III- Margaret

After two days of crazy yet fun games and stories, Isla and I pack up some clothes and head to the High Angel's room. Once the guard angels open the door, we see the High Angel sitting by the fountain, eyes closed as if she were meditating. The large door slams behind us, and we stand there for a second, not sure what to do.

"At last, it is time," the High Angel says, opening her eyes. "You have everything?"

"Yep," Isla says. I nod.

"Very well. Follow me. I have something for you," she tells us, then starts towards her dais. She opens a compartment in the wall, taking something out before closing it.

"Isla, I give you the Swan Bracelet. It was mine when me and my sister ruled together." the High Angel says, slipping the bracelet over Isla's hand onto her wrist. It was a thin yet delicately carved gold chain with a swan charm on it.

"And you, Margaret, I give you the Dove Bracelet. It was my sister's." she clasps the bracelet onto my wrist. It mimicked the Swan Bracelet, but in silver with a dove charm.

"If you don't mind me asking, what do these bracelets do?" I ask.

The High Angel smiles softly at me. "That will depend on the wearer. It could give you immense power, or an unforgiving curse."

My breath caught for a second and I share a glance with Isla. Curse? Now the bracelet seemed dark and mysterious.

The High Angel must've seen our glance and smiles grimly. "Yes, I said curse. Hopefully you won't have to feel the pressure and pain of having it."

"So... When do we get our powers? I mean, I don't feel any different, and you don't see me shooting lasers out of my eyes or anything." Isla says. I chuckle

"You will get them soon. I promise," the High Angel replies. "But you must get going. This way." And with that, she turns and enters a small door. As we follow her and the door shut behind us, the only light is our softly glowing wings.

At the end of the hallway, we come to another door, and enter that one, too. Once we're inside, I look around in awe.

It's a fairly large, circular room with a tall, domed ceiling. Around the wall stand a multitude of bright, glowing doors. With a start, I realize that Isla and I must've gone through one of these when we died and that glowing door appeared in front of us.

The High Angel leads us over to a door. "This is to the Mortal Realm. Are you sure you have everything?" when we nod, she continues. "If you need to contact me, find a fountain and toss a coin in. Then say tecum loquar, angelus."

"What does that mean?" I ask. "Is it Latin?"

The High Angel shakes her head. "It means 'shall I speak with thee, angel?' But it's not Latin. It's called Old Tongue, though I can see why you might think it's Latin."

I nod in understanding. We're silent for a few seconds before the High Angel claps her hands twice and gestures to the door.

"Well, off you go," she says.

"Yep! See you!" Isla exclaims.

"Oh! I almost forgot. It is in upmost importance that you never reveal your identities as angels to anyone. You will look like humans, but make sure you don't accidentally use powers or morph back into your angel shape in front of the public."

Isla and I nod solemnly. The High Angel smiles with confidence.

"I'm sure you girls will succeed. Goodbye, for now." She hugs us both before stepping back.

"Bye!" we call back as we step into the doorway and get whisked away in a blur of light back to the Mortal Realm.
