33: Doomed

Allana

"Anakin." Obi-Wan's voice sounded through my communicator. "I'm guessing you didn't capture the Doctor."

"I'm working on it." Anakin answered. "Do you have the bombs?" He asked as I looked around trying to figure out where had the Doctor went through, I placed my hand on his shoulder and pointed at the hallway that's to our right, we began to run in that direction.

"I'm working on it." Kenobi answered. "Doctor Vindi has remotely activated the bombs, they're counting down."

"That's great." I exclaimed sarcastically.

"And on top of that, one of them seems to be missing."

"Is down here somewhere." Anakin said, reaching Ahsoka through his communicator. "Ahsoka, we've got another situation, send all the clones to search the facility we've got a miss—" We almost collided with the Padawan and those troopers she was in charge.

"Master?" She said looking at us.

"We've got a missing bomb and a trigger-happy mad doctor on the loose." I chuckled at his comment.

"Missing bomb?" Asked Padmé.

"We saw Doctor Vindi give a little droid a bomb." I told them.

"You guys split up, find that droid." He left with the troopers he was in charge of, leaving Padmé, Ahsoka, Rex and his men and I there.

"You heard him, let's move." Snips said as we ran through the hallways. "It's so good to see you Smarty." I looked at her and smiled.

"Likewise kid." In that moment we reached a crossways. "Blast, uh okay, Ahsoka, Rex you go that way, Padmé and I will go over here, if someone finds that bomb, stay in position, the rest will get the bomb squad."

"Understood." Said Rex. "Let's move." Everyone began to run, we took the left side while the rest moved forward.

We ran for a while and from the corner of my eye I saw an open gate. "Wait." I whispered and she stopped her run. We walked in silently, the echo of our footsteps was the only thing that we could hear until I walked a few more steps and heard something whirring underneath the tables with blue plants on them. Padmé was closer and bent down before the place.

"Hello, there, little guy." She said. "How about you hand that over to me?" She said extending her hand but the droid scared her making a movement that made her fall backwards and yell. "He's getting away."

"I know." I rushed behind it and grabbed its leg, making it fall and drop the bomb, once it did I pulled it using the Force but the droid jumped on me so I threw it to the back and Padmé caught it, then, I turned my communicator on. "Ahsoka, we've found the last bomb."

"Stay there, I'll get the bomb squad."

"You better hurry, we're running out of time."

"I'm almost there Master." She said and we waited for a while as the beeping of the bomb just got more and more in my nerves. Soon enough she arrived with the troopers that are part of the Bomb Squad and they deactivated the bomb when it was about to go off.

"Deactivated." I breathed out realising I was holding my breath.

"Ahsoka, are you there?" Ani's voice echoed through the communicators.

"We're here Master, the bomb has been deactivated, did you find Vindi?"

"Deactivated as well." I chuckled. "Lana, are you there as well?"

"I'm here." I answered. "I'm okay, if that's what you were about to ask."

"I'm okay too, thanks for asking." Ahsoka added and I laughed.

"Is Obi-Wan there?" I asked.

"I'm here, fine as well."

"Good to know, now, listen up, we'll clean everything down here while you take Doctor Sleemo back to Theed."

"Copy that, he's already getting in the shuttle, we'll meet you there in a while." Said Anakin.

"Okay." I said and finished the communication.

"General, you should see this." A trooper called my attention, the Senator and I turned around. "It's one of the virus bombs." He handed it over for me to have a look.

"It looks like the chamber that holds the virus is missing." Padmé pointed out beside me.

"The droid must have taken it." Said Ahsoka.

"Sound the alarm." I ordered. "That thing must not get out of here." The alarm began to chime loudly all over the laboratory as I walked out to look for the droid, but in the moment I step out of the room we were in and explosion echoed around and I almost lost my balance, having to hold on to the wall. "No." I whispered as worry filled me up. The alarm blared louder, the colour red. "Virus leak, get inside!" I yelled as the doors closed before me, Padmé and I quickly got our security suits on. "Anakin, can you hear me?" I tried to communicate, no response. "Anakin!"

"Lans, I'm here." He finally said. "Are you alright? What's going on?"

"I'm fine, for now." I answered. "Padmé and I were in a safety chamber when the alarm went off, we're wearing protective suits but Ahsoka's not-"

"She's with Rex in a safe room, don't worry about her." I let a breath out of pure relief while he sighed. "The virus is loose, Snips told me she sealed the entire facility."

"Yes, but any remaining droids will try to break out, I'll do what I can to stop them, we cannot let that virus escape."

"Be careful." I smiled.

"Yes General, but, if anything happens—"

"Nothing will happen and...I know." I smiled again and finished the transmission.

"Okay." I whispered to myself as I walked towards the door after I finished the transmission. "I'll go-" Padmé looked at me and arched an eyebrow making me sigh. "We'll go to find them, you guys stay here." I told the clone troopers.

"Yes ma'am." They all answered.

"Ahsoka? Rex? Is anyone out there?" I asked through the communicator once we were outside. "Can anyone hear-"

"Master Naberrie." Ahsoka's voice responded, the feeling of relief intensified. "We're trapped in the safe room at the end of complex B."

"I'm on my way kid." I told her but then a wave of fear washed over me. "Are you...contaminated?" I asked after a couple seconds and waited some more for her response.

"I'm afraid so."

"Don't worry Snips, I'll be there in no time."

We walked carefully through the corridors of the enormous lab looking for the troopers and the Padawan hearing the echo of the footsteps and voices of the droids asking when'd they get out. We stayed hidden most of the time, that's when my communicator started to beep.

"Master." She said. "Where are you?"

"Right outside your safety room." I answered.

"Can you get the door open?" My sister and I looked at each other, and after few seconds I nodded, she clicked a button and the door opened. I walked up to her and placed my hand on her shoulder.

"I'm sorry kid."

"Don't worry about us Master, we still have a job to do." She said with determination, Ani has taught her well.

"There aren't very many remaining droids left." Said the Senator.
"We saw some heading towards the south entrance."

"As long as we're able, we'll help you destroy those droids before they breach the compound." Ahsoka added as Rex offered his blaster to my sister.

"You take the north corridor, we'll take the south." I said as Padmé took the blaster. We walked out slowly. "Gentlemen, meet me at the safe room in complex B, we're gonna go have some fun." I told the men that were with us minutes ago over the communicator.

"Roger that General." One of them said and we waited for them as Ahsoka, Rex and the rest went to the north corridor. Soon enough the men arrived and we began our way to the south to destroy the droids before it could be too late.

We walked for a while in silence through the hallways as the blue gas surrounded us. "The droids are close." I said. "They're cutting through a wall." I informed taking the handle of my lightsaber slowly. I placed my back against a wall, Padmé behind me, the troopers to my right, I looked at them and after I nodded we jumped out of our hiding spot and they fired their weapons while I turned on my lightsaber.

Blasts from both sides echoed, I deflected them while the clones hit every target. Immediately after, I saw Ahsoka arriving from behind, her green lightsaber on. Rex and I approached the bottom of the stairs. "Stop!" The Captain commanded.

"Don't open that hatch!" I added.

"Ha!" Exclaimed the droid. "Too late!" He added and shot the entrance, but his blast bounced around the reduced round space until it hit him, then, he fell.

"Well, that was easier than I expected." Said Snips, her voice was weaker, and there were bags underneath her blue eyes as we walked through the hallways when the unmistakable noise the Destroyers do when they roll over the ground echoed around.

"You know? You have Anakin's and Obi-Wan's luck to speak too soon." I told her and she shrugged with a contagious smirk, we ran to where they were to meet them halfway through and destroy them. As soon as they stooped —as usual— the blue shields were placed around them. "Take the one of the left, I take the one of the right and remember, slow movements."

"Yes Master." She said when they started to fire their blasters at us, we ran deflecting them and then, we jumped helping ourselves with the walls landing on top, we placed the sabers slowly into the shields and I destroyed mine first, then, I jumped down and saw how a blast was about to hit Padmé, so I jumped and tackled her, avoiding the deadly attack while Ahsoka destroyed the other one. "Allana!" She yelped as I stood up hearing air hissing.

"General, your suit has been compromised." Rex told me as I saw one of the tubes that maintained the air breathable was off the helmet, so I took it off.

"I'm so sorry." Ahsoka said. "I didn't-"

"Don't blame yourself." I told her with a smile, this things tend to happen in a war zone kiddo." I turned around to face the Senator. "Are you okay?"

"I am." She sighed with worry. "I'm sorry."

"Don't blame yourself either." I helped her stand. "We better find the rest, we can't let them out." I said taking the suit off, the rest nodded.

We followed the noise of metal against metal and soon enough we reached another hatch that they were trying to cut through.

"There they are!" Said Ahsoka enlightening her lightsaber, I did the same, we ran towards them, I cut the leg of the one that was climbing upstairs and when it fell I cut it by the half, then, I used the Force to pull the other one and Ahsoka cut him by the half as well, but then she groaned and reclined her weight on the stairs.

"Snips." I said placing my lightsaber on the belt and then my hands on her shoulders, her skin was cold as ice.

"I'm alright Smarty, I'm alright."

"I know, but you need some rest." I looked over my shoulder. "In fact, all of us do."
