1:30am The time of the meeting with Hades
"I'm here." I said, stepping out of the shadows, that I'd been using as cover, and into the murky light that reached the park from the street lamps a few feet away. There was a chuckle from the silhouette, and my father stepped forwards. Alone.
"Where's my son!" I snapped, my right hand unconsciously floating across my body, hovering over my sword's brown leather-braided handle.
My father sneered, shaking his head once, and I was suddenly, and unhappily, struck with the fact that my father and I were very similar. Our body language was the same, our stances - at the moment, we mirrored each other, wide stance, crossed arms - our glares, our body structure in general. I had more of him in me than mom. I had mom's eye-shape, more oval, and her slender nose. I used to have her olive-skin tone too, but after Bianca's death, I became pale.
I glared harder, but to his credit, my father didn't react.
"You really think I'd give him up?"
"No!" I growled, my feathers stiffening. "Which is why I made you swear! You don't break an oath! No matter how cruel, and sly, and dishonest you were, you never broke a deal!"
Hades smirk fell, replaced by a scowl. He stepped to the side, and shoved someone forwards, sending them stumbling. "Fine, go to your dad!"
The figure whimpered, and I glared at my father. My gaze softened as I looked at the boy. "Bennie?"
"Papa!" Bennie sobbed, scrambling to his feet, and running to me. I was watching my dad, and when Bennie spoke to me, a look of shocked surprise crossed his face, followed by what looked like remorse. His features were quickly rearranged, back into the passive sneer he had before. I just hugged Bennie tighter.
"Bennie, hi. Have you grown in the past week? You're a beanstalk! Bennie, my Beanie!"
Bennie giggled, but he held me tighter. I pulled away, brushing his chocolate hair out of his eyes, and pressing a kiss to his forehead.
"And how, exactly, are you planning on getting Bennie home?" Hades smirked, and I faltered. I hadn't thought that far. Neither did I. . .
"I'll make you another deal. Let me take him home, and I'll come back. It'll take forty-five minutes at most."
Hades scoffed, and I glared. "I keep my deals." I said with finality.
Hades finally nodded. "An hour at most. And if you go over, it doesn't matter if you come back or not. I'll go after everyone."
I picked up Bennie, spreading my salt and pepper colored wings, and taking off, leaving a shimmering cloud of dust behind.
