Entry One
Note: Events will be more detailed here as not only is this being written from Nova's POV but as I will actually have time to think things over and won't be as worried about keeping up with the chat.
The Meeting:
*the handwriting is not only messy, but also shaky. As if the author was writing in a moving vehicle*
When me and Divakar got to the meeting there was a crowd. I was kind of worried there wouldn't be a need for the two of us. It was a hot day, and I was hot. I hoped whoever was hosting this had water.
I noticed cops near by and gave Divakar a look. He nodded. The siblings shared a look, and with it a thought.
'Be on guard.'
We managed to push our way into the crowd, close enough to hear. As I bumped into someone I skillfully slipped a hand into their pocket. Feeling something that I guessed to be a necklace, I quickly shoved it in my own pocket before anyone could notice.
"Hello. My, my, all these new faces. All of you coming here I'm assuming cause of my flyer?" A man in a fancy suit said. He was sitting on the red truck, and I assumed he was the one in charge.
I also noted that he looked like he'd have something expensive in his pockets.
Divakar gave her a glance.
'We sure we want to do this?'
I nodded. I needed to prove this to him. I was ready.
The man cleared his throat. "I am a simple man, my name is Joker Ace and I am here looking for skilled individuals for a certain job. After the job is done, I have much bigger plans. And If you trust me enough after the job, perhaps you will be a part of these plans.
A officer, one who looked rather important, scoffed and laughed. "You won't find skilled individuals here," he shouted, making fun of the citizens. His squad laughed but the well dressed man seemed unbothered.
Divakar quickly put a hand on my shoulder, holding me back from going to maim the guy right then and there.
Someone sporting a dragon mask came out of the truck. They seemed to survey the group before relaxing a bit. Another masked person followed them and calmly looked over the crowd.
"Alright, so we made it here. Now what?" Someone spoke out, in the crowd.
"This job is a well paying one, those who come with me and help me will be paid well. Trust me, I'm a man of my word. You might be thinking 'why depend on me?' I have no name. No fame. Well that is true, but I am a man of action." Joker carried on.
The officer spoke out again. "I doubt your even a man!" His patrol laughed again.
Joker continued, smiling softy. "I'll prove to you my capabilities."
He held up a button and pushed it.
The silence was deafening. Then, a loud boom came from no where.
A statue, I'm guessing an important one, blew up.
Well, wasn't this exciting.
The important officer stood up, and pushed his way through the crowd. "What did you do!"
Joker pulled out a pistol.
Bang!
I watched, slightly terrified as the officer hit the ground. If he wasn't already dead, he wouldn't be alive much longer.
Suddenly the patrol started firing at us, and I had to dodge a bullet.
Joker laughed, "if you want to accept the job, hurry, hurry! And enter Big Red! This truck, we are taking off!" He yelled over the gun fire.
I stared at the dead body. A million thoughts going through my head.
Did Divakar know this was going to be involved? Probably not. Or maybe... I shook them off. I had to prove I wasn't weak. I started for the truck.
"We're leaving. Divakar said, grabbing my arm.
"Yea! With them! Before the police catch us!" I said dragging him over to the truck. Eventually he gave and hopped on, just missing a bullet to the head. He shook his head.
Joker laughed again, "take whatever you want on board! Just hurry and hop on! We need to go!"
Bullets are raining down on the truck now. I could see more officers arriving.
In Big Red:
I couldn't believe the inside of the truck. It was like a mini house! Or at least like the so called 'mobile homes' I saw in old magazines.
"Well," The Joker said in a charming tone, "now that you trust me enough to take the job, it's nice to meet all of you. We have a long trip ahead of us, so let's get to know each other. As I said before, my name is Joker."
"My name is Madison!" A girl said a little loud.
"That was a pretty creative way to force us to decide quickly. Even though you still haven't said what you wanted from us. You've earned my respect, but that doesn't mean I'll be your servant from now on." I heard a lady say. I didn't like the idea of being a servant again. I glanced at Divakar.
"Haha! Holy sh*t, what a rush!" One guy said. "The name's Tiffany! Feel free to call me Tiff! And hell yeah! This job seems like it'll be legit, crazy legit.
"Listen, Joker here knows what he's doing." Another guy said to the woman who had spoke before. "Besides, be grateful that we all didn't get shot."
I resisted the urge to tell people to shut up. Everyone talking over one another was giving me a headache.
"He's Leo, I'm Lynx." I spoke up quickly.
First rule of the streets: never give out your real name.
I could feel Divakar cringe next to me.
"I don't expect anyone to serve me. The job will be easier to explain when we get to our destination. For now I ask you all to trust me." Joker said. Then, hearing a question I didn't quite catch he said: "the law might go after you, if they remember who you are. What I just did? Well let me just say now me and my partners," he motioned to the masked people who had come out of the truck before. In fact, it made me realize he was the only one of them not wearing a mask. "We just declared war on the law fraction. However, they won't find us for a while. My base is pretty well hidden."
Everyone started talking again, so I zoned out a bit. Only half paying attention, just to save some of my sanity.
"The law after us?" I looked at Divakar. He rolled his eyes at me and shrugged. "Not much of a change for us then."
I heard Joker hum, his voice was unmistakable, so I snapped back to listen.
"I suppose rules are necessary to keep things in balance. But these ground rules should be simple. Like no shooting at each other. We wouldn't want that." He chuckled. "We will drive for another hour or so, before we have to stop. The night is dangerous for any moving object. Even Big Red."
After a bit of time, Joker laughed again. Scaring me out of my daze.
"It's good to be around friends! Even new ones." He said, opening a drawer. He pulled out some bottles I couldn't recognize, as well as cigars, juice, water, snacks and chips, as well as some dried beef, and placed it on the table.
"Help yourselves, friends. Now is a good time to celebrate! Part one of the plan has been completed. Yes, I will explain the job to you once we get to our destination."
The truck stopped.
"Now, however," Joker continued, "is no time to worry about work. It's the night. The night is dangerous. I say it is a good time to celebrate." He left the room for a few minutes before coming back in. "Yes. Now is a good time to celebrate."
Divakar reached out for the dried beef and some water. I grabbed juice and chips, but Divakar forced some beef into my hands as well. I rolled my eyes, but ate it anyway.
Probably the best thing I've had in weeks.
When the truck was parked, Joker whistle to a bird, giving it something before letting it fly off. "So, I would like to know your talents. What you can do?"
I heard a few mixed replies. Before Joker started talking again. "I'm sorry, the night is dangerous. Which is why we are parked and in place." He announced, sitting on a chair.
I smirked and looked at Divakar. "Would you like a demonstration of our talents, or would you like us to state them?" I asked mischievously, pulling the thing I had stolen earlier out of my pocket. It was, indeed, a necklace.
"Lynx!" Divakar growled at me. "I'm sorry, she means no offense. Who's necklace is this? She'll return it at once." He said, addressing the group.
"I was already planning on returning it, Leo. I was just playing around." I shot back. "But seriously, who does this belong to? I wasn't paying attention to faces."
"It's mine, Leo." Said a familiar voice.
My face dropped I I recognized Rei.
"Rei! I'm so, so sorry! I did expect you to be here. Long time, no see?" I chuckled. Nervous habit. I rather liked Rei. And she wasn't someone I wanted to be on the bad side of.
"Hey Rei, sorry about that." Divakar said glaring at me. I shrugged. What was I supposed to do about it now?
Rei took the necklace from me and put it around her neck. "It's fine, Lynx. Just don't take it again." She turned to Divakar, "don't worry about it, I'm just glad I got it back," she replied with a small smile.
"Heh. Yea. Let me know if Lynx gives you anymore trouble." Divakar said laughing.
"I said I was sorry!" I said, shoving him in the arm. He frowned and shoved me back.
We glared at each other before Divakar popped one of my chips in his mouth. I gasped, "betrayal!"
"Anyways, water under the bridge? Nice to see you again." He said to Rei.
"I will." Rei chuckled. "Yeah, nice to see you too. It's been a while, hasn't it."
"Definitely. How's—" I could almost hear him say Tara. "Life. Yea. Life." He said quickly.
I rolled my eyes, before looking around. I sat up straighter, then glanced at Divakar who was still talking to Rei. She looked between Simon and the pair. I smirked and moved closer to Simon, before poking him in the shoulder. "Hey Med Guy!"
Simon stopped fiddling with his things and looked up at me. "Oh my, Lynx! It is lovely to see you," he smiled at her. "You're here too? I'm not exactly sure where this job will take me... but I'm hoping it has good potential for my skills."
"Same here!" I chirped. I popped a chip in my mouth. This plan wasn't seeming so bad, now that there were people I knew here. It was getting better by the minute.
"Do you know anyone else here? I'm afraid I have no clue who anyone is, besides you and your brother," Simon said, adjusting his glasses.
"Hmm." I hummed. "I know Rei, Divakar is talking to her now, but let's see..."
I looked around again. Seeing another familiar face.
"Oh my freaking gosh I can't believe it." I said mischievously.
"What is it?" Simon asked, titling his head. He tightened his ponytail.
"It's Bomb Guy." I said smirking.
"Hey Bomb Guy!" I said, trying not to shout but still trying to get his attention over the noise. "Hey! Over here!"
James looked up at me, quickly getting up and walking over to me, Elena in his arms. "Hello Flitter... it's surprising to see you here, where is your brother Firefly?" He smiled, then turned to Simon. "Ah, I'm James, and this is Elena, who might you be...? I would shake your hand, but my hands are kinda full."
"Bomb Guy, this is Med Guy." I said cheerfully. "Leo is talking to our friend Rei."
"Well it's nice to meet you... uh. Med Guy." James said, Elena climbing up and around his neck. "And I'm glad that Firefly is here also, and that you are not alone." He reached into his schachle and pulled out two small fire rockets. "Here you go Flitter, one for you and one for your brother."
"Ooo!" I gasped. I smiled and put them in my own small pouch. "Thanks!"
"No problem." He said, patting my head. I smiled. "Now how about we cause some small mischief. How about that... let's say, your brother?" He said mischievously.
"Best not. He's talking. Although, I don't think he's noticed I left his side." I smirked.
"I'll have to write that down so I remember to get him back for that later." I said. Then a thought occurred to me.
"Leo is teaching me how to read!" I said excitedly.
"I guess you're right." James said, petting Elena's head. "And I'm happy that you are learning, Flitter." He gave me a smile. "So when you do get back at your brother... hit me up and I'll help you out, okay?"
"Of course!" I said, smiling. I tapped my foot on the floor.
James chucked, then yawned. "Ah, Flitter dear. I'm going to need a nap so that when we get to the base, I won't be sleeping on the job, hehe. If you want you and your brother can join Elena and I, but if not please tell your brother hi for me." He paused. "Also, if you don't mind waking us up once we get there. That would be really appreciated."
"Will do." I nodded, yawning myself.
He nodded and went to find somewhere comfortable to sleep.
I smiled. I was determined to stay up! I had to write this down anyway. And now I have! I'm still I'm still staying up thou *handwriting jags off, as if they fell asleep writing*
