1: The Beginning of the Line

Allana

"Ugh, that's hard!" I screamed as my body felt tired and I fell, colliding against the cold and hard floor with a soft thud. of the training room. "I- I can't do it Master."

"Wrong." Adi commented, the one who brought me to the Temple eventually became my former Master. She always says that I'm too strong, and that I'm stronger than a twenty five year old for being just eight. "You can do it, the problem is you think you can't."

"Would you be kind enough to remind me why are we sword fighting the exact day that we'll be going to celebrate peace at my home planet? Please? It's supposed that there's peace in the Galaxy."

"Because you have to be prepared." She said as she jumped to where I was and I incorporated, washing the drops of sweat off my forehead, feeling my hair sticky against the back of my neck. While she was in the air, she turned her green lightsaber on and I knew I had to defend myself, so, I enlightened mine too. When her feet hit the ground, it made impact with my light violet ones. "Always be prepared." I jumped up after I rolled over the ground and she attacked me again, gaining and gaining ground. "You have to learn that peace...will not be eternal, you must feel it." I blocked a thrust that went for my head. "A knot in your chest." I dodged the one that was coming from the left. "In the mouth of the stomach." She made a swift movement that could've chopped me by the half if I didn't do a backflip. "Feel danger approaching, sense it with every single one of your senses." When those last words came our of her mouth she extended her hand and pushed me backwards using the Force, but I made my legs stand their ground. "You have good defence, third form looks good in you." She commented as she smiled.

I scoffed pushing one of my brown locks behind my ear. "Thanks, I learned from the best."

"If that's so, let's see how well she taught you to attack." She pointed at me with her saber and I smiled as I spinned my lightsabers to get comfortable again.

I ran towards my Master and friend and started to attack her. As Padawans, we were instructed with the first form but I've adopted a different one, a mixture of the fourth and fifth combat forms, when I tried to use two lightsabers, form five made the reverse grip I have for defence easier and attacking was faster.

I started to gain the ground that I previously lost when she attacked me, the curved shape of the handle of the sabers made it easier to fight.

Our lightsabers made a terrible noice as they collided with each other. I was jumping around the platforms that were there at the training room as a thin layer of sweat covered my forehead again, I don't like trying to be acrobatic, it consumes energy in my opinion but I had to learn, to be prepared like she wants me to.

She successfully blocked all my attacks, but when I had her almost cornered against the wall, I pushed her backwards and —surprisingly— she lost her balance. I jumped and kicked her abdomen, when she tried to get up, I kicked the lightsaber off her hand, disarming her. The edge of the violet, whitish blades of the lightsabers were inches away from her neck as we recovered our breaths.

"That...that was good." She told me, as she stood up.

"Thank you, Master." I said turning the sabers off and clipping them to my belt. When I did, I felt something approaching me from the back, besides, the noise a lightsaber does when it's turned on it's hard to miss. I jumped backwards and pulled her saber with the Force towards my hand, grabbed it and pointed at her with it. "Really? From the back? That's a low one."

"Always-"

"Prepared. I know, I know."

"Good, young Padawan. This was a good session." She told me as I handed over her weapon. We both walked out taking off the sweat from our faces with towels. "Now, go freshen up, we're going to Naboo." She said with a smile on her lips.

"Yes Master." I said and bowed. Then I ran towards my small and simple room to take a shower and get ready to see my family in person after seven, long awaited years.

After I arrived at the Temple, I met the Jedi, people like me that were training to become Masters, keepers of Peace. I started to be trained as one of them, and was treated equally, though sometimes words would come to my ears saying that I was just a spoiled girl that came from a wealthy family in Naboo, and they increased when my sister was crowned as Queen of the planet. Eventually, I made those words go silent with hard work, it felt good to be the number one of the group I was in. It makes me feel proud that I surprised the Jedi Masters and how they even moved me a generation up to see how well I developed.

As I grew up here, I'd usually speak and keep in touch with the Nabeirre house by holo-communications, but things never passed that.

Now that the blockade of Naboo, implemented by the Trade Federation was over, there was going to be a celebration where we'd celebrate the joy, the victory, the alliances, and the peace that was now ruling the planet, my planet. This was going to be the moment when that longed reunion with my actual family would take place, even if that went against the strict rules of the Jedi Code.

I walked out of my room, and as I ran to meet my Master at the hangar, I bumped into someone's shoulder. He was walking calmly, surely to meet up with someone too.

"Oh, I'm so-" I looked up at the blue eyes that were in front of me. "Oh, Anakin, hey."

"Hey, Lana." He said with a tender smile.

Anakin Skywalker. The guy arrived couple months ago at the Temple. There were whispers everywhere and whenever he walked in at a training group class. Everyone was either gossiping or mocking him for being 'too old to be trained', or because he's 'just a slave from Tatooine.' But, honestly, I only saw a boy that was too strong, and clever. Able to build, arm and disarm things with no problem at all. Yes, he might used to be a slave, but he's someone that was actually born to be a Jedi. We were trained to become one, but he was born for this, and I admired him for that.

We trained together most of the time, and after very few months of knowing each other, we've become great friends, I'd say he's my best friend here, even if he took the number one position from me. He's a great person, always kind and always down to make a race around the large building, even if that meant being punished with cleaning all the droid units afterwards.

"Sorry, I-"

"Oh it's okay, don't worry about it. Are you meeting up with Master Gallia?"

"Yes. You're going with Master Kenobi, right?"

"Yeah, we're going to Naboo."

"So I heard." I commented. "My sisters are going to be there you know?"

"Sisters?" He asked.

"Yeah, Sola and Padmé, and my parents will pro-"

"Hold on, Padmé? As in Padmé Amidala?"

"Yes, I'm sure you know her."

"Why are you sure of it?"

"Well, because I told her that there was a new Padawan in the generation, she asked who that was, I said it was you and she told me that she knows you, and that she was sure you'd be successful."

"She talked to you about me?" He asked surprised and a hint of pink blush blossomed on his soft freckled kissed cheeks.

"Just that day. She's been busy with this whole thing about being Queen, and with the fact that, when she talked about going back to being a normal citizen and live quietly she was offered a place in the Senate that she's considering to accept...things have been a bit...crazy I guess."

"I- I see." We finally reached the main Hangar. "Now, I remember. She talked about you so much too, saying how much she misses you."

"Really?" My heart jumped with joy.

"Yes. She talked to us about how you'd spend loads of time together."

"That's lovely." I commented when I spotted my Master waving at me to hurry up and get in the ship. "Gotta go Skywalker, see you later." I smiled and ran away towards the ship.

"See ya Naberrie!" He yelled back.

[...]

We were now at Naboo. We were all lined up beside the stairs of the Palace. My sister, the Queen, was wearing her 'important occasion' makeup and a beautiful white dress; to fancy for my taste. By her side were the Gungan King and the Senators, as well as a Gungan named Jar Jar Binks. Then, the new Chancellor, who's from Naboo, handed the Queen a crystal ball that was a symbol of peace. She then, gave it to the King, who raised it over his head.

"Peace!" He yelled, and the whole square was filled up with cheers of joy, applauses and fireworks that went alongside colour confetti that was thrown by the people attending the ceremony. Surely, a day I'd never forget.

After everything was over and it was about to be time to go back to Coruscant, I went to the Lake Country, where my home used to be.

There I met with my parents and my sisters. I hugged them like it was the very first or very last time that I'd seen them. Tears of joy and sadness were streaming down the five of us.

After that reunion we had a delightful meal, that Adi was invited to take with us.

When it was about time that we'd hop on our ship, I spotted Padmé outside, at the garden, by the roses. When I walked out I was able to feel the spring breeze hit my face, and I inhaled the sweet smell of the flowers that were blooming. When I opened my eyes again, the middle Naberrie was smiling quite sadly at me; then, she started to run, inviting me to go after her.

I smiled and ran behind my sister. When I reached her, I touched her arm softly and ran as far as possible from her. And that game went on and on for what felt like an awaited eternity. Due to my training, I was able to run faster, and I eventually won the game. When we were completely exhausted, we laid down on the grass. We were just looking at the clouds turn into a peach colour as the sunset arrived.

"Told you we'd play another day." She told me as she took my hand, making me laugh and smile.

"Yes, you did." I commented as we heard the water running and the birds singing goodnight. "You now that I have to go, in a mome-"

"I will accept."

"What?"

"Being Senator. That way we'd be closer." She commented as her deep brown eyes met mine.

"Are you sure of that? People love you as their Queen. A good leader is all they need. Someone who's strong and can lead this planet and protect it." I said.

"Wow, strong words for a nine year old." I laughed and poked her ribs, making her laugh as well. Once our laughters stopped echoing in the place, she spoke again. "I know, but Chancellor Palpatine said that it could be a good idea, so, that's what I'll do." My head snapped towards her and then Sola started to call us again.

"Padmé! Allana! It's time!" She said by the entrance of the garden. After she walked in we busted into laughter.

"That brings back loads of memories." My other sister said.

"I'm sure she did it on purpose."

"Of course she did." Padmé assured. She dedicated me a sad smile as we walked from where we were to the entrance. And as if it had been yesterday, I ran away from her, making her follow me inside. We were laughing and smiling when we saw all the grown ups in the living room. Everyone was getting up and thanking my Master for the time she spent with us all.

Afterwards, the time for second goodbyes arrived. I hugged my mother and my father, inhaling their scent. When I pulled away from their embrace my mother was crying. "Mom, don't cry." I said as tears started to be formed on my eyes, something that always happened to me.

"Those are tears of joy." My father intervened. "We'll miss you flower." He said.

"We'll meet soon enough Father, you'll see." He just nodded and kissed my forehead. Then mother did the same, in the same spot he did seconds ago.

Then I turned to my sisters. Sola grabbed my hand and pulled me into a tight hug. She was all grown up now. A true lady. She whispered an 'I love you' on my ear and kissed my left cheek.

Now it was time to say goodbye to my best friend. Padmé hugged me and gave me her hand as well. She kissed my right cheek and whispered a 'love you, see you soon' when she hugged me again. "Here." She told me, placing something in my hand, but she closed it before I could have a look at it "This...may not be right to be given to you because it was a gift."

"From whom?"

"Anakin, he-"

"Then I can't take it. I interact with him all the time. It would be inappropriate."

"I know that, but then what can I give to you that doesn't call everyone's attention? I want you to have something that reminds you of me. Please take it, and if he asks, tell him exactly what I just told you. Please."

"I-" She gave me a glare and I sighed. Among the three of us, she was the most stubborn one. "Fine." I commented and hugged her one last time. "I'll miss you."

"I know, but I already told you. It'll be our secret alright?"

"Alright."

"Allana...time to go." Gallia told me.

"Yes Master." I turned to my family and looked at them for a couple seconds. "I'll miss you."

"We'll miss you too Lans." Sola said smiling, but with tears coming out of her blue eyes.

"We'll meet soon, I'm sure of it." I said as I walked out of my house to meet up with my Master.

The both of us hopped on our ship and as it was just yesterday, I waved them all goodbye just before the gate closed before my face, and the orange colours of the sky were long gone from my view.

"You're probably tired. Try to sleep a bit Naberrie, I'll wake you up five minutes before the landing." My master told me.

"Thank you Adi." She smiled at me, and I started my way towards the small room where either of us slept every now and then.

When I laid down on the bed, I opened my hand. I saw a beautiful pendant made out of a japor snipped that had different patterns hanging from a brown leather chain. I looked at it and smiled; then placed it over my head for it to be around my neck. As I grabbed the pendant on my fingers to admire it, I started to close my eyes, thinking about how good today was. Thinking about my family, and the time well spent we enjoyed.

As the texture of the wood where the pendant was built of started to be less present on my fingertips as I fell deep and more deep asleep with the time, I thought of Padmé and Anakin. The two people this piece of jewelry reminds me of, and how thankful I am of having them beside me.
