Chapter 12

[Edited]

I don't know how long we drive for, but I slept through most of it. Everything has been draining my energy recently and I hate it. Ace made it clear we aren't going to stop for anything until we get to this place he's been talking about.

"Do we have any food left?" Mason asks from the front seat. I move some things around to find the bag of snacks we picked up and hand it to him.

"How close are we?" I ask Ace and he mumbles something about Mason and I sounding like children.

"We are here, but the driveway is quite long." He replies, making me sigh in relief. Maybe I can actually sleep in a bed now with warm covers, tucked away from this hellhole.

"How long are we staying here?" Mason asks

"A few days at least. Chance will train you until he thinks you're ready."

"When you say training, what exactly do you mean?" I ask him and he chuckles.

"Well, you will for sure be sore after." He replies. I don't ask anymore questions, knowing he will never fully answer any of my questions. Ace does that a lot, it's quite annoying.

After driving down a dirt road for about ten minutes, with nothing but trees, we pull up to a small cabin. It's very beautiful, matching well with the nature around us.

"Don't be alarmed when you see him, he was caught in a nasty battle with a demon." Ace tells us, making me wonder what happened. We all get out, Mason and I staying behind while Ace knocks on the door.

"You two must be Adina and Mason." A voice from behind us says, making me turn around quickly. There stands a man. Now I understand why Ace said not to be alarmed. Half his face is burned. I couldn't imagine how bad that must have hurt.

"Don't be scared children, I'm Chance. I believe Ace told you that I will be the one training you?"

"Yes, he did. I'm Adina, it's nice to meet you." I might as well make friends with him. It may do me good later on. I reach out to give him a handshake.

"You're a sweet one, aren't you?" He chuckles, kissing the back of my hand, making me blush. Never in my life has anyone done this to me.

"I'm sure you two are hungry and tired, my wife will show you to your rooms inside." He tells us, motioning us to follow him to the house.

As he walks by Ace, he mumbles something to Ace, making him chuckle. I wonder what he said to him, because now he is genuinely smiling at me.

"Sweetheart, Ace, Adina, and Ace are here." Chance calls out. A few moments later a woman walks out. She has long, wavy blonde hair. Her green eyes are wide, making her face full. She's gorgeous.

"Welcome! I'm sorry for the mess, Ace didn't give us much time to clean up." She looks over at Ace while saying the last part. "We have dinner cooking. I'm sure you all are very hungry for an actual meal. Knowing Ace, he probably kept you two locked in the car." She says

"Oh! By the way, my name is Grace." She says with a warm smile. I look around the house from where I stand when she retreats back to the kitchen. The cabin looks small from the outside but is nothing compared to the inside.

The living room is nice, everything matches the dark furniture. The large, open windows show the beautiful landscape. I wouldn't mind living here, that's for sure.

"Ace show them to their rooms why don't you." Chance tells Ace, tapping his shoulder. Ace doesn't say anything, like usual. He simply goes down the hallway, knowing we would follow him.

I stay behind Mason, scared a demon will pop out of the darkness that follows the hallway. Ace stops at a door that sits at the very end and turns around to look at us.

"This is your room Mason, it used to be mine when I trained down here."

"You had to train? Aren't you from Heaven or whatever?" Mason asks, clearly intrigued.

"I was yes, I've been on earth for years." He answers.

If he was on earth for years, why is he just now getting a hold of me? I think to myself. This keeps getting stranger and stranger by the day.

"I will come get you when dinner is ready, for now just relax. You have a long day tomorrow." Ace tells him, then turns towards the way we came. I'm guessing to show me my room.

"Chance said because you are the girl, and the nicest he has met so far, you get the better room of the two." Ace tells me, opening the door for me to see. I didn't get a look at Mason's room, but mine is beautiful. Huge, oak furniture is placed in the room, there is a huge window, just like the ones in the living room. The bed is my favorite out of all of it.

It looks to be a king size, with a canopy over the top and sides. I walk over to the bed, leaving Ace to stand at the door. I run my fingers over the fabric, heat creeping up my neck knowing Ace is watching my every move.

I stand there, not knowing what to do next. I'm soon startled out of my thoughts about the room when I feel Ace touch my shoulder. I jump when I feel the same sparks I had felt before. I wonder if he can feel them too.

After a few moments of feeling his touch, he suddenly backed up and cleared his throat.

"I'll come back to get you for dinner." He says and turns to walk out of the room but I stop him.

"Wait, I'm not that hungry. I think I'm just going to sleep." I stop and think about what I'm about to ask him. We barely know each other, but I ask him anyways.

"Can you stay with me until I fall asleep?" I ask him, already feeling myself go red.

"If you wanted to sleep with me you could've just asked." He replies, making me even more red, if that's even possible.

I ignore his remark and I slip into bed after taking my shoes off. He soon follows, but stays on the top of the covers. This isn't the first time him and I have slept in the same bed.

I do something crazy. I move closer to him and rest my head on his chest. For once, I feel fully relaxed. I don't know what it is about him that makes me so calm, but I love it. He doesn't say anything, he doesn't move. He puts his arm around me and holds me until I fall into a deep sleep.

I see two pathways. What is going on? I look around to see where I am. It's dark and fog is making it hard to see. I look back at the pathways. They both look the same, but a different energy is coming from the right one.

"Hello?" I called out, hoping someone would call back. No one does. My vision changes. I see bones of people, blood is covering every step. I scream out when I see a crow eating the eye of a child.

It changes again. This time everything looks normal. What the fuck did I just see. I can feel myself shaking from the last place I was at. I frantically look around, not knowing what to do.

I see someone walking towards me and I yell to get their attention.

"Hey! Over here! Where are we?" They don't see me. They don't hear me.

All of a sudden, I get a huge wave of terror. I can't control my screams as I fall to my knees. Nothing is happening to me, but I feel all of this pain and horror of others.

"Adina! Wake up." Someone is shaking me, making me panic more. I scream and try to push them away from me.

"Hey, calm down. It was just a dream." I look at him, seeing his arms up so I don't hit him. I don't know what to do, so I cry. I have no control over it now, I just let everything out.

Ace moves closer to me, taking me in his arms again, letting me cry into his chest. I cry for Mia and Mason, I cry for myself, I cry for all those dead people, I cry for everything and anything.

I don't know how long I cry for, and I don't care. I just let him hold me and make me feel safe.
