Chapter 9
[Edited]
He doesn't say anything, he simply hugs me. Mason and I aren't that close, I guess now that is going to change. Mason is a great guy yes, but Mia and I have always been closer.
"What happened Ma?" I ask him softly, I can feel his tears dripping onto my skin. At this moment, I couldn't care less that I was hugging him while in nothing but a towel.
"Mom.... said some things. I don't really want to talk about it right now." He pauses and wipes his nose with the sleeve of his shirt. "Can I stay here until we leave with Ace?" He asks and I nod. I'm surprised he still wants to be my friend after what Ace told him.
"Yes, of course! Let me go put some clothes on. You've been here before so make yourself at home." I say softly, patting his shoulder in the most caring way I could. He nods, and I make sure he sits on the couch before I go back to my room.
I can't stand how broken he is. I have to find Mia and make everything better, especially if this is all because of me.
I grab my phone before leaving my room, closing the door behind me. I can hear the tv on, he must have turned it on to distract himself.
"Hey, sorry about that, I thought you were Ace at first." I explain to him, clearing up the silence that sits between us.
He chuckles. "Are you trying to seduce him or something?" My eyes widen and I smack his arm.
"No, dumbass. I was going to tell him to fuck off until it was eight." I tell him and sit down on the couch. Mason has the strangest mind set, but it makes him who he is. He may be cocky sometimes but everyone loves his goofy personality.
"Thanks for letting me come in, I needed to get away for a bit." He says with a grateful smile. Mason is never the one to show emotion, but I don't mind. He has the right to grieve. I can see his eyes start to water and my heart begins to break for him.
"Anytime you need to come over, you are always welcome. Amelia has told both you and Mia it was okay." I tell him and he sighs.
"I don't want to feel like a burden." He rubs his neck and chews on his lip. I've noticed he does this when he is nervous.
"Mason, you will never be a burden, a pain in the ass yes, but that's just because you're my best friend." This remark makes him laugh slightly.
"Stop being so cheesy damn." I break out laughing and slap his arm again.
"I'm just trying to make you feel better stupid." I think he is glad that I'm not treating him like a lost cause. I know I hated it when people did that to me, so I don't do it to him.
We sit in a comfortable silence, having a few words spoken between the two of us while waiting on Ace. As I study Mason, I realize the backpack that is on his back. Thinking to myself, I wonder how much things he can actually fit into it.
"Are you really an angel?" The question throws me off, mainly because it was silent before the words were spoken.
"Well, if you could see my back right now, it would be easy proof." I chuckle at him. The pain in my back is nowhere near as painful as it was.
"I've always been interested in angels and that sort of stuff, but I never thought they were real until Ace told me they were. Have you seen his wings? They are insane." I giggle and nod my head.
"Yes, he showed me them because he thought it would help me believe him." I sigh. "I'm still trying to make sense of it all. It's just so surreal." Mason was about to say something but the doorbell went off, interrupting him.
"There is Ace." I say, standing up to get the door. Mason mumbles something that was too quiet for me to catch, but follows me to the door. I grab my bag that I had placed by the door after I came back from changing.
"You guys ready to go?" Is the first thing Ace says to us, and we both nod. I'm scared but ready.
