Chapter 16

Christine was now sitting inside her locker, close to the ground. Connor was leaning up against the locker next to her.

"This was a bad idea." She said. "Lying about Heather? God, that's so stupid."

"I tried to tell you that." Connor said witha shrug.

"You are not helping." She sighed and burried her hands in her face. "I wish I could take it all back."

"Take what back?" Christine looked up. Michael was standing above her.

"Nothing." Said Connor.

Christine stood up, totally ignoring Connor. "Connor and I wrote the e-mails between Heather and I!"

"Wait, what?"

"Ahhh, I didn't mean to! I mean, I did, but I didn't mean to popularize it this much! And I was freaking out, becase Heather killed herself, and AHHHH!" Connor slapped a hand over her mouth.

"Do you WANT the entire school hearing you?" He whispered. Christine nodded.

"Okay, as fun as it is watching you two loose it; Christine, you've got to come clean." Michael said.

Christine wriggled out of Connor's grasp. "I agree. I have to."

"Do you know what you're doing here, Christine? You're going to get into so much trouble." Connor said.

"I know, but... I can't keep lying. I have to come clean. And you should too."

Connor didn't say anything.

"Connor..." Christine trailed off.

He sighed. "Okay. Okay. I'll come clean." He nodded as Christine patted him on the back. She hugged him around the middle, shocking Connor a bit.

"Thank you." She whispered. Connor slowly relaxed, but not much, patting her hands which pressed into his stomach.

"Alright, alright, let go." Christine let go of him, still grinning. He couldn't help but smile at her funny little grin. She was like a little sister to him. He felt like the big brother he never was to Zoe.

"Thanks, Michael." She said. Michael gave her a friendly punch.

"So what's the plan for this? Stand on a chair and scream-" Connor spoke as he opened his locker, beside Christine's, but was cut off when a letter in a little white envelope fell out. Written on it was the name "Zoe Murphy."

"What's that?" Christine asked, leaning over his shoulder. Michael leaned over hers.

"Someone must have thought that this was Zoe's locker." He said. He started opening the letter.

"That's not yours." Christine said.

"She's my sister, I'd get to it one way or another." He said. He opened the envelope. "It's blank. There's nothing on here." He showed them the blank sheet of paper.

"What's up with that?" Asked Michael.

"I don't know, but- Christine!" Connor pointed to her.

"What?" Christine felt her hair fall out of the messy bun she had put in that morning. Her hand reached up to touch it. The pencil that held it in place had lifted itself out of her hair and now hovered above the blank letter.

"What the hell-" The pencil started to write on it's own.

Back off, or it's not just your sister I'll kill.

"What the fu-" And with that, the letter ripped itself up in Connor's hands, falling to the ground in pieces. The pieces set themselves on fire. Connor stepped back, shocked, before stomping the flames out.  He turned to Christine and Michael, eyes wide. "UM...."

"I have no idea." Christine said. "Michael?"

Michael thought for a second. "A lot of weird stuff has been going on, but this... this is weird even for us. Veronica, Evan and I have been trying to figure out what's going on."

"You mean like, an investigative team?" Christine asked.

"Yeah. Veronica's talking to Zoe, I'm talking to you, and Evan-" He stopped. "Evan's spying on Carrie White."

"So?" Connor asked.

"Oh, I get it." Christina said. "Flames, just like the Ewen High fire. It's a hint. Carrie has something to do with this."

"So what are you going to do?" Asked Connor.

"I don't know. If Carrie really does have something to do with this, Evan's screwed." Michael said.

"Then I'll help him out." Christine looked up.

"Connor?"

"It's the least I can do for lying to the whole school." He said. For the first time ever, Christine saw Connor smile. "I'll help Evan out."

"You sure about this, man?" Asked Michael.

"Yeah. I am."

Meanwhile, around the corner, Carrie was watching them. Now she knew what she had to look out for. And who she may have to kill.
