~Chapter Seventeen : The Assassin's True Desires~
~Start~

Gon opened his eyes and quickly sat up as he dreamed a bad dream while panting. Gon turned to look at his right as he heard a sound of a book being closed and saw the phase one examineer, Satotz.

"You're awake?" Satotz asked.

Ignoring the question, Gon proceeded with a question of his own. "Where am I?"

"A waiting room. Right next to the arena of the final phase." Satotz answered as he puts down his book, placing it down on a table and pointed to the sleeping figure next to Gon. "Along with that lady."

Gon looked at his side and widen his eyes to see you sleeping. "(Y/N)!" Gon exclaimed.

"She said that she's only gonna check up on you but for some reason, she ended up falling asleep next to you." Satotz explain. "She really looked so concern when she leaved the arena."

Gon smiled and patted your hair gently. "I see..." Gon said, blushing slightly as he remembered your concerned face and teary eyes on his match.

With his gentle pat, you felt it instantly you smiled at the good feeling. You always love it when someone pat your head, it makes you feel you've been a good girl. You looked up to find out who is petting you and saw Gon, smiling at you while his hands is on your head.

You sat up, slowly and stretched. You yawned as you rub your eyes. "Gon...Good morning..." You said, sleepily.

Gon smiled at you. "Good morning!" He said as you smiled back.

You both heard Satotz lifting his chair towards the both of you. Gon looked around as if he remembered something. "Oh, right. We were on a middle of the hunter exam." Gon said.

You widen your eyes. "That's right! Oh no, I fell asleep!" You thought as you sweatdropped.

"Your arm will heal quickly. The break was very clean." Satotz informed Gon. "In fact, once it heals, the bone will be stronger than ever."

Gon widen his eyes as he remembered his opponent, Hanzo. Satotz holds out his hand, for the both of you to shake. "In any case, I congratulate the two of you for passing the hunter exam."

You smiled and shooked his hand. "Thank you!" You said as you let go of his hand and turned to Gon, who's hesitating to shake Satotz hand.

"Satotz-san, I..." Gon started but immediatly been cut off by Satotz-san himself.

"You can't." Satotz said as he grabbed Gon's uninjured right hand and shook it. "Just as someone who already failed the exam can no longer pass, someone who already passed the exam can no longer fail." Satotz said as he let go of Gon's hand. "The rest is up to you."

"If you feel you are unqualified to be a pro, you can feel free to destroy or put away your license. You can even sell it, since no one can ever use it." Satotz said. "However, a person who already passed the hunter exam will no longer be allowed to retake the exam."

"Professional hunters are treated well, Largely due to our predecessors' efforts. Hence, there are many applicants who'll harbor many ill intentions." Satotz explained as he got two things that look like a book with the hunter association symbol on them and show it to the both of you. "If it weren'r for them, we would accept every person who will apply."

You and Gon looked at each other and back to the book and simultaneously opened them to see the famous hunter license.

"Most professional hunters consider this card valuable more than their lives yet no more than a worthless scrap of paper at the same time." Satotz explained as you and Gon listened carefully. "The important thing is what you accomplished once you became a hunter."

"What we accomplished..." You and Gon muttered.

Satotz holds out the two license infront of the two of you. "(Y/N)-san, Gon-kun, you can both decide for yourselves when you're ready to use this card. I have faith on your judgements." Satotz said.

You and Gon got the hunter license from Satotz as both of you smiled. "Okay!" You and Gon said.

"A lot of people helped me reach this point. I'll use this once I've returned the favor." Gon said as he smiled at you.

Satotz holds out his hands again for Gon to shake. "Then, allow me to congratulate you."

Gon gladly shooked his hands. "Thank you, Satotz-san."

Then Gon slightly widen his eyes and turned serious. "How about the other applicants? The exam is still going right?" Gon asked.

"That's right! I didn't know what happened because I fell asleep! What's happening now, Satotz-san?" You asked as well.

Satotz stared at the both if you for awhile and spoke up. "No, the exam is already over."

You and Gon was suprised but didn't really show that much. "Really?" Gon asked.

Satotz nodded. "Yes, you and (Y/N)-san slept for an entire day." He said.

"Really..." You and Gon said.

"The other applicants who passed are currently completing an orientation. Both of you will undergo an orientation later." Satotz said.

Then, as if the two of you has the same mind, you both speak up. "Who failed?" You both asked at the same time.

Satotz paused for a moment. "It was..."

"Killua."

You and Gon slowly widen your eyes as you can't believe your ears to hear that your friend, no, best friend has failed the exam. However, it's unlikely for him to fail the exam considering how much skills he have. Besides, he even said it himself that the exam was easy.

"Why did Killua fail?" You and Gon asked at the same time.

"First, let me fill you both in on what transpired while the both of you were sleeping." Satotz started. "That will help you both understand what had occured."

You and Gon looked at each other and eventually nodded at Satotz to let him continue.

"After you were knocked out, (Y/N)-san has, of course followed you here due to her concerns, am I right?" Satotz asked, looking over at you.

You nodded at him and gestured him to continue. "But she ended up falling asleep. Back to the main topic, Gon-kun, you were able to win over your opponent, Hanzo said it himself." Satotz-said.

"After that, the third match had begun. Kurapika vs Hisoka." Satotz continued. "The two of them fought for awhile but when Hisoka whispered something on Kurapika's ear, Hisoka took the loss and Kurapika won the third match."

"What did Hisoka say?" Gon asked while you being curious as well.

"I don't know, but it leave Kurapika suprised." Satotz answered. "The fourth match was Hanzo against Pokkle."

"Just like you, Pokkle had find himself in same situation as you but admitted defeated almost immediatly and sealed the deal." Satotz said. "The fifth match was Bodoro against Hisoka. The match was extremely one-sided but Bodoro refused to give up."

"However, while Bodoro was lying on the floor, Hisoka whispered something in his ear and Bodoro surrendered." Satotz explained. "The sixth match featured Killua and Pokkle."

"But as soon as the match can even start, Killua took the loss saying that he's not interested on fighting Pokkle and walked away. He must have felt that he could win in his next match." Satotz said.

You sweatdropped. "As expected of Killua...I don't get it, what did he do to fail the exam? There's no way Killua would lose with someone, right? If he did, then who?" You thought to yourself. "I guess we're gonna find out then..."

"In the next match, Leorio requested that the seventh match will be postponed until Bodoro recovered from his injuries." Satotz said. "So Killua and Gittarackur fought first."

"But that was when Killua made his fatal mistake and an unexpected event happened."

~Killua vs Gittarackur Scene~

Killua slowly walked towards Gittarackur, removing his hands from his pockets. But before Killua can reached him, Gittarackur spoke up.

"It's been a long time, Kil." He said.

Killua looked up and raised his eyebrows in confusion. "Huh?" He said.

Then, Gittarackur slowly removed each one of the needles that was stuck in his face while Killua watched. Then, Gittarackur's face changed shape and his hair was becoming longer and turning black.

Then, as soon as Gittarackurs hair and face changed, Killua widen his eyes in terror. Nervous sweat began dripping down his face.

"Brother..." Killua whispered, nervously.

~Back to the Three of You~

"Eh? Gittarackur is Killua's brother?" You and Gon said, shocked.

"Yes. His real name was Illumi." Satotz said.

"That's it! His brother must be the reason why Killua failed the exam!" You thought as you and Gon narrowed your eyes and listen carefully to Satotz.

~Back to the Killua and Illumi Scene~

Killua trembled in fear as he looked up to his brother. He tried to keep a strong face but didn't work so well with the sweat that's dripping down his face.

"Killua's brother?" Leorio said.

"He used those needles to change the shape of his face?" Kurapika said.

Everybody watched the unexpected scene before them as Killua kept looking at his brother and Illumi looking down at him.

"I heard that you cut up mom and Milluki." Illumi spoke up.

Killua tried to smile as he nodded. "Y-Yeah...I guess..."

Illumi tilted his head, expression not changing. "Mom was crying." He said.

"Well, any mom will if their son do that to them." Leorio said.

"Tears of joy." Illumi added making Leorio fall anime style.

"She was so happy with you growing up but she's worried about you leaving home so she asked me to check up on you." Illumi explained. "What a coincidence. I didn't think you wanted to be a hunter. I'm actually trying to get the hunter license for my next job."

Killua looked down. "I don't really wanted to be a hunter...I just felt like I wanted to take the exam..." Killua explained.

Illumi looked at him. "I see..." He said. "That's a relief. Well, here's an advice for you."

"You're not cut up to be a hunter." Illumi said, making Killua flinched and sweated more than ever, becoming nervous and scared once again.

"You were born to be..." Illumi started as he looked at the nervous and scared Killua. "A killer."

~Back to the Three of You~

You and Gon looks suprised at what you heard from Satotz.

"Is that really what he said?" Gon said, unsure. "Killua mentioned his family before but they sound crazy."

"Yeah, and it's hard to think that he's own brother is the one who's reminding him that his a killer." You said. "And he's not. Killua's a good guy actually."

"Yes. But he wasn't finish yet." Satotz said.

~Back to Killua and Illumi~

"You're a puppet of darkness, without passion. You don't want or wish for anything. As one who lives in the shadows, you only feel pleasure when people die." Illumi said making Killua remember the people who he had throughout the exam. "That's how dad and I raised you. What would you accomplish by becoming a hunter?"

Killua bit his bottom lip. "It's true that I don't really desire to become a hunter...But I do have something I desire..." Killua said, looking down.

"You don't." Illumi said.

Just as he said that, Killua looked up at him. "I do!" He yelled. "There's something I really want!"

Illumi reached out his hand. "Then, tell me. That something you want." Illumi said.

Killua looked down once again. He opened his mouth but then closed it again.

Illumi noticed his hesitation. "What's wrong? There's nothing you really want, is there?"

Killua narrowed his eyes. "That's not it!" He yelled. "I...Want to be friends with Gon and..." He paused. "I... wanted to be more closer to (Y/N)..."

"I'm sick of killing people..." Killua said. "I wanted to be friends with Gon and be more closer to (Y/N) and just live a normal life..."

"That's impossible." Illumi said, making Killua flinch. "You'll never be able to make friends or be more close to anyone." He said. "Your only concern when you met someone is whether you should kill them or not. That's how you were trained."

"You just don't know how to clasify Gon because he's too dazzling for your eyes." Illumi said. "Especially (Y/N)." He said, making Killua look at him, eyes wide.

"You don't actually want to be friend with Gon or be closer to (Y/N)." Illumi said.

"You're wrong..." Killua muttered.

"If you'd stay with them, you'll end up wanting to kill them one day." Illumi said, making Killua clench his fist, tightly. "You'll get the urge to see if you can kill them or not. Because you have the soul of killer."

Suddenly, Leorio narrowed his eyes and got closer to them but was blocked with a man in suit.

"As we mentioned before..." The man started.

"Yeah, I know!" Leorio said and looked behind him. "Killua! I don't give a damn if he's your brother but he's a worthless piece of crap! Don't listen to him! Just beat the crap out of him as usual and win!" Leorio yelled. "You want to be friends with Gon and you want to be closer to (Y/N)!? Are you daft!?" Leorio said as he pointed to Killua.

"You and Gon are already friends! (Y/N) is already close to you!" Leorio said, making Killua widen his eyes in realization. "I'm sure that's how they feel!"

Illumi looked at Leorio. "Really?" He said.

"Hell, yeah! Idiot!" Leorio said.

Illumi put his hand on his chin and think. "I see...That's no good..." Illumi said, expression not changing. "Gon already considers Kil as a friend and (Y/N) already is so close to Kil..."

Then, Illumi raised his index finger. "Okay, then, I'll kill both (Y/N) and Gon." He said, making everyone suprised and making Killua narrowed his eyes.

Illumi got three needles in his fingers. "A killer doesn't need friends or anyone who's close to them. They'll only slow them down." Illumi said as Killua trembled in fear.

Illumi turned around. "Where are they?" Illumi asked, walking to the door as Killua slowly looked at him, nervously.

"P-Please wait! The match is still..." The referree said but was cut off when Illumi threw three needles at his face, making him roll in the ground in agony. "Where are they?" Illumi asked, once again.

"I-In the waiting room over there..." The guy said.

"Thank you." Illumi said as he continued walking.

As he was nearing the door, he was blocked by three people. Kurapika, Leorio and Hanzo.

"This is no good..." Illumi started. "I need a hunter license to finish my next job...But if I kill them, I'll fail and Kil will automatically pass."

"Oh, darn, the same thing will happen if I kill (Y/N) and Gon." Illumi said as he put his hand to his head, then raised his index finger. "I know! I'll kill them after I passed the exam!" He said.

Leorio narrowed his eyes. "Bastard..." He said.

Illumi turned to Netero. "If I wait until after passing the exam, I can kill everyone here and still keep my license, right?" Illumi asked.

"Yes. According to the rules." Netero answered.

"Did you hear that Kil?" Illumi asked, turning to Killua. "You have to beat me to save (Y/N) and Gon's life."

Illumi then slowly walked towards Killua. "For your friends' sake, will you fight me? You can't. Because you're more worried wheather you can defeat me or not." Illumi said.

As Illumi reached Killua, Killua looked up at him more scared than before. "You already have your answer. "I'm not strong enough to beat my own brother". "Never fight enemies you know you can't beat." I drilled that into you." Illumi said as he slowly reached out his hands to Killua.

Killua was about to move backwards but Illumi quickly noticed this. "Don't move. If you move an inch, I'll assume the fight has begun and if pur bodies made contact, I'll also assumed that the fight has begun."

"There's only one way to stop me. You know what it is." Illumi said as he neared his hand close to Killua. "But don't forget. If you don't fight me, your precious (Y/N) and Gon will die."

"Take him out Killua! We'll never let him kill you, Gon or (Y/N)! We'll stop him whatever it takes! Let him down!" Leorio yelled.

But Killua was beyond scared and nervous at that point, He's even starting to hyperventilate. Just as when he couldn't take it, Killua lowers his head. "I...Surrender..." Killua said, making Leorio and Kurapika shocked over his answer.

Illumi looked at him and actually smiled. He clapped his hand. "Ah, that's good. Now, the battle's over." He said as he laughed. "I lied, Kil. I lied about killing Gon and (Y/N). That was just a little test but now I have my answer." Illumi said as he crouched down at Killua's height and put a hand on his head.

"You don't have the right to make friends nor do you need anyone close to you." Illumi reminded him. "You should just listen to dad and me and do your job as you always have."

"When the time comes, I'll tell you to take the hunter exam. You don't need a license yet."

~Back to the Three of You~

You and Gon have now have slightly angry expression on your faces as you both confinued to listen to Satotz.

"After that, he was reduced to a shell of himself. Leorio and Kurapika tried to help, but he wouldn't respond." Satotz said

"The seventh match was Leorio and Bodoro." Satotz continued. "Bodoro had recovered, but when the match has started..."

"Killua appeared behind him and stab him from behind using only his bare fingers." Satotz said. "...And it was over in a second."

"Killua had killed Bodoro and the committee disqualified him."

Just as you and Gon understand the point, Gon jumped to the bed and you stood up to your chair. "Let's go, (Y/N)." Gon said, angry and serious.

"Yeah." You agreed as you followed him and slide open the door.

"Gon-kun! (Y/N)-san!" Satotz called.

"Where is everyone?" Gon asked.

"You need more rest...Gon-kun!" Satotz tried to call him but the two of you just kept walking towards a large door. You both had the feeling that everyone must be here.

Once you both reach the door and burst it opened, making everyone looked at you. You both entered and looked around, once you found black-haired man, you both calmly walked over to him.

Once you both reached him, you both stared at him for awhile as he didn't made an eye contact. You both narrowed your eyes. "Apologize to Killua!" You both said, with a tint of angry voice.

Illumi looked at the two of you. "Apologize? For what?"

"You don't know what you did?" You asked as you clenched your fist.

Gon did the same. "You don't have the right to be his brother." Gon said.

"Must I earn the right to be his brother?" Illumi asked.

You narrowed your eyes and Gon grabbed his right hand and lifted him up to the air. That's when you grab hold of his other hand.

You and Gon were now looking at him as he landed perfectly on the ground.

"Then, he doesn't need to earn the right of being our friend!" You and Gon said as the both of you squeezed his hand, tightly as you could.

Illumi looked a little suprised on how much strength the two of you have and looked at the both of you in the eyes.

You both then, walked to the side. "Fine. Don't bother apologizing." Gon said.

"Just tell us where to find Killua." You said.

"Then, what will you do?" Illumi asked.

"Isn't obvious?" You said as you and Gon looked at him in the eyes.

"We're going to rescue Killua!"
