Chapter 9
*A/N: Jerrie. That's the Friend-ship name for Jeremy and Carrie. Jerrie. Or should it be spelled Jarrie?*
Carrie tapped Jeremy on the shoulder. He jumped out of his skin, laughing nervously when he saw her. "Oh, Carrie! You scared me."
"Sorry!" She giggled. "I just wanted to thank you. For... taking me to the dance. I'm glad I got to go with someone as nice as you."
"Well, I just wanted to do something nice." Jeremy was about to say more, but Carrie cut him off. She kissed him. The kiss wasn't aggressive, and it wasn't a quick peck. It was actually perfect; which was odd, for a girl that had never been kissed before. But it felt so natural, so wonderful to Carrie. She felt like she was kissing Tommy. She never got to kiss Tommy. But she got to kiss Jeremy, and that was just as good.
But not for Jeremy. He was freaked out. He had also never been kissed. He tried to kiss Christine once, but misfired and kissed her eyeball. But although Carrie's first kiss was magical, Jeremy's was a horror show. He did not think of Carrie that way; he just wanted to do something nice! What was he supposed to say now? She was obviously happy, and he didn't want to hurt her feelings, but he would have to. He didn't want to be in this type of relationship. Not with her. He pulled back.
"Uh, listen Carrie. I-"
"Zoe!"
The entire hallway turned to look at Christine and Connor at the end of the hallway. They both looked angry. Zoe and the Heathers, standing at the other end of the hallway, smirked. Except for Zoe. She looked a little shocked.
"Give the diary back." Connor said.
"What are you talking about?" Chandler said, smiling.
"You stole Christine's diary." Connor said, stepping forward. The Heathers did too, all in sync.
"I did?" Chandler said, laughing. "Zoe's the mastermind here." She said.
Zoe's eyes went wide open as everyone stared at her.
"Tread lightly." The SQUIP said.
Before Zoe could get a word in, Christine spoke up. "I know that's not how it went! Zoe's a good person."
All the Heathers laughed. Chandler pulled the diary out of her purse and held it high above her head. "Then who gave me this?" She lowered it, shoving it into Christine's face. "By Monday morning, this thing will be public."
Connor reached for it, but Heather held it back. Carrie had an idea. She tiptoed forward, reaching for the diary. Duke saw her first, shoving her onto the floor and stepping on her chest with her high heel. Chandler laughed. "Nice try, Scary White." She looked at Zoe. "Thanks for giving us that name, by the way."
Chandler kicked Carrie's face, before putting the diary back in her purse. As she and the other two Heathers walked down the hallway, the onlooking students parted like the red sea. To add insult to injury, Duke winked at Connor. Chandler turned around. "You coming, Zoe?" She smirked.
Zoe looked down at Carrie, looking up at her with her dark eyes. They were filled with too many emotions. Anger, sadness, fear... but for Zoe? Pity. Only pity. She wanted to apologize, she wanted to help Carrie up, but...
"Walk. Now." The SQUIP shocked her neck, sending Zoe straight up. Taking a deep breath and suppressing her guilt, she smiled and walked through the hallway, laughing with the Heathers.
"I. Hate. Those. Girls." Connor gritted his teeth.
Meanwhile, Jeremy was the only one at Carrie's side as she stood up, rage in her eyes. Maybe now wasn't a good time to tell her how he really felt. "Jeremy." She said. "Tell me. If those girls were to just die, would everything be better?"
"Well, I guess-"
She looked him in the eye, as Jeremy felt his throat close up slightly. He almost thought he saw a fire in her eyes... literally. "Do you really mean that? With all your heart?"
Terrified to disagree with her at the moment, Jeremy nodded. "Do you trust me?" She asked.
"Of c-course I d-do." He choaked out.
Carrie smiled and held out her hand for Jeremy to take. "Then come with me. I want to show you something."
Jeremy took her hand, mirroring a scene where a defenseless, innocent maiden might take a seductive demon's hand. And in a way, that's what was happening. Carrie let the demon loose once, now she was going to do it again. But this time, she wouldn't be alone. Jeremy was coming to hell with her. No, not Jeremy. Tommy was coming with her.
As the pair passed by, they passed Veronica. Her eyes were tearing up. She was looking in a mirror when she looked at Zoe. She was going to see it all happen again.
Everything was going to happen again.
