Chapter 5

Episode 2 ~ Second Chance at First Line ~ Part 1

“Turns out, the hunter who shot Scott is actually Allison’s father.” My eyes widened. So not only are there hunters, one of them is Allison’s father.

“Are hunters interested in angels?” Stiles asked softly and I nodded, gulping.

“The wings.” I told him bluntly, staring at the ground. “They hold so much power. It’s said that your wings being taken from you is the most painful thing anyone can ever experience.” He looked at me protectively.

“I won’t let anyone hurt you.” He said firmly and I smiled softly at him.

“Thank you.” I whispered and we started into each others eyes.

“You!” I heard someone call and I jumped before looking at coach who had his finger pointed at me. I pointed to myself and looked around. I then mouthed ‘me?’ he rolled his eyes and stalked towards me. I leaned back and crossed my arms. “What are you doing?” I looked down at the seat and back up at him.

“Currently?” I asked and he just stared at me. “I’m sitting on a bench.”

“Really?” He asked sarcastically.

“Umm...is that a trick question?” I saw Stiles struggling to hold in his laughter.

“Get up to the bleachers!” He pointed to the bench.

“But it’s boring up there!” I whined and he rolled his eyes.

“Then don’t come to training.”

“But I have to.”

“Just get up to the bleachers!”

“No.” I said firmly.

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No-”

“Oh my god, fine! Just shut up! You'll have to work for me though!” He then stalked away from us and I turned to Stiles smirking.

“Now you won’t be lonely.” I told him and nudged my shoulder against his.

“You submitted yourself to slavery just so I won’t be lonely?” He then put his hand on his heart. “I’m so touched.” I laughed and the coach called everyone in for warm ups.

“Make me proud!” I called to Stiles, who tipped his helmet at me and I to chuckled.

I watched as Jackson and Scott slammed into each other, causing Scott to fall to the floor and me to cringe. I listened in to Scott and the coach’s conversation.

“My - my grandmother can move faster than that. And she's dead. You think you can move faster than the - lifeless corpse of my dead grandmother?” I glared at the back of the coach’s head at his attempt to wind Scott up.

“Yes, coach.

“I can't hear you.”

“Yes, coach.”

“Then do it again.” He said to Scott then directed what he said next to everyone. “McCall's gonna do it again! McCall's gonna do it again! Let's go!” This time, Scott ran at Jackson and knocked straight through him. Scott then clutched his head and fell to his knees then with the rest of his body lying on the groun. I was up on my feet in no time, running to Scott with Stiles.

“I can’t control it. It’s happening.” He grunted to us and I looked at Stiles over Scott’s back scared.

“What? Right here? Now? Come on, get up. Come on. Come on.” We ran to the boys locker room.

“Come on, here we go. There. That's it. You okay? Scott, you okay?” Stiles was mumbling.

“Get away from me!” Scott screamed, eyes glowing, teeth bared and nails growing.

“Get back, Stiles.” I pushed him back and let my eyes glow light golden. My hair flew around my face as if there was a strong wind and I started to glow a slight golden. Scott jumped up onto the tops of the lockers. I pulled myself up onto them quickly before I grabbed the front of his shirt and slammed him into the lockers, leaving a slight dent in them. I pressed two fingers to his forehead in the hope that I could use my powers to knock him out, but it didn’t work. Instead he grabbed my throat and threw me across the room, my head crashing against the edge of one. I watched as Stiles ran around aimlessly.

“Stiles!” I called getting his attention. “The fire extinguisher!” He turned and picked it up, spraying it the young wolfs face. He flew back with me next to him, we then ran out of the room and leant on the wall.

“Stiles? Rori?” We peaked in, panting. “What happened?” I sighed relieved, my hair fell back to my shoulders, the glow in my eyes and my body stopped glowing. Stiles dropped the fire extinguisher and tore off his gloves.

“You tried to kill us. You didn’t hurt me, but you did hurt her.” He pointed at me and I waved him off. “Threw her into a wall.” He glared at him slightly and I put a hand on his shoulder.

“I’m fine, I heal.” I whispered to him and he relaxed under my touch.

“It's like Stiles told you before. It's the anger. It's your pulse rising. It's a trigger.” I told him and crouched in front of him, Stiles following my lead.

“But that's lacrosse. It's a pretty violent game, if you hadn't noticed.” He told me and glanced at Stiles.

“Well, it's gonna be a lot more violent if you end up killing someone on the field.” He told Scott.

“You can't play Saturday. You're gonna have to get out of the game.” I told him quietly and Stiles nodded. I hated that he couldn’t do something he’s waited for most a lot of his life. It left a bitter taste in my mouth as I said this so him.

“I'm first line.” He said devastated.

“Not anymore.” Stiles looked up at Scott.

I followed Stiles into the kitchen, I dropped my satchel and pulled myself up to sit on one of the counters, crossing my ankles.

“What do you want?” He asked as he opened the panty. I shrugged and watched him shuffle around in it.

“What do you have?”

“Chips, smarties, skittles-”

“I thought you had your dad on a super healthy diet.” I interrupted.

“I do. He just doesn’t know about this.” He said with a smirk and I laughed.

“So, what’ll it be?” He asked and I pressed a finger to my chin.

“Hmm...Smarties.” I told him. He chucked the bag over to me, putting the chips back, keeping the skittles. I hopped off the counter, picking up my bag and followed him to his room. He opened the door and flopped onto his office chair and I flopped onto his bed. Opening my school bag and bag of smarties. I splayed out my books and stared at them for a few seconds in confusion before popping several smarties into my mouth. I looked up at Stiles who looked up at me at the exact same time, we started at each other for a moment before he spoke.

“Do you wanna video call, Scott.” I nodded eagerly.

“Anything beats physics.” I slammed my book closed and hopped up next to him. I looked around for another chair.

“Stiles? Do you have another chair?” He swung his head side to side, searching the room for the furniture before he shook his head.

“No, sorry. Do you want to sit he-” I interrupted before he could finished his sentence.

“It’s fine.” I told him and sat in his lap. I heard him gasp and his heart rate speed up. I smirked and grabbed the mouse out of his hand. I clicked the call button on skype, by now, Stiles was back to his usual self, only with red, splotchy cheeks.

“Oh, hey Rori.” I grinned and waved.

“Hi Scott!”

“Where’s Stiles?” He asked confused.

“Here!” Stiles called, poking his head me to look at Scott. I looked in the corner of the screen and watched as Stiles mouthed ‘oh my god.’ to him over and over again. I turned to Stiles and raised an eyebrow.

“You know, I can see you.” I said with a smirk. His eyes widened almost comically before he turned back to Scott, clearing his throat.

“You were saying Scott.” He said, obviously trying to change the topic. I chuckled and Scott smirked.

“What'd you find out?”

“Unfortunately, or fortunately...really depends on how you look at it and who you ask. Anyway, Jackson's got a separated shoulder.” I told him.

“Because of me?” Scott asked.

“Because he's a tool.” Stiles said and I punched his shoulder. “Hey!” He cried. “Just because you’re friends with him-” He began bitterly and I rolled my eyes.

“Not friends, acquaintances.” I corrected.

“But is he gonna play?” Scott asked.

“Well, they don't know yet. Now they're just counting on you for Saturday.” Scott shook his head but I was more focused on something behind him. I nudged Stiles in the shoulder, his attention turned to me and I leant in close, my lips near his hear.

“I think there’s someone behind Scott.” He shivered, but once the words sank he turned from me and leant in to look at the screen.

“What?” Scott asked when he noticed we weren’t looking at him. Stiles and I both looked at him before Stiles began typing. ‘It looks like someone’s behind you.’ After Scott read the message out, he was pulled back and pressed into the wall. I glanced at Stiles before disappearing. I reappeared in the McCall house not moments later. I rushed around the bottom floor, hoping to find Scott’s bedroom. After a few seconds of searching, I finally found it. I saw Derek Hale, the man from the woods there, holding Scott to the wall.

“If you even try to play in that game on Saturday - I'm gonna kill you myse-” I pulled the Hale man off of Scott. He stared at me in shock before taking in my glowing Aura and eyes.

“Angel?” He question, confused before I punched him in the jaw, hissing in pain as I felt several bones in my hand break. His head snapped to the side and I then kicked him in the chest and he went stumbling back. He picked himself up and stared at me angrily before retreating out of the door.

“Son of a-” I cut myself off and began passing Scott’ bedroom, shaking my hand as if I could shake the pain out.

“You ok, Scott?” I asked, panting.

“Yeah, fine.” He said and shook his head. “Thank you. For helping me.” He told me nervously.

“Not a problem.” I said with a pained grin. “Allison forgive you yet?” He nodded. “Good. I covered for you, told her you were feeling sick.” He chuckled. “Anyway, I’m gonna go get my stuff from Stiles’ and then go home and sleep. He nodded.

“Goodnight.” He told me. “You might want to put ice on that.” I shrugged

“Eh, it’ll heal. Don’t let the bedbugs bite.” I flashed out and back into Stiles’ house. I ran up the stairs to his room. He stood up immediately and rushed over to me.

“You ok?” I nodded and smiled.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I then put my hand in front of his face and flexed it. “See? Just a little tired is all. I’m not used to using my powers so much. I’ve probably used it more this when than I have in the last six months.” I told him and he chucked.

“That makes sense. Do you want me to drive you home?” I nodded.

“If that’s ok with you.”

“I’d love to.” He told me with a grin and I smiled.

Stiles walked me up to my door, I turned and grinned up to him. In my heels, the top of my head reached Stiles’ nose. When I was on flat feet, the top of my head reached his chin.

“Thanks for driving me Stiles. I know it’s pretty late, sorry you had to drop me off.”

“It’s not a problem. Anytime.” I smiled. We stood in front of each other for a moment before I put a hand on his cheek, standing on my tiptoes. I let my lips fall on the corner of his mouth. I pulled back quickly, blushing, pressing my hands to my cheeks and chuckling nervously.

“I’m just going to go inside.” I said and moved to the door, pressing my hand against the cool metal of the doorknob. I looked back at Stiles who was staring into space. I chuckled and slipped into the door, heading to my bedroom.

I blinked out of my daze when I heard a door close. My head snapped to the door. Did that really just happen? Did a really attractive, popular, gorgeous, funny, geeky girl just kiss me? Was that considered a kiss? I walked down the driveway and flung my fist in the air. I jumped into the jeep and fished my phone out of my pocket quickly.

“Stiles?”

“Scott! Hey, how are you doing?” I asked cheerfully.

“I’m ok?”

“Good! Because I’m doing great.” I told him with a grin, putting him on speakerphone as I started the car. I heard him chuckle.

“What’s got you in such a good mood?”

“Well, if you must know-”

“I must.” He interrupted.

“Maybe I’ll tell you if you don’t interrupt me.” He laughed again.

“Ok, go on.”

“You’ll never believe what just happened.” I told him happily, not quite believing it myself. “Rori just kissed me.” I heard Scott make a chocking sound.

“What?”

“You heard me.”

“Yeah, but Aurora Carter; the literal angel, the girl you’ve known for about two weeks and yet still manage to have an infatuation with her?”

“Hey!” I defended. “You’re infatuated with Allison and you’ve known her for two weeks. Also, Allison doesn’t know about the supernatural. Rori does, she’s even apart of it.”

“Well, I’m happy for you man, you deserve to be happy.”

“Thanks.” I said blissfully.

“What was it like?” He asked after a few seconds of silence and I laughed.

“What do you think they’re talking about?” Stiles asked as we watched Scott and Lydia do problems on the board whilst chatting away. I shrugged. Neither Stiles nor I had talked about or even mentioned the kiss.

“I don’t know. Probably Jackson, Lyd was pretty mad.” I told him and he nodded. I focused my hearing in on them.

“And I prefer my boyfriend, at peak performance.” I scrunched my nose up.

“What?” Stiles chuckled. I turned to him with lips puckered and twirled my hair.

“I prefer my boyfriend, at peak performance.” I said in a valley-girl accent, trying to do my best impression of Lydia. He held a hand to his mouth to stop himself from laughing in the middle of an almost silent class.

I twirled the lock around for the final time before I yanked my locker open. I had just reached to grab a book when I felt two hands around my waist, pulling me back. I spun my head around and saw Stiles attempting to pull me away from the locker.

“Stiles!” I cried trying to reach the locker door to at least get the door closed, but I just went limp in defeat and let Stiles drag me wherever he had planned. He pulled me to a corner where I saw Scott peeking his head around the wall. In curiosity, I also snuck a look from behind Scott with my hands on his shoulder to steady myself.

“What are we doing?” I asked Stiles who still had a hand on my waist, keeping my eyes on the Sheriff.

“Tell me what they’re saying.” I nodded.

“I want everyone under the age of 18 to be in their home by 9:30 p.m. We'd like to institute the curfew, effective immediately.”

“There’s a 9:30 curfew.” I told Stiles.

“Unbelievable. My dad's out looking for a rabid animal, while the jerk - off who actually killed the girl is just hangin' out, doing whatever he wants.” Stiles said.

“Well, you can't exactly tell your dad the truth about Derek.”

“Don’t give him any ideas.” I mumbled to Scott.

“We can do something.” Stiles told us and I raised an eyebrow at him.

“Like what?” Scott asked.

“Find the other half of the body.”

“Are you kidding?” I yelled after him.

“What color do you want?” Lydia asked and I shrugged. “Ok then, we’ll just go with black.” She chuckled and I smiled. She opened the bottle then grabbed my hand, setting down on her vanity. She then grabbed the brush and put strokes of the varnish on my nail. After about fifteen minutes of a conversation and a sickening smell, she had finished. I was blowing on my nails to dry them when my phone started ringing. Lydia picked it up and looked at the screen.

“Scott. Answer or decline?” She showed me the screen

“Answer.” I told her. She slid her finger over the green button and passed it to me, putting it on my shoulder so I could press it to my ear.

“Hello?”

“Hey! Um, I need your help, I found something.”

“What? Now?” I whined, wanting to spend more time with Lydia. “I’m busy at the moment Scott.

“I’m sorry, but it’s really important.” I sighed and looked at Lydia, as if asking if it was ok. She smiled and nodded at me.

“Fine! But you owe me!” I told him, hearing him exhale in relief.

“Thank you!” We hung up.

“I’m sorry Lyd-”

“Don’t worry about it!” She laughed. “I’m glad you have friends that aren’t me now.” She told me with a smirk. “Even if they are the nerds, but I didn’t expect you anywhere else.” She pinched my cheeks and I swatted them away, laughing.

“Ok, well I better go. See you later.” I told her as I walked out of the room.

“Don’t do something I wouldn’t do and remember you’re coming to the hospital with me!” She called after me.

“I’ll remember and Lydia, there aren’t a lot of things that you wouldn’t do!” I called back and only heard her laughter in response before I got out of the house a flew away. I couldn’t do it in front of Lydia because she didn’t know that Scott and Stiles knew.

I popped up next to Stiles, finding it a lot easier to fly to him than any other location, which I found weird but dismissed the thought. When he saw me appear next to him he screeched and stumbled away, causing me to burt into laughter.

“That wasn’t funny! You seriously need to warn me when you do that.” He said clutching his heart whilst standing next to me again.

“Anyway, you said you found something? What did you find? How did you find it? Where did you find it? And, yes, I've had a lot of Adderall, so-”

“I found something at Derek Hale's.”

“What did you find?” I asked.

“There's something buried there - I could smell blood.”

“That's awesome!” Stiles yelled excitedly and I nudged him in the ribs with my elbow. “I mean, that's terrible. Whose blood?” He backtracked.

“I don't know. But when we do, your dad nails Derek for the murder.” He said to Stiles and then looked at both of us. “And then you two help me figure out how to play lacrosse without changing. Because there's no way I'm not playing that game.” He said determined and Stiles grinned as we followed him out. I parted ways with them and headed back to the Martin’s house since I promised Lydia that I would go to the hospital with her.

When I got to the house, I saw Lydia waiting on the front porch with her handbag, bluetooth and keys. We both got into her car and made our way to the hospital.

Once we got there, we planted ourselves in the chairs. She got a call on her bluetooth and answered it whilst I sat there swinging my legs bored. After a few seconds, I stood up and motioned food to Lydia who nodded. I wandered down the hall looking for a vending machine. I found one and put a few coins in before pressing E4, smiling when some Reece’s fell.

I walked into the hospital with Scott at my side. I glanced around and found a door. I pointed it out to Scott.

“Okay.” Scott nodded and headed for the door.

“Good luck, I guess.” I told him as he went into the morgue. I walked down the hall of the hospital and spotted Lydia sitting down on the chair. I cringed and fell onto the reception counter but a thought popped into my head. Does this mean Aurora would be here too? I slowly made my way to Lydia. She spotted me and I began to open my mouth to speak when she interrupted me.

“Yes, Rori’s here.” She told me bluntly and looked at her nails. “She’s just getting food.” I nodded and sat down near another wall as she resumed a conversation with someone on her phone.

I walked back to where Lydia was sitting but she was now standing with Jackson, making out. I scrunched my nose up in disgust and turned only to see Stiles sitting readying a pamphlet. I plopped down next to him and he jumped slightly. I chuckled and opened the packet, offering him one of the cups. He gladly took one, shoving it into his mouth causing me to giggle. I looked up and Lydia looked at me as if to say ‘can you make your way back  home?’ I nodded and she smiled before turning and walking off with Jackson. I then looked back to Stiles who was finishing the cup happily, I then looked at what he was reading.

“Whatcha got there?” I asked, trying to contain my laughter. He looked back up at me before turning to the look at the front cover that read ‘Menstrual Cycle,’ blushing.

“Uhm...can I ask you a question?” He asked, his blush deepening

“Sure.” I replied with a smile.

“I was uh- I was wondering if you would like to-” He was suddenly interrupted by Scott who ripped the pamphlet out of Stiles’ hands.
