Nineteen
All of a sudden, the person began to laugh out loud – a sound familiar to the girl. She immediately pulled the hand off her mouth and turned to face the Australian.
"Lix? What are you doing here?" She asked, giving him a hug in relief that he wasn't a kidnapper. Hyunjin blinked a couple of times, processing the situation before ripping Felix's hand off his mouth.
"Who are you?" He spat out, earning a chuckle from the other.
"I'm Lix, and you must be Hyunjin. It's nice to finally meet you, I've heard a lot."
Hyunjin gave Maya a glare.
"What?" The girl asked. "I didn't say anything."
"Liv did," Lix explained. "I'm here to help you."
"I don't need your help," the other boy answered coldly.
"Then you want to die? Wow, that's a first."
"I'm going to die either way."
"Not in prison."
"What?"
"I have connections with each of the affected families, with my help we can change your punishment from execution to what? Ten-year imprisonment?"
"You can do that?" Maya asked, eagerly.
"Yep."
"I don't know, why am I finding it hard to trust you?"Hyunjin questioned.
Lix gave him a look.
"You find it hard to trust me? I'm the one butting my head in a murderer's business." Hyunjin rolled his eye. "Look, if you don't what to go to prison at all I guess I can do something about that too."
"Really? How?" The girl obviously seemed miles more excited than the boy but he didn't mind, he was curious about what the Australian had to say.
"The police and detectives aren't going to just let the case go so someone else is going to have to take the plunge."
"I will," Maya offered.
Both boys' eyes widened.
"What? No. I won't let you do that," Jinnie told her.
"Why not?"
"Because you don't belong there."
"Neither do you."
"I committed a crime."
"Everyone has."
"Stop being so unreasonable."
"I'm not!"
"You are!"
"Guys, it's late at night and people are trying to sleep so you probably shouldn't-" Lix tried but neither listened.
"I'm trying to keep you safe!" Maya yelled.
"Why?" Hyunjin retorted.
"Because I care about you."
"Care about Seungmin and his case, help him with it."
"I don't care about Seungmin and his case."
"Yes, you do. Even more than you'll ever know."
"Jinnie-"
He suddenly took the girl's hands in his.
"I love you so, so much, Maya and that's why I'm doing this. Remember how you always say I know you better than you know yourself? Well let me tell you something you may not know about yourself, you love Seungmin and it's so obvious. I'm just a distraction to you so that's why I'll go, so you two can live happily."
"Shut up, Jinnie! You're not going anywhere! You're going to stay with me, okay?"
"Please can you two confess later?" Lix asked but was only again ignored.
"It's not okay, Maya. Why are you so stubborn?"
"Why are you so stubborn?"
"I'm trying to help you."
"If you really want to help me then don't leave me."
"Maya-"
"Fine, turn yourself in and I'll just wait until you get out."
"But-"
"I'll wait ten years for you, and if you face a life sentence then I'll wait my whole life." Jinnie noticed the tears that were streaming down her face as she spoke and feared the worst: that she was serious. "I'll wait an eternity just for you."
This is my own story and I'm cringing. I feel a reader getting irritated by the characters. Hopefully as it goes on, things will be cleared up.
