Beady Lizard
Every night, as I opened my books and read,
A lizard with beady eyes would pass by my bed.
It would appear at that exact corner of my door every night,
And I found myself anticipating its entry with all my might.
It would come tip-tapping boldly through the door,
Not caring that it could end up as a bloody gore.
Despite all the dangers, it would stop to look,
Meeting its eyes, I would drop my book.
It would examine me for a while,
Contemplating its intentions, I would give it a smile.
The beady eyes would look at me with caution,
I would take hold of my pencil as a precaution.
At last, the lizard, shaken out of its trance, would quickly walk away,
And the cycle would come to repeat itself everyday.
