The Walk
As it turns out there was not an exit just down the hall. The boys did end up getting lost in the hospital and ended up finding a nurse to guide them to an exit. Now they were looking at the stars on a hill near the hospital and playing 20 questions.
"Okay, my turn, how many...languages do you know?" Jace asked laughing slightly at his own question.
"Really? What kind of question is that?" Angel asked, laughing quietly.
Jace turned his head and stared at the small boy next to him, he then remembered himself and replied: "It was the first one I could think of, now answer the question."
"Okay okay, sorry," Angel laughed again, he was doing that a lot now. "I know Latin, English,...does Sign Language count?"
"Uhm, sure."
"Okay, Latin, English, Sign Language, and Italian."
"Wow, I only know English and Sign Language," Jace said, impressed.
"You know sign?" Angel asked, sitting up to look at the larger boy.
"Yeah, but you know Latin and Sign and Italian. And English, but I'm only talking about other languages." Jace blushed at the smile Angel had on his face, he continued "Do you have any, like, Latin phrases you like or something?"
Angel hesitated just long enough for Jace to start saying "Sorry, that was a stupid question you don't ha-" "Dum spiro spero. It means: While I breathe, I hope."
"Oh. That's cool, that's really cool. Do you have any others?"
"I have a ton of them like, exigo a me non ut optimus par sim sed ut malis melior. It means: I require myself not to be equal to the best, but to be better than the bad." Angel was proud that he had remembered the exact wording, though to Jace he just seemed to be very pleased with the idea of speaking about one of the languages he knows.
Angel then pointed up at the starry sky, "The word for what we're looking at is stellimicans or stellatus. The first one means 'glittering with stars', the second one means 'starred or starry'."
Jace nodded, then said with a perfectly straight face "Some people might say that the Goddess Artemis is the noctifer, or-"
"-Or night-bringer; the evening star." Angel finished, giving Jace with a look he could only describe as wonder.
They were lying close together, only inches apart. Neither was sure what to do, neither wanted the moment to end. Angel turned his head slightly, the moonlight glinting off his eyes. The silvery light reflecting off of the grey made them look like they were mini-moons, their beauty unrivaled.
He unconsciously moved his head forward, only slightly, Angel did so too. Jace took it as a sign that he could continue. They were only centimeters apart now.
And then, "Boys! Where are you? We're allowed to go see Aishah now!"
Angel opened his eyes slowly and shouted back to Joan "Okay, we'll be in, in just a minute!"
He then leaned back in and kissed Jace on the cheek. "I'm expecting a real first kiss on our date, don't think I've forgotten about that."
Jace could only nod, he was still slightly shocked at both Angel's words and actions. But he silently vowed to take Angel on the best first date he would ever go on in his life.
