"You didn't have to do that you know."
"Do what?" I asked innocently. We were in our living room, Bennie on the floor absorbed by the TV, Will and I cuddling on the couch, under a fuzzy blanket. Will was sitting up, and I was curled next to him, his arm around my shoulder, my head resting on him.
Will rolled his eyes. "Make out with me in front of Ms. Smith."
I pouted. "She was flirting!"
"Is someone jealous?"
"Who? Me? No! OK, yeah." I sighed, defeated, and Will laughed, pulling me into a deep kiss. I broke away, resting my head back on his shoulder.
"I love you." I murmured, moving so I could lay my head in his crossed legs.
"I love you too." Will said, and began playing with my hair.

"Papa?" Bennie spoke from his spot on the floor. He twisted to look at me, and from my position, we were nose to nose. I grinned, and poked him on the nose.
"Bennie?"
"Can you make the noodle thing?"
I laughed, nodding as I sat up.
I'd made angel hair pasta, with a pesto and basil based sauce, and sliced cherry tomatoes. I'd gotten my mom's old italian recipe book, and began to cook again. Will and Bennie had loved it.
Will whined, trying to keep me where I was. I smiled, pulling away, tossing the blanket back onto Will, walking to the kitchen to start dinner. I pulled out the recipe book, and ran around the kitchen gathering the ingredients. I plucked the basil leaves from our small plant, near one of the kitchen windows. The apartment was a corner, so it the kitchen had a window.

I filled the pot at the sink, looking through the cutout, into the living room, where Bennie was once again staring at the TV. I placed a pot on the stove, turning on the flame so it could boil, before I put in the pasta. I washed my hands, and grabbed a sharp knife from the magnet on the wall, hesitating as it glinted in the kitchen light, but ignored the phantom sting of my scar, as I grabbed a cutting board. Grabbing our glass measuring cup, I added oil and some pesto, giving it a quick stir. I lined up the basil leaves, and quickly moved down the leaf, cutting it in slices. I felt Will walk up behind me, and my wings spread as Will pressed his chest to my back, slipping his arms around my waist.
"Hi Sunshine." I said, rotating the board so I could chop the leaves into squares, instead of strips. Will didn't respond, but pressed his lips to my neck.
"Will," I complained, shrugging him off. "Can you get the cheese from the fridge?"
"Sure." Will murmured, reluctantly removing his arms from my waist. He walked to the fridge, grabbing the mozzarella log from the drawer. He walked back, placing it on the cutting board, before wrapping has arms around me again. I diced the cheese, putting the blade down, and pouring the noodles into the pot.
"Will!" I gasped, dropping the blade and gripping the edge of the counter as WIll sucked on my sweet spot. I felt him smile against me, and he chuckled. I took a deep breath, and held it, focusing on the food that needed preparing infront of me. My lungs burned for oxygen, and I breathed out in a rush, gasping for the much appreciated air. I was swung around by a frightened and confused Will.
"Did you just hold your breath?"
"Maybe." I said, drawing out my answer.
"Idiot."
"Stronzo." Was my reply. Asshole in Italian. I think-blame google translate
"What?" Will said, but I just shrugged, fighting a smirk.
"Let me finish, or no food for you." I said, bopping him on the nose, and turning around, ignoring his pout.
"Fine. But in return, I get a kiss."
I rolled my eyes, but turned and gave him a peck on the lips, before continuing to make dinner.

"Bennie! Will, dinner's ready." I called, dishing out the servings into bowls, the steam warming my always cold hands.

Will's phone buzzed, and he got up from the table. He walked into the hall, and I watched as he nodded, making noises of agreement. Suddenly he paled, and said goodbye to whoever was on the phone. He just stood for a minute, looking at his phone, before he took a deep breath and walked over.
"Hey, I have to go. Emergency surgery." He swallowed, and I got up.
"So, no story?" Bennie whined.
"I bet Papa could read you one." He kissed Bennie on the forehead, and I walked him to the door.
"Who?" I whispered, knowing that if the surgery failed, I'd be doing the autopsy.
Will took a deep breath. "Julia." He whispered, and I took a sharp breath. Julia was a twelve year old girl. She had cancer, and had a surgery scheduled for next week to remove it from her frontal lobe in her brain.
I gave him a tight hug, pressing a kiss to his cheek, before gently pushing him out the door, mentally whispering good luck.

"Papa?" Bennie whispered, and I stirred, shifting in my bed.
"Yeah?"
"Can I sleep with you?"
"Of course, come here." I murmured, and he ran, jumping onto Will's still vacant side of the bed. There was a click from outside of the room, but I ignored it, thinking it was either Will, a neighbor or my imagination.

I didn't know just how wrong I was.
