~Chapter One : Departure~

~8 years old~

The little you were walking peacefully around your school. But then you heard sobbing coming from the back of the school. Peaking behind a wall, you saw a fragile-looking little girl, younger than you, crying, not loudly but loud enough for you to hear. You became concerned and walked towards the poor girl.

"What's wrong, little girl?" You asked concerned.

The little girl looked a little startled but soon relaxed to see your comforting concerned face. She, then, pointed towards the top of the big tree infront of both of you. "M-My balloon flew and got stuck there..." She said, sobbing.

You smiled at her and rubbed her back, comfortably and gave her a thumbs up. "Don't worry, big sister is going to get it for you!" You said, smiling and walked towars the big tree.

You tilted your face and think. "What kind of animal is good at climbing trees?" You asked yourself. After a few seconds, you snapped your fingers. "Ah! A squirrel!" You thought.

Just then, a tail that resembles a squirrel's appeared behind your back and a pair of squirrel ears appeared on your head causing the little girl to fell on her butt at suprised.

You, then, jumped and grasp the tree and continued jumping until you reached the top where the balloon is and untied the string of the balloon.

You jumped back down, carefully with the balloon on your hands and walked towards the little girl.

"Here you g-" you stopped when you noticed the girl has a scared look and trembling in fear.

"MOMMY!" The little girl yelled with tears falling from her face and cause people to hear her. "THERE'S A MONSTER!" She yelled, which shocked you and accidentally let go of the balloon.

"Wait, I'm not a-" you tried to tell her but unfortunately, people began to come over and saw you. You forgot that you still have your squirrel ears and tail.

"The little girl's right! There's a monster here!" A guy yelled and a woman came out of the crowd and grabbed the little girl you were trying to help.

"Stay away from my child, monster!" The woman said.

"I'm not a mon-" you tried calling again but a guy throw a rock on you and hit you in the forehead, hard.

"Ouch!" You exclaimed as you put your hands at your forehead. Tears began to appear on your eyes.

People started throw more rocks at you. You used your large squirrel tail as a shield. When you soon reached your limit, you jumped to a tree to escaped the people and jumped to another tree.

When you reached the surface you ran as fast as you can to your and Yumi, your guardian's house. You noticed people where still chasing you when you looked behind you.

Once you reached your and Yumi's house, you immediatly barged inside, startling Yumi who was cleaning the shelves. She noticed that you had a bruise on your forehead and ran to you. Then, when she was close enough, she noticed your squirrel ears and tail.

"(Y/N)..." She whispered.

You turned to her with tears on your eyes and hugged her waist. "Yumi-san...Please help me..." You whispered, voice cracking.

"What's wrong? Why do you have ears and tail of a squirrel? Why do you have a bruise on your forehead?" Yumi said, concerned.

"The peop-" you tried to say but got cut off by a loud yell outside.

You and Yumi peeked to the window to see people yelling outside. Yumi then put her hands on each of your shoulder.

"Okay, (Y/N), calm down..." Yumi said.

You breath in and out and slowly calmed down. When you showed Yumi that your calmed down she smiled and nodded. "Good, (Y/N), were gonna talk about this later. But for now, can you make those squirrel ears and tail disappear?" She said, nicely.

You slowly nodded and close your eyes. Soon, the squirrel ears and tails disappeared and now, you look like an ordinary person.

Yumi smiled at you. "Great. Now, I need to talk to these people. Fix yourself up and make yourself look like you just woke up and cover that big bruise on your forehead with your bangs, okay?"

You nodded. Yumi opened the door, making the people quiet down. "What is it, Ma'am and Sir? Your disturbing the animal's and my child's sleep." Yumi said, with an angry yet, polite voice.

"We saw a monster go in inside your house and it looks awfully like your child!" One man yelled.

"How dare you call my child monster! My child was merely sleeping at our living room the whole time!" Yumi yelled back.

As the yelling continued, this gives you time to change into your pajamas and mess your hair to make it look like you just woke up. You covered the bruise from your forehead with your bangs and make your face look half-asleep.

You walked over to Yumi who was arguing with the people and tugged slightly on her dress. "Yumi-san... What's happening?" You said, rubbing your eyes, as if you were still sleepy.

Yumi smiled at you and kneeled down to your height. "Nothing, honey. This people and I were just having an adult conversation." Yumi said. "Now, go back to sleep." She said.

You nodded and lay down on the sofa and cover yourself with the blankets that's been there.

Yumi turned to the people. "See? My child was just innocently sleeping here! There is no way she will go out and attack a little girl! She can't even hurt a bug! Besides, she's still young!" Yumi yelled.

The people looked very guilty. "Erm...Sorry, Yumi-san...We were sure the monster ran inside your house but maybe it just pass your house."

The people bowed down. "We apologize, please forgive us."

Yumi smiled. "You're all forgiven. Now, please, leave then."

The people began walking away from your and Yumi's house. Yumi close the door and locked it. She walked over you and sat on the sofa you were laying down.

You slowly sat up. Yumi looked at you. "Okay, (Y/N) start from the beginning." She said, sincerely as you slowly nodded.

You explain to her everything, on how you escaped the orphange and your powers.

After your done explaining, you look down, guilty because of not telling her sooner and sad because she might not look at you the same way as before.

But instead, Yumi giggled. "(Y/N), why didn't you tell me sooner? That was a cute power!" She said.

You looked at her, suprised. "You're not mad?" You said.

"What are you talking about? Of course I'm not mad. Your powers didn't really do nothing to change your personality and neither your appearances as well!" She said. "You're still my cute and adorable little (Y/N)!" She said as she hugged you.

You can feel tears on your eyes as you hugged Yumi back. "Yumi-san...Thank you."

After the incident, Yumi didn't allow you to go to school anymore, because someone might bully you. So you just stayed home after that.

"Don't worry, (Y/N), I'll be your teacher starting today! I know how much you love to go to school!" Yumi said.

You smiled at her. "Yumi-san, thank you. First, you've been like a mother to me. Then, you're now my teacher! I wish there is a way to repay you." You said to her.

"You don't to repay me, (Y/N), having you was enough." Yumi said.

"But still...Let's see...Umm..." You said, thinking. "Ah! I know! I don't want to cause you anymore trouble so maybe I'll..."

"I will refuse to use my powers anymore."

~12 years old~

"Yumi-san, please!" You begged. "Please let me join the hunter exam!"

"No! That will be dangerous for you!" Yumi said.

"Yumi-san, I want to become a hunter! I want to, so maybe I'm not gonna rely on my powers anymore!" You said.

"Being a hunter is a dangerous job! You don't have any weapons, what will you do to defend yourself!?" Yumi yelled.

"I have! My powers..." You said, trailing of. "You see, Yumi-san, I still wanted to repay you. Maybe if I learn how to control my powers properly, I'll be useful to you." You said. "So please!"

Yumi looked at you and sighed in defeat. "Then, pack your things while I prepare you some food." Yumi said as she walked to the kitchen.

You stand there dumbfounded. When you realised what happen, a wide smile appear from your face.

"Yay!"

You and Yumi were going to depart soon. You were just waiting for the boat to the hunter site. Once it came, Yumi hugged you while you hugged her back.

"Yumi-san, Thank you. I'll send you letters everyday. Don't worry I'll come back as soon as I can." You said, with tears appearing from your eyes.

"Yes...Take care, (Y/N)..." Yumi said, tears appearing from her eyes as well.

"I'll go now! Bye, Yumi-san!" You said as you break the hug. Yumi smiled at you and waved.

"Bye, Yumi-san!" You said as you waved and the boat moved.
