Chapter 8
I walked through the abandoned building, in between Isaac and Scott. Isaac had called me to help them out with facing Deucalion, though I'm not sure why since most of my 'powers' are defence rather than offence. The man in questioned loomed over us on one of the two escalators. "You didn't come alone." He stated.
"Yeah," Scott said, "This is Isaac and Rori."
"I'm not talking about them. But I do find it interesting that you brought an Angel with you." He replied calmly, but the edge to his voice added a sense of danger that caused me to tense up.
Hearing footsteps, we turned to see Derek making his way towards us in werewolf form with Boyd and Cora behind him. "You knew I would do this? Derek, don't. You can't do this so no one gets hurt. If someone else dies-" Scott pleaded but was inevitably interrupted.
"Him." Derek pointed at Deucalion bitterly. "Just him."
"Just me?" He mocked. " Now, how's a blind man find his way into a place like this all on his own?" The sound of rubble hitting the floor caused us to turn and see Kali sliding down a cement pillar, her nails holding her up as they scraped through it like a knife through butter. She dropped to the floor on her feet. We spun around to see Ennis walking up behind us. Isaac gripped my wrist tightly and tugged me closer to him as we stepped back
Derek was the first to make a move, running towards Deucalion. Kali attacked as Isaac, Scott and I were distracted by a thump behind us and a bellowing roar. We turned to see Ethan and Aiden standing as their one Alpha. My wings sprung from my back and I sighed, not knowing what to do in this situation. I had nothing that could hurt these people except for my fists.
Isaac and Scott lunged at the huge Alpha. I went to help when I felt someone grasp at my hair, pulling me backwards before throwing me onto the floor. I rolled a couple of times as my head came in contact with the hard concrete. I jumped back to my feet as Kali stalked towards me with a predatory glint in her eyes. As if she was the hunter and I was the one being hunted.
She pounced at me. I ducked, and slid under her before quickly getting up. I grabbed her shoulder and threw my fist into her back. A nauseating crunch crackled from her spine and my eyes widened. "Oh my God," I mumbled to myself as she let out a roar of pain, falling to the floor. "I'm so sorry!" I squeaked before smacked my palm into my forehead. Why the hell did I say that? My thoughts came to a halt when Kali pulled herself from the ground. She turned around and I was shocked to see she was even angrier than she was before. Shit. How is that even possible? She sprinted at me, tackling me to the ground.
My head, once more, rammed into the floor. My eyes widened. I couldn't hear anything except a high pitch ringing and I could barely get any breath into my lungs due to the fall but the fact that Kali was sitting on me and had a hand wrapped around my throat didn't help. I shook my head and my vision came into focus just as Kali brought a lengthy clawed hand into my chest. I screamed out in pain as they dug through me, leaving a burning path as they went. I squirmed under her grip. My wings flailed, trying to hit her. She rolled her eyes and my feeble attempts before bringing her talons back to my skin. I felt my body getting weaker with every second her hand constricted my breathing. Before long, I could no longer move my wings and she smiled, smacking my cheek patronisingly. "That a girl." She cooed mockingly, loosening her grip on my throat ever so slightly. Enough so that I wouldn't pass out or die but not enough for me to be remotely comfortable with the amount of oxygen I was receiving. The rest of the group (Isaac, Scott, Derek, Boyd and Cora) had all been beaten as well. Boyd fell to the floor, coughing up blood.
"Kill him." Deucalion ordered. I squirmed in Kali's grip again and she slowly slid her nails into my stomach. I clenched my eyes closed and groaned in pain.
"Uh, uh, uh." She tsked.
"The others can go." He finished. He began making his way down stairs when he noticed Derek didn't move. "You're beaten. Do it, Derek. Take the first step." Deucalion egged him on and I shook my head, making Kali tighten her hold.
"Are we serious with this kid?" Kali said, "Look at him." She looked him up and down in a look that mirrored disgust. "He's an Alpha? To what? A couple of useless teenagers?"
"Some have more promise than others." Deucalion told her.
"Let him rise to the occasion then. What'll it be, Derek? Pack or family?" Ennis pressed his foot harder onto Cora's chest, making her let out a yelp.
We all stayed in a tense silence as Derek looked around the room. The silence was broken was an arrow whizzing through the room. I tilted my head and saw the familiar outline of one of my best friends on the second floor. Allison. I thought in relief. The arrow hit Ethan and Aiden. They fell to the ground and the twins instead of the hulking Alpha they were before. Another came in, coming close to hitting Kali. She screamed, jumping back from me and I turned my face away from the bright arrow.
"Your eyes... cover your eyes!" Deucalion shouted to his pack.
I scrambled up, stumbling towards Scott and Isaac before I finally found my footing with help from latter.
Ennis turned and roared at Scott who growled back. He began advancing and Scott ran to him, meeting each other half way as their bodies slammed together with a loud crash. Both fell. Scott slid backwards with one knee resting on the ground besides his foot and his hand helped to stabilise him and I swear, for a moment, his eyes glowed a bright, marvellous red.
Derek came at Ennis from behind. The two fought, swinging, scratching and missing. With each step they took, they got closer to the edge. I clambered over to them, not caring about any aches or pains, with Isaac trailing behind me. Scott was also making his way towards them. Ennis smashed his forehead against Derek's. Scott reached them just before me, swiping his claws at Ennis' leg as he fell. Derek turned him and tried to push him back. Ennis fell, but kept a tight grip on Derek.
"No!" I screamed, reaching a hand out. Time seemed to slow as Derek stretched his out, our fingers brushed for a moment, our eyes locking. Emotions streamed through them, conveying everything we felt in that singular split second. Hands wrapped around my waist and it was only then that I realised that I too, was on the very edge. My toes hanging over the ledge as I leant forward. I was pulled back, my hair flying in front of my face as I watching Derek fall. I was tugged back further and couldn't see him, but the sound of a booming crash ringing though the building was enough for me to know that he was gone.
That I was never going to see him again.

"Der-bear!" A tiny girl auburn-haired called to the teen. She had on a red and white dress with white socks and black Mary Jane's. He turned to her with a grin.
"Hi, Angel!" He called back, kneeling down with open arms. The girl ran as fast as her little legs could carry her into the young Hale's arms. He picked her up and swirled her around before resting her on his hip.
"Hi, Derek." The blonde woman greeted. "How's Talia and the rest of your family?"
"They're good." He replied with a smile.
"Mummy!" The girl interrupted. Her mother smiled lovingly at her. Sine she lost her husband, the child in Derek Hale's arms was all she had left.
"Yes, my sweet little Briar-Rose?" The girl giggled at the nickname and began bouncing in Derek's arms.
"I'm hungry!"
"How about I make you and Derek some cookies while you guys build a fort? Does that sound good, Aurora?" Pip felt warmth spread through her as her child's eyes lit up.
"Yes please!" She begged. Xanthippe got to baking whilst Derek took Aurora through the huge house before they came to the living room. Derek made the fort quickly and effortlessly due to the amount of times he'd done the same thing.
Rori excitedly crawled into the small space. Blankets and pillows were strewn about which left the floor to feel like she was crawling on clouds. Derek made his way in after her with a remote in his hand. He plonked himself down behind her. Rori crawled into his lap and he leant back against a seat. "What do you wanna watch?" He asked her.
"Peter Pan! No, wait." She pressed a chubby finger to her chin in thought. "Pete's Dragon! No...Sleeping Beauty!" She confirmed herself with a nod. Derek raised an eyebrow.
"Narcissist." He coughed under his breath jokingly. The toddler just stared at him.
"I don't know what narsisis is." She told him and he laughed.
"You don't need to know." The girl was obviously satisfied with this answer as she curled into him as the movie began to play.

"Hey," fingers clicked in front of me. I jumped and turned to see Isaac staring at me concerned, Boyd by his side with a similar expression. "You okay?" They asked and I nodded, giving them a tiny smile as I subconsciously traced the cuts on my chest and stomach. They were healing thankfully, but slowly. Very slowly.
"I'm fine." I told them and Boyd rolled his eyes.
"Everyone who says that they're 'fine' are not normally fine." He stared at me. "You lost someone important to you, Rori. It's okay not to be okay." I smiled at him and thanked him as Coach blew his whistle.
"Alright!" He called. "Everyone on the bus!" The team began to clamber aboard when I noticed a particular pair of people.
"You guys go on, I just need to see something." I told Isaac and Boyd who were waiting for me to get on the bus. They raised their eyebrows but didn't argue as they entered the bus with the rest of the team. I turned and looked at Allison and Lydia who were chatting next to Allison's car, not having seen me. I tilted my head at them wondering why they were there.
Just as I was about to take a step towards them, the Coach yelled out, "Carter!" I jumped and turned to see him standing in the doorway of the bus, noticing that I was the only person who wasn't on the vehicle. "Hop on." I walked over to him. As I was getting on, he grabbed my arm gently. "You okay? It's not Stilinski is it?" He whispered and I sent him a genuine smile, touched that he had noticed anything and was concerned enough to ask.
"I'm fine, Coach. Just didn't sleep well last night is all." I lied and he nodded before clearing his throat and letting me go.
"Can't let that happen again," He said, reverting back into his quirky and strict self. "We need ya out there, Carter." I nodded and walked forward before noticing I had two choices. Sit in front of Isaac and Boyd who sat closer to the front of the bus or in the seat in front of Stiles and Scott who sat at the back. "Just sit at the back, Aurora." The Coach said, noticing my dilemma. I did as I was asked and walked to the back. I slumped into the seat and spread myself out with my legs pulled up and my head resting against the window. The bus started and we were off.
...
I noticed Scott was trying to stay conscious. "Scott?" I put my hand on his shoulder and shook him slightly. His eyes opened.
"You still with me?" Stiles asked (a/n: he is but Rori ain't! Slam dunk!) he'd been testing Scott on his vocab for a while now.
"Yeah, sorry." He apologised. "Uh, what's the word?"
"Anachronism." Stiles repeated.
"Something that exists out of its normal time." Scott answered.
"Nice." Stiles praised. "Okay, next word...incongruous."
"Um, can you use it in a sentence?" He asked.
"Yes. Yes, I can." Stiles began. "It's completely incongruous that we're sitting on a bus right now, on our way to some stupid cross-country meet after what just happened...incongruous." I closed my eyes, leaning my head against the seat tiredly.
"Out of place, ridiculous, absurd." Scott replied.
"Perfect. Okay, next word. Um, Darach. Darach, it's a noun." Scott and I both looked up at him unamused. "We have to talk about it sometime, okay? And we're gonna be stuck in this thing for, like, five hours, so why not?"
"Because we all almost died last night and one of us did die. So, forgive us for not wanting to talk about it when we're like this." I said roughly, but as I heard him sigh, guilt trickled to my heart. I didn't mean to snap at him. I was just so tired, sore and stressed. I looked up and noticed his deep brown eyes staring back into mine. He snapped out of it and flicked his finger over the ipad and I closed my eyes again. "Next word...Intransigent."
"Stubborn, obstinate." The bus started bumping around. I pinched my eyebrows in pain but it mustn't have been anywhere near the pain Scott was feeling as he let out a yelp.
"You know what?" He looked in between our pained faces. "We shouldn't have come. I knew it. We shouldn't have come." He said, speaking like a middle aged mother on a road trip.
"We had to." Scott told him "There's safety in numbers."
"Yeah, well, there's also death in numbers, okay?" He replied. " It's called a massacre...or bloodbath, carnage, slaughter, butchery, wow, that's-" He listed from the app until Scott let out a small groan. "All right, you two, I'm telling coach that..."
"No. No, no, no." Scott denied as Stiles went to stand. "I'm alright."
Stiles then turned to me and I sighed, "I'm fine, Stiles. It's Scott we should be concerned about-"
"Your wounds haven't healed yet, either." He raised an eyebrow.
"I'm not a werewolf so that might be why it takes longer." I shrugged. "I'm okay. Really." I assured him and he rubbed his hand through his hair before he turned back to Scott.
"Would you just let me see it?" He tried to move the shirt but Scott jumped back.
"I'm okay." He lied.
"Just let me see it, okay?"
"Okay." Scott lifted his shirt and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Oh, Scott." I whispered in sympathy.
"I know it's bad, but it's because they're from an Alpha. It'll take longer to heal." I nodded in agreement.
"How come Boyd and Isaac are fine then?" He asked but Scott didn't answer, resting his head back against the windows.
"I can't believe he's dead. I can't believe Derek's dead." We sighed and turned away from Scott who closed his eyes again.
"Let's see yours then." Stiles said, looking towards me.
"What?" I asked and he nodded to my chest. "Stiles, I'm not taking my top off-"
"I've see you without your top on lots of times." He said with a smirk.
"Fine." I sighed with a roll of my eyes and unzipped my jacket. I opened it inconspicuously and showed him the markings on my chest. I saw his Adam's apple bob and him blink a couple of times. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
"Don't get a boner on the bus." I teased.
"Pfft. I-I'm not." He cleared his throated before inspecting my chest again, this time he was actually looking at the wounds and not my boobs. His brow furrowed. "Are you sure you're healing?"
"Positive." I told him and zipped my jacket up again. "It was a lot worse last night."
"Really?" He asked in surprise and I nodded.
"Yeah. But like Scott said, it's from an Alpha so it takes longer to heal."
"Plus the fact that you're an angel." He added.
"Yep. It just hurts a bit." I shrugged and put my head on the window as I faced Stiles. We stared at each other, his eyes digging into my soul.
"How're you feeling?" He asked and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"I just told you-"
"I mean, about Derek." My eyes darted away from his and into my lap instead. I heard Stiles lean forward and when I looked up he had leant far forward enough so he could rest his head in his hands which held onto the bar at the top of my seat. "Scott told me about it. About you almost falling as well, if it wasn't for Isaac." He took a deep breath. "I'm sorry about what happened. But, I'm glad you didn't go down, too. I don't know what I would have done if you did."
"Thank you, Stiles." I told him simply, but my words were thick with meaning.
A/N:
Guess who's struggling with this?? #ME
Rori is so lame - she apologised to Kali like?? why???
QUESTION: Do you think Rori qualifies and Derek's pack or family?
I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BABIES (that's a lil lie, I did child development and developmental psychology) BUT STILL I DON'T UNDERSTAND THEM SO I PROBABLY GOT BABY AURORA WRONG - MY BAD
Yes. I did imply that Stiles and Rori have gone at it more than once ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) I of course didn't write that cause I'm a horrendously awkward human being :) :) :) also it was very weird to write boobs + boner im ngl.
Also did you guys notice Stori was getting a bit closer? ;) ;) sOME HOPE FOR ALL YOU STORI SHIPPERS
