Eleven
"Hey," Maya chimed as she sat down opposite Seungmin. The boy grinned briefly at her before looking back down at his pocketbook. She watched as his nose began to crinkle and eyebrow furrow before he looked at her.
"Did Liv really not say anything when you were with her?" he asked and the girl nodded.
"She just stared at that picture. I ran out of the hospital because I couldn't stand seeing her so broken."
"I'm sorry I couldn't comfort you right then and there. I was just worried that my senior would get the wrong idea and if they did, then I would have to stop working on this case and one of them would take my place."
"It's okay, I get it." He then looked back at his book before biting his bottom lip in frustration and combing his hair with his slender fingers. "Hey, didn't I tell you not to stress yourself over this?"
"You did but...there have been many death cases recently and I'm starting to Olivia's attacker might be the murderer of all those other people."
"There are many murderers in the world, Seungmin-"
"Yeah I know but I've noticed something peculiar about the recent deaths. The places where the people have been stabbed are all identical. Look." He searched the cafeteria quickly before passing an envelope to the girl. She opened it in a circumspect manner and pulled out a dozen A4 papers.
The first paper had a template of a person and a big 'x' was drawn on the upper chest as well as two smaller ones on the neck and where the heart would be. The next three pages were the same then there was a picture of a small flint dagger.
"What's this?" Maya asked.
"The weapon used to stab all those people." The next paper had a picture of a lady on the right and her profile on the left. The other pages were the same except different people. All of them read "stabbed in the middle of the chest, at the heart and horizontally through the neck" as well as "body found at 21 Les Fleurs De la Femme Street in an alley between houses 15 and 17".
The tenth paper had another template of a person again. Everything was the same as the first four except that the red pen used to draw the 'x' was a lot fainter.
"Lalisa was stabbed in the exact same place but not as deep as the others hence she didn't die but unlike the others, she wasn't found in the alley on 21 Les Fleurs De la Femme Street but rather, right outside her house. A man found her crawling on the road while coughing viciously, trying to get enough oxygen into her lungs," Seungmin told her while looking in the distance. "The man said on the way to the hospital she kept on looking back at her house until finally she fell unconscious."
"So?" The boy finally looked at her. His gaze was intense and Maya could tell that he was a bit worried.
"Whoever stabbed her was still inside her house, Maya and from what I've gathered, Liv always locked the door whenever she entered the house. Meaning either the stabber got in the house before she got home or he or she had some sort of relationship with her for her to trust them enough to open the door."
"Or maybe she forgot to lock it that specific day."
Seungmin shook his head.
"How would the stabber have known she hadn't locked it that day? Also, you never answered my question."
"What question?"
"Was Liv acting differently before the incident."
"No."
"Then why did you run away that other time?"
"I really don't want to talk about this." Maya began to pack her things away but Seungmin pinned her wrists to the table. The girl glared at him. "Let go of me," she hissed, struggling to free herself.
"Answer me."
"No."
Seungmin wasn't dumb. He knew Liv had been acting strangely before her accident and because he knew Maya wouldn't open up about that, he talked to someone else about it: Tzuyu. He wanted her to confess to it though. He wanted her to tell him that Liv was acting as if someone was chasing her so he could confirm it and seeing the way she reacted, did exactly that.
"I know you're hiding something, Maya. I've been working on cases like this for years so don't think you can fool me. I'm going to find the person whether you agree with my methods or not, okay? I don't mean to be rude but I just thought you should know. Miss Taylor was acting weird and I will find out why just like how I'll find out what she said to you." Seungmin let go of her wrists with that and began packing his things away. "Also, you might want to stop acting as though you're innocent, you're making it worse for yourself." Then he left the girl all alone in the cafeteria while everyone stared at her.
