34: Escaping Iego

Anakin

We got the root that was needed to make the antidote but now we were trapped in the system of a thousand moons, Iego. When we tried to get out, we almost blew up when the lasers that are adjusted to a system of protection created a web that almost got our ship. Now, we had to find a way back to Naboo to get them all out of the bunker safe and sound, but I was starting to loose my patience.

"Master, can you hear me?" Ahsoka asked, her blue hologram appeared, she seemed weak, she balanced in Lana's arms, unable to maintain her balance.

"R2, amplify the signal." I told my droid and he did as I said.

"We destroyed all the battle droids inside the compound Master, Naboo is safe from further contamination, I repeat, Naboo is safe." She began to cough, Allana looked at her, both of them had bluish bags underneath their eyes, veins made contrast against their now paler skin, Lans's hazel eyes met mine as more coughs were heard.

"He's gone." Rex voice said behind them.

"What a waste." Said Padmé.

"With all due respect Senator." Rex sighed. "It's what these men were born to do."

"I hope their sacrifice bring us closer to peace." Allana said, giving her condolences, then Snips coughed.

"It will Lana." Ahsoka said coughing more. "You must... believe that." She fainted.

"Ahsoka!" I yelled looking at the hologram and saw my Padawan fall into my wife's arms, Obi-Wan stood up.

"Promise me that no one will ever open this bunker." I remained silent as I frowned, I couldn't do that. "Goodbye Anakin...I-" She began coughing and then the transmission was lost.

"No!" I yelled and stood up as well after a couple seconds, then, I clicked the button that opened the ship and started formulating a plan. "We'll borrow a power convertor from Jaybo." I said walking down the ramp, out of the ship. "We'll reprogram it to feed our-"

"Slow down Anakin." Said Obi-Wan behind me.

"Slow down?" I asked turning around. "Slow down?! You saw them Master, they're dying!"

"A great leap forward often requires first taking two steps back."

"And sometimes all it requires is the will to jump." He was quiet, he knew that I was right on this one, the only problem as that I was being too impulsive, more than he likes.

"At least hear me out on this."

"Fine." I sighed. "What do you have in mind?"

"You'll see."

I sighed again, calming down.

We walked back and met with the citizens of the 'doomed' planet, Obi-Wan convinced them to be a part of a meeting and when they agreed, we were directed to a briefing room where we sat around a table that's in the center while everyone was waiting to hear what we have to say.

"Citizens of Iego, Drol is not a ghost, rather it is a Separatist security system." Said Obi-Wan standing up as I crossed my arm sitting by his side.

"Nonsense!" Yelled one man that'a sitting across from us. "You were lucky to escape alive, simple as that!"

"And who says we didn't make or own luck?" I asked him.

"The ghost of Drol does, that's who." He answered and pointed at me.

"Did anyone inhabit Iego's moons before the Separatists arrived?" Asked my Master.

"The angels of course." I looked down remembering Lana and begging the stars that she was fine and holding on.

"Angels?" Asked Obi-Wan as a woman walked in. Her skin glowing, covered by a hood, she's more or less how I imagined the angels to be when I heard about them in Watto's workshop all those years ago.

"We were peaceful people before the Separatists drove us from our homes and stole our moon." She commented.

"And which moon was that?" She raised her hands and made a hologram appear, impressive, then, a moon was highlighted in red.

"Millius Prime." She answered.

"The primary node." I said. "It must be near Millius Prime."

"Hmm." Thought Obi-Wan. "Vulture droids." He turned around. "Jaybo, can you reactivate those?"

"Sure." The kid that we met hours ago said. "I can even fly them by remote control." He said and I smiled, he reminds me of myself when I was younger.

"Good, we can have R2 fly the vulture droids as a decoy into the laser field." My Master commented.

"And since we know what we're up against this time, we can destroy the laser emitter." I added.

"And cut a path right to Millius Prime."

"Let's go." I said and we rushed outside and hop on the ship, we quickly sat down on our respective seats once we walked into the cockpit.

"Ready General Kenobi." Said the kid, informing us that he and his droids were already in position.

"Jaybo, activate the droids." I commanded setting everything up. "Transfer control of the droids to R2." Once my astromech beeped and let me know that he had the control I began flying the ship.

As soon as we flew past one of the asteroids the lasers activated.

"R2, intercept the lasers." Said Obi-Wan and the droid beeped. "Send the vulture droids directly into the laser generator." The droids flew right into the generator and then Obi-Wan fired at the generator as well, making it blow up, we closed our eyes because of the light the explosion emitted. We then were able to see how the rest of the asteroids blew up and how the rays stopped being emitted as well, everything blowing up behind us.

"You guys okay?" Asked Jaybothrough the communicators. "Guys?"

"We're fine kid." I said. "I'm afraid you're going to need some new droids to boss around Jaybo." I smiled. "The ones you sent us are pretty much toasted." We heard cheers on the other side of the line, my Master and I looked at each other and smiled.

"But the good news is that now you're now free to leave Iego whenever you choose." Said Obi-Wan.

"Thanks kid, we owe you one." I said.

"It was my pleasure Generals." I smiled again as he ended the communication.

"R2 set a course to Naboo." I instructed the droid who beeped in agreement and rushed to the control panel to set the coordinates.

We arrived and they made the antidote with the root that we brought from Iego in no time. It was a gas as well and after, more or less, ten minutes, —when everyone in the bunker held on to their lives as they could— the place was clean and the system was free from any further contamination.

We saw how a special team, that mostly were droids went down and got the sick ones, bringing them up in stretchers, we waited for the Gunships to arrive and take them to the medical wing of the Palace. I was standing beside Obi-Wan when I saw Padmé taking off the helmet of her suit, when her eyes met mine, she pointed at the stretcher where Lana was, I ran towards her without hesitation.

"Lana." I whispered as I stood beside her walking backwards towards the Gunship, her eyes were closed, her veins looked too purple, as well as the bags underneath her eyes. She slowly opened her honey eyes and relief flooded my body, the thought of loosing her was too much to handle. "I spoke with the medical droid, he expects you to make a full recovery." She smiled weakly.

"I never lost faith in you, none of us did." She said in almost a whisper.

"Oh, that's good to hear." I said smiling. "Cause there were a few moments where we weren't so sure of ourselves." She chuckled.

"Well, you made it, my handsome Jedi." I smiled.

"Handsome?"

"Don't let that get to your head." She said as they placed her stretched beside the entrance of the ship.

"Too late." She chuckled again but cough a little.

"By the way, your Padawan was brilliant." I smiled at her. "I trust I'll see you soon General Skywalker." She offered her hand, as if we were shaking it but I knew she just wanted to hold mine, I chuckled as her cold fingers wrapped my robotic hand.

"Of course, General Naberrie." She smiled and closed her eyes, resting as the stretcher whirred and she was placed in the ship carefully, our hands slowly let go of each other. Padmé walked past me. "Are you okay Senator?" She smiled.

"I am, thank you." She looked at her younger sister. "I'll take care of her, and I'll suggest she stays here while she recovers, it'll be better."

"I agree." I looked over my shoulder. "If you'll excuse me Milady." She nodded with a smile and hopped on the ship, holding Lana's hand, then, I walked up to my Padawan, who had the same looks than my wife. "You did a fantastic job today Snips." I told her once I had reached her side, her blue eyes looking into mine with a smirk as I saw how Rex was placed in another Gunship, along the survivor troopers.

"All thanks to your training Master." She told me.

"Yeah, you're right." I said with modesty crossing my arms over my chest.

"And Master Naberrie's."

"Maybe hers too."

"And Master Kenobi's."

"Meh, maybe his not much." She laughed. "I probably do deserve most of the credit." She rolled her eyes. "But not all of it." I added with a smile.

"Good thing I know you don't mean everything you say." She said weakly as they placed her next to Padmé and Lans.

I smiled again. "Pilot, get these three out of here."

"Thank you Master." Ahsoka said smiling as the doors closed. I raised my hand knowing they'd be able to see me through the small openings in the metallic doors, waving at them wishing them a good trip.

The Gunships began to fly away towards Theed as they were taken to safety.
