Giant pandas

Pandas will sometimes eat birds or rodents.

A panda’s bones are twice as heavy as the bones of other animals the same size.

At birth, a panda is smaller than a full grown mouse and weighs about 118 ml [4 oz].

he hair of an adult giant panda can grow up to 10 cm [4 inches] long.

A typical panda eats half the day—a full 12 out of every 24 hours—and relieves itself dozens of times a day. It takes around 13 kg [28 pounds] of bamboo to satisfy a panda's daily dietary needs.

Researchers have counted 11 different panda calls—and four of them are used only when searching for a mate.

In China, killing a panda is punishable by death. They're one of the few animals that haven't been used in traditional Chinese medicine.

Pandas can stand upright, but their short hind legs aren’t strong enough to support their bodies.
