Chapter 3

I watched from the side lines as the boys (Stiles, Scott and Derek) filled up a metal tub with ice. Since, Derek and Peter couldn't get any information from Isaac, we decided to go to Deaton instead.

"Obviously, it's not going to be particularly...comfortable." Deaton told Isaac as they watched the ice go in. "But if we can slow your heart rate down enough, you'll slip into a trance-like state."

"Like being hypnotised." Isaac said as the ice stopped going in.

"Exactly." Deaton agreed. "You'll be half transformed. It'll let us access your subconscious mind." Isaac bobbed down and leant his arms the tub nervously.

"How slow does his heart rate need to be?" Scott asked.

"Very slow." Deaton replied vaguely. I moved towards Isaac to rub his shoulder comfortingly.

"How slow is 'very slow'?" I asked, concerned.

"Nearly dead." Deaton replied somewhat casually. My head snapped from the water to him. Isaac let his hand touch the water before quickly drawing back with a hiss

"N-Nearly dead?" I questioned and Deaton nodded. "Are you sure that's safe? Will Isaac be okay?" I asked worriedly. Two of my friends were already missing I didn't want to risk losing a third. What I didn't know was that Stiles was glaring at Isaac, jealous of my concern for him.

"Do you want me to answer honestly?" Deaton asked.

"No. No, not really." Isaac replied quietly.

I frowned in confusion at the sound of rubber being snapped back. I looked up to see Stiles putting on a rubber glove that went past his elbow. "What?" He questioned once he realised that everyone was staring at him he turned to me. I shook my head slightly and he sighed before tearing the glove off his hand.

Isaac stood and blew out an anxious breath. I put my hand on his chest and he looked down at me. "Isaac, you don't have to do this." I reassured him. "None of us would blame you. This is a huge risk and in all honestly I'm not so sure you should take it." Derek and Scott nodded. He sighed and took his shirt off. I squeaked in surprise and didn't know where to look. He winked at me which cause a blush to rise onto my face. I heard Stiles basically growl across the room but everyone ignored it.

He stepped into the tub and like Scott, I whipped my jacket off and then proceeded to quickly tie my hair up into a messy ponytail. I stood at the head of the tub. Scott was to my right, Deaton was next to him, Stiles stood at the foot and Derek was to my left. Isaac sat down, letting our short gasps as the freezing temperature. Derek and Scott and I put our hands on his shoulders. When Deaton gave the signal, we pushed him under water.

Isaac sprung up, letting out a mighty growl. His eyes glowed golden and his teeth were sharp. "Get him back under." Deaton ordered and we pushed him back down under the water. I cringed, it felt like I was drowning him as he thrashed under the water.

"Hold him." Deaton said as Isaac once more came up.

"We're trying!" Derek shouted as we pushed him back under. Isaac continued to thrash until he slowly stopped.

We all loosened our grips on him and he gradually floated back up. "Rori, can you please support his head?" I nodded and my hands gently held the back of the blonde boy's head so he didn't go back under. Deaton held a finger up, gesturing for no one to talk. "Now, remember, only I talk to him. Too many voices will confuse him and draw him out." Deaton told us and we all nodded. He leant down, closer to the tub. "Isaac? Can you hear me?"

"Yes." Isaac confirmed, his eyes still closed. "I can hear you."

"This is Dr. Deaton." He said softly, "I'd like to ask you a few questions. Is that all right?

"Yes." Isaac said with a slight nod.

"I want to ask you about the night you found Erica and Boyd." Deaton told him as thunder cracked outside. I cringed. Stiles' head snapped to mine, knowing I was afraid of storms. "I want you to remember it for me in as vivid detail as possible, like you're actually there again."

Isaac stirred, drawing my attention away from the storm. "I-I don't wanna do that." He protested and the lights flickered as the storm kept going. "I don't...I don't wanna do that. I don't wanna do that." I massaged my fingers into his scalp and neck, knowing that Stiles liked it when he was stressed, or even just generally.

"It's all right." Deaton tried to reassure the boy.

"I don't wanna do that." Isaac repeated, slightly more calm.

"Relax. Relax." Isaac stilled. "Good. Now let's go back to that night. To the place you found Erica and Boyd. Can you tell me what you see? Is there some kind of building? A house?"

"It's not...it's not a house. It's stone." Isaac shivered. "I think marble."

"That's perfect." Deaton praised. "Can you give me any other descriptors?"

"It's dusty, so empty." Isaac said.

"Like an abandoned building?" Deaton suggested. "Isaac?" The lights began to flicker again. The lightning stuck and I tried to calm myself down, trying to shake off some fear, knowing that I needed to help. "Isaac?"

"Someone's here." Isaac began to panic again, flailing. I moved a hand to his shoulder. He grabbed my wrist tightly, clinging on for dear life. Stiles' eyes narrowed slightly. "Someone's here."

"Isaac, relax." Deaton comforted but it did nothing to effect Isaac.

"No, no, no, they see me, they see me!" Isaac shifted erratically before he screamed.

"Just memories. You won't be hurt by your memories." Isaac managed to calm down a bit. Just relax. Relax." Isaac's grip loosened and slipped from my wrist but kept a firm grip on my hand. "Good. Now tell us what you see. Tell us everything." It was a few moments before Isaac spoke again.

"I hear him." Isaac said, opening his blue eyes. "He's talking about the full moon, about being out of control when the moon rises."

"Is he talking to Erica?" Deaton inquired as the lights kept going off then coming back on again.

"I think so, I can't...I can't see her, I ca...I can't...I can't see either of them."

"Can you hear anything else?"

"They're worried." Isaac stated. "They're worried what they'll do during the moon. They're...worried that they're gonna hurt each other."

"If they're locked in together on the full moon, they're gonna tear each other apart." Derek said quietly, looking around at us. Deaton nodded.

"Isaac, we need to find them right now." Deaton told him calmly. "Can you see them?"

"No."

"Do you know what kind of room it is?" The lights kept flickering. "Is there any kind of a marker? A number on a door? A sign?" Isaac sprung up with a gasp, still holding my hand which meant I stumbled forward, my chest touching Isaac's back.

"They're here." Isaac leant backwards, tugging my arm around him, trying to get as much comfort as possible as he leant back into the water. " They...They..."

"Just tell us-"

"They see me. They found me. They're here!" Isaac shouted.

"This isn't working." Derek muttered. "Isaac, where are you?"

"I can't see them. It's too dark!"

"Isaac, where are you? Just tell me where you are."

"Derek!" I shouted and he ignored me.

"His heart rate...he could go into shock." Deaton said.

"Derek, stop!" Scott demanded.

"Isaac, where are you? What did you see?"

"A vault! It's a bank vault!" Isaac yelled with wide eyes as he lurched forward again, still not letting go of my hand. "I saw it!" He came back to his senses. "I saw the name." I tugged on his hand and he stood, climbing out. I immediately slipped from his grasp, grabbing a towel. I got on my tip-toes and wrapped it around his shoulders as Deaton and Scott wrapped another around him. I ran my hands quickly up and down his arms and he sighed in appreciation. "It's, uh...B-beacon Hills First National Bank. It's, um...it's an abandoned bank, and they're keeping them locked inside, inside the vault." When he noticed the sombre expression on everyone's faces he questioned, "What?"

"You don't remember what you said right before you came out of it, do you?" Stiles asked.

"No." Isaac answered with a shake of his head.

"You said when they captured you that they dragged you into a room and that there was a body in it."

"What body?" He asked.

"Erica." Stiles answered. "You said it was Erica."

...

"She's not dead." Derek denied angrily. I sighed as I leant against Isaac's legs. He sat on the benches with his shirt back on and his legs in front of him.

"Derek, he said, 'there's a dead body. It's Erica.'" Stiles quoted Isaac from beside me. "Doesn't exactly leave us much room for interpretation."

"He's right, Derek." I agreed sadly with Stiles. "As much as I'd hate to believe it, she's probably dead." I finished with a whisper.

"Then who was in the vault with Boyd?" Derek asked.

"Someone else, obviously." Stiles replied with a small shrug.

"And maybe it was the girl on the motorcycle. Okay," Scott suggested then turned to Isaac, "The one who saved you?"

"No, she wasn't like us." Isaac said. "And whoever was in the vault with Boyd was."

"What if that's how Erica died?" Stiles proposed. "They, like, pit them against each other during the full moons and see which one survives."

"It's like werewolf Thunderdome." Stiles and I commented at the same time, thinking back to when we curled up next to each other one night. The Sheriff was working and we'd decided to watch Mad Max together, occasionally sharing a kiss and I ended up falling asleep on Stiles' shoulder half way through the movie.

"Then we get them out tonight." Derek said, determinedly, knocking Stiles and I from our reveries.

"Be smart about this, Derek." Deaton said. "You can't just go storming in."

"If Isaac got in, then so can we." Derek responded.

"But he didn't get through a vault door, did he?" Deaton quipped.

"We need a plan." Scott told us and I nodded in agreement.

"Scott's right." I said. "If we don't have a plan everything's going to go pear-shaped really quickly."

"How are we gonna come up with a plan to break into a bank vault in less than 24 hours?" I frowned at Derek's harsh tone.

"Uh, I think someone already did." Stiles interrupted, looking at his phone. "'Beacon Hills First National Bank closes its doors three months after vault robbery.' Doesn't say here how it was robbed, but it probably won't take long to find out."

"How long?" Derek asked.

"It's the Internet, Derek." Stiles scoffed. "Okay? Minutes."

...

"So mystery girl leaves a bruise on our arms that turns out to be the logo for a bank?" Lydia listed off as we got out of Allison's car. "What's she trying to do? Give us investment advice?" She mocked as she closed the door.

"Not at this bank." Allison said, closing her own door. "It's been closed for years." We stood by her boot as she tied up her jacket.

"Why aren't you telling Scott?" I asked.

"Because according to someone, I need to find something real." She opened her boot to get her bag and I caught a quick glance of some bolt cutters before she closed it again. I brushed it off a something of her dads. "Which reminds me, um, I can't drive you two home today. I have an errand to run after school." I nodded as we climbed the stairs into the school.

"Rori!" I heard someone shout. I spun around to see Scott was the one who called me and he stood by Stiles' jeep, with the boy in question by his side. I turned back to Allison and Lydia.

"Hey, I'll catch you guys later, okay?" Lydia's eyes flickered over to Stiles and she narrowed her gaze at him.

"You gonna be okay?" She asked and I nodded.

"I'll be fine, Lyd."

"Alright." She gave in with a sigh. "I'll see you later." She turned and walked off with Allison. I trotted down the stairs to Scott, sparing the pair a small smile.

"What's up?" I asked.

"We wanted to let you know that we'll be meeting at Derek's at 5:00 to go over the plan, and then we don't get started until dark."

"Sounds good." I agreed.

"What'll we do until then?" Stiles asked.

"What, right now? We've got English." Scott answered as we walked into the school.
