepped inside this broken down, rusty looking elevator in the back of the room, it being so dark over there that Lachlan hadn't noticed it before. "Get in." The sergeant commanded. The two followed, the wooden floor creaking under the strain, seeming as though it was using all of it's strength just to keep from collapsing underneath them. The floor also sounded like there was no solid ground underneath it, causing his heart rate to accelerate.

He took a deep breath and quickly followed after Rob, who didn't seem bothered at all. He had to step over a metal bar to get into the elevator, which wasn't a problem.

The Sergeant Hero seemed to scoot to the corner of the machine, like he wanted to put some distance between the hybrids and him. The elevator went slowly at first. Suddenly the area outside the elevator changed from a dull brown to a shiny white, bright lights practically blinding Lachlan. He blinked, his eyes adjusting to the sudden light. The elevator speed up, the world outside a blur, and before he knew it, it was over. Hero and Rob grabbed the side of the elevator. Before Lachlan could react, elevator banged against the ground, making a crashing sound. It sent Lachlan up into the air for a split second.

And what comes up....

Must come down.

He sat there, stunned and silent. Rob extended out his hand for the grounded teen to grab. Lachlan grabbed it, and was hoisted up. "Thanks." He said. Rob nodded. "No problem."

"Alright. Rob," Hero started as they both climbed out of the strange elevator. "you're coming with me to Room 21-" "Twunie one." Rob whispered, though Hero didn't catch it. Lachlan had to resist the urge to laugh... "and Lachlan, you'll follow Dr. Davis to Room 5."

Rob nodded, and followed him with without a word. Lachlan looked around, trying to find this "Dr. Davis" person.

"Over here." A voice called from his left. Lachlan turned around quickly to find someone peeking out from a door labeled '5'. "I go in there?" He asked. The person nodded. "Yeah. Hurry, though, Dr. Davis hates it when we're late."

He quickly walked up to the shiny metal door. The person opened it for him, but stayed behind the door, like he was partially hiding. Lachlan cautiously entered. The room was big. Bigger than anyone would think, anyways. It looked like some sort of twisted gym. There were hurtles and other sorts equipment scattered everywhere, set up like an obstacle course.

A short figure stood at the beginning of this "obstacle course". He held a clipboard, and seemed to be writing things down. He stood only a few meters away. He seemed to only be around five and a half feet tall. He had tan skin with dark brown hair that was brushed to the side just over his eyes. He seemed to be in his late twenties. "Both of you are here." He murmured, writing something down on his check list. "How do you both feel?" He asked. "Alright, I guess." Lachlan muttered, not wanting to tell this stranger how he actually felt. He was unsure where the other kid went, until he spoke up from behind him... "I'm fine."

The man nodded and wrote down one more thing before clicking the button on the top of the pen and putting the clipboard down by his side. "Alright," he started. "today I'm going to see what you can do, and what you can work on. Then you will learn why you are here, and what you're for." He said, sounding kind of bored. "But before we get started, have you two met?" Lachlan shook his head, turning around to face the other boy. "I'll give you some time to do that."

The boy looked down. He had dark skin and dark hair. He also had a blue tee with a diamond shape in the middle, one side of the diamond was light blue, and the other side was red. But there was something more striking about him. It was like what happened to Lachlan and Rob... he was just like them. Different. He had these brown wings on his back. It looked like he could just fly away at any second. Lachlan wondered why he didn't. Maybe he was too scared?

The teen just continued to look at this one spot on the ground like it was the most intriguing thing he's ever seen. "I'm Lachlan." He stated calmly, causing the other boy to look up suddenly. "I'm Vik." He replied, lowering his head slightly. "Don't talk much?" Lachlan asked. Vik shook his head. "Interesting." Lachlan said. "Alright! Training starts at eight, which is in two minutes!" The man called. "Shit." Lachlan muttered. "Do you not want to do this?" Vik asked. "Do you?" Vik paused, then shook his head. "I'm actually really nervous." He chuckled nervously. "Me too." Lachlan agreed. There was a short silence, but it wasn't awkward or anything. "Do you think they'll hurt us?" Vik asked quietly out of nowhere. Lachlan paused, then shrugged. "I don't know..." he responded fearfully. "I hope not." Vik said, fear written in his facial expression.

Who knows what they would do to them- they certainly didn't.

"Time's up!" The man called. Lachlan was unsure whether it had actually been two minutes or not. He highly doubted it.

"Alright, who wants to go first?" The man asked, sounding bored. Go first for what? Vik quickly hid behind Lachlan, but was still clearly visible. No one said a word. "Aright, if none of you want to go, I'll just pick one of you." He examined the two teens. "How about... you." He declared, pointing to Vik. Vik tensed behind him. "All you need to do is show me what you can do. Use your... 'abilities'."

Vik still looked confused. "Just complete the obstacle course any way you want." Dr. Davis explained. Vik nodded. "Okay." He stepped forward from behind Lachlan hesitantly. He stood there for a second. It looked like he was thinking. But can't he just fly? Lachlan wondered. "I-I..." Vik stuttered. "You what?" The man asked. "I can't... I can't fly."

"Wait, what...?" Lachlan asked quietly. Dr. Davis picked up his clipboard and started writing something down. "Well," he clicked the top of the pen and looked at the two. "That's what I'm here for. Lachlan, would you mind just showing us what you can do?" He questioned. Lachlan nodded, but in reality he was unsure... what could he do? He could just jump really high... Wouldn't that work?

He took a deep breath. Then he jumped. He felt himself soar into the air, high above the world... even if it was only a matter of seconds before he came down. But those seconds seemed to freeze. Everything was in slow motion. He could see everything from where he was. But he soon felt the air whipping his hair as he fell back down, reality dragging him back down again. His feet landed on the slick ground with a quiet thud. He looked around, and felt confidence seep through, but then unease. The doctor wrote something down on his clipboard. "We still need to work with you two..." he muttered as he wrote. "You did great!" Vik cheered from behind Lachlan. "What is it with you and being behind me?" Lachlan asked suddenly. Vik smiled. "Well... You're tall, and I'm short. So it works out." It made sense. He was pretty short for a teen; he looked more like a twelve year old.

He must've been scared. He was hiding it well.

"Alright, guys, I'll be right back." Dr. Davis explained quickly and suddenly, before setting down his clipboard and rushing out the door. "Wonder what that's about..." Lachlan said. Vik shrugged. "Probably because of my inability." He laughed. "It might be. Or maybe he just has to use the bathroom really bad." Lachlan guessed. Vik smiled. "It might be. His water bottle seems to be empty." Lachlan looked over to his right to see that Vik was right. The water bottle was empty. The doctor also seemed to have forgotten his clipboard.

"Hey, come look at this..." Lachlan walked over to the clipboard and picked it up. "HEY!" A voice yelled, causing Lachlan to jump and drop the clipboard. "Who said you could read that?" The voice asked again. "Uh- um.... I..." Lachlan stuttered. A man in a uniform stood at the door way; his short, dark brown hair was swept neatly to the side. He had brown eyes that had a hint of amber in them, and a smile that seemed to burn with a cold fire. He wore a light blue, long sleeved button up shirt and dark pants that matched his black shoes. Instead of yelling again, he just laughed. He started walking closer to the two teens, causing Lachlan to feel uncomfortable.

But all he did was stare. Vik hid behind Lachlan yet again. Lachlan could make out what his nametag read from where he was. It read "James" in red letters. Then man spoke, catching Lachlan by surprise again.... And what he said....

[A/N] Sorry for the cliffhanger... ish. Also, these are OC's of mine... I personally hate reading OC Fanfic stories, but some are pretty good, like Nikkie in FNATP. These two dorks are nowhere near perfect, so don't worry about that.... :D

Have nice Sunday/Monday... or whatever day you're reading this...

Sorry if you didn't want this. XD
