63 | FORTNIGHT
This words rang in my ears as I sat entirely in shock. Finn had returned from cleaning himself up, giving me even more chance to sit in utter mortification. Now he stood in front of me again while I still sat on the counter.
I didn't know what to say as I covered my mouth with my hand. "Did I really? I didn't think I could... what does that even mean?"
"Oh, you definitely did." Finn panted. "I have no clue how that worked, but I can tell you with complete certainty that you did."
I started to laugh. Actually I started to laugh hysterically and couldn't stop because of the whole awkwardness of this situation. "Oh Fates... I'm sorry! I don't know what else to say but I'm sorry!"
He only shook his head, "it's fine. This is definitely not what I expected... when thinking about us making out on my kitchen counter."
"What did you feel?"
Finn looked up to me with a raised eyebrow and cheeky smile. "When I came or when your meraki hit me?"
My cheeks flushed, "the meraki part. I think I can... guess the other part."
"It wasn't really a feeling, more like images that all happened in one instance like a movie in some sense. It was us from your point of view... I'm guessing you can imagine what we were doing. You have a really creative imagination might I add because I think all of what I saw was from you."
I covered my eyes with my hands with a groan. "No, please tell me it wasn't."
"You wanted to rip off my boxers no matter what color? Make me moan until I forgot my own..." I slapped one of my hands over his lips as he laughed against my fingers.
After a few moments with a deep breath, I finally had the courage to open my eyes and remove the hand from his lips.
Finn looked particularly smug. "As I said, what ever you had in mind was indeed very creative. I saw a lot more, specifically some things we could have done on this counter..."
"Oh my Fate, I want to die." I hissed in horror. My meraki had showed him my deepest, darkest thoughts? My sex fantasies? How much worse could it get than that? "I can't believe it showed you everything! Everything!"
Finn only touched my hands, giving them a squeeze in his. "Don't be embarrassed, Kate." He took in a breath. "I was having a lot of... similar ideas. A lot of them."
My cheeks burned as Finn ran his fingers up my thighs, making a shiver run up my spine. Emotions were spinning inside me the further Finn's hands came up my legs. With a shudder at all the tension in my body, I gripped his hands in mine before resting my forehead against his. "I can't... I'm sorry. I want to, really badly. Well, you know that apparently..."
"I understand." Finn replied, his voice barely above a whisper as he set his hands on either side of me to grip the countertop.
I gazed into his blue eyes. "That's... fine with you?"
"Of course it is. I'm not going to pressure you, Kate. I'm very into you don't get me wrong," this made us both smile, "but I'm only going to want you if you want me too. And desire is very different from having consent in full."
Letting out a breath, I cupped his face in my hands, running my fingers along his jawline. "You understand, thank Fate. I thought you'd be offended or hurt..."
"Because you wouldn't give me what I wanted?" He snorted, "that is childish and selfish. I respect you, Kate. I'm not making you do anything you don't feel comfortable with, unless it's flying."
I nudged his arm as he chuckled, feeling better now that my feelings were off my chest. "Thank you."
"Why are you thanking me? This is decency."
"As I've told you before, all the men from where I came from were hardly decent."
Finn went quiet as he stared at me, gazing at my face as he clenched his jaw. Clearing his throat, he finally said, "this is because of the idiot, isn't it?"
Leighton. From the look in his eyes, it was obvious now that he'd put some pieces together. I bit my lip, "kind of. He isn't all of it, but I guess we both contributed. I don't know really. I haven't talked about it much."
"Do you need someone to listen?" Finn asked me, those rich blue eyes glimmering down at me with a kindness that warmed me all the way to my toes.
"I thought you didn't want to hear me talk about sex... with Leighton?"
"I'll listen if you need me even if I might hate what he did to you. I warned you that I was jealous, and I am, but I can put that aside. He was your past, and I trust that I have you now in the present, maybe later in the future too."
"You'll have me for a long time if you keep being this sweet." I smiled, earning a boyish smile in return; I adored those smiles. I swallowed before beginning, "Matilda doesn't even know this. I never told her. We were having bigger problems than Leighton like the fires."
"So, this happened nearly right before I met you?"
"A couple days before." I nodded, Finn's fingers intertwining with mine. "I don't know, Finn. I thought that I was in love with him, which I realized by now wasn't true. He wanted a lot from me before he even wanted to admit that I was anyone special to him. He didn't want to make it a big deal because it wasn't to him, but it was to me. I was angry and hurt, and then... Andrew died in the fire. I just... gave in to him because I thought that was it, that we'd all be gone in the morning. I thought I loved him, and I thought it was meant to be, one of those romances that are difficult but slowly turn out ok in the end. I thought maybe giving him what he wanted would finally put us on the right path I guess. Then in the middle of it my eyes started to glow for the first time, and... and he just left."
"He fucking left you?" Finn let out a deep snarl that startled me. He looked twice as angry as I'd ever seen him before, even more lethal than when we'd been in World War III after the Mimic incident. His rage had escalated to new heights I realized as I watched veins I'd never seen before rise on his forehead.
"I never saw him again until he jumped on you in the alley."
"And he thought he had the damn authority then to say he was your boyfriend? I should have killed me, that piece of shit."
My cheeks burned, "all of this, us, still makes me anxious, Finn. Not because I believe that you're like Leighton but... it's just... my meraki combined too and with what just happened... I don't trust myself not to hurt you."
"I understand, Kate. I really do, and I'm glad that I've managed to earn your trust." He tilted my chin up so that our eyes met. "I'll wait for you for forever if I have to. I can live another 60 years. You've never scared me, ever. Please know that I really do consider you my girlfriend, my girl, and that I'd never leave you."
I slid off the counter, wrapping my arms around his waist before burying my head into his chest. I could feel my eyes watering, Finn resting his chin on the top of my head as he held me tight. "Dammit, I really don't want you to leave tomorrow."
"I'll jump out of the plane and fly home as soon as it takes off." He placed a kiss on the top of my head, making me sigh.
"That would only scare the hell out of me! Please don't tell me if you do start jumping out of planes."
"Alright, alright." Finn chuckled before he looked down at me. "It looks like we'll just have to make the most of our night together before I leave."
The mischievous glow in his eyes made me smirk. "What wicked ideas do you have in mind?"
"A couple that you'll like." With that, Finn hurried around the counter and into the living room, grabbing bar stools as he drug them across the floor.
I laughed as I followed, "what are you doing?"
Finn tossed the blanket at me from the couch, nailing me in the face as he burst out laughing. "Pillow fort!"
He aligned the stools with the couch before beginning to drag another chair across the living room to complete the third corner. Sliding the fourth chair into place, Finn and I both moved another pair over before he jogged down a hallway I hadn't been in yet.
When he returned, his arms were full of stacked blankets, making me giggle as I took a handful from him. "You weren't kidding about the blankets!"
"No, I really wasn't." He smiled down at me before we started to spread them everywhere.
Blankets covered the couch under our pillow fort as Finn made the roof, cascading it out into the open air before letting it settle on the tops of the chairs. We secured them together before stuffing pillows on the couch.
I plopped down onto the floor, lifting back our curtains of blankets to see the inside of our nice pillow fort. Looking up to Finn, I gave him a wide grin. "It's perfect."
He only replied by spreading a blanket out on the floor, holding two edges in his hands before looking at me. "Come here."
I raised an eyebrow. "What for?"
"Just come sit on the blanket, Kate."
Obeying, I plopped down on the blanket as he held the corners still. "Why are we doing this? Are you going to wrap me up like a burrito?"
"Maybe next." Finn laughed before he began to shuffle backwards and gave a rough tug in the blanket. I squealed as suddenly I was being pulled along the hardwood floor, the blanket gliding across it as Finn pulled me about.
It hardly seemed like work for him as he drug me around the kitchen island. I laughed and screamed with each sharp edge, and he'd make sure to turn tight in order to whip me around each corner, nearly making me roll off onto the floor. After a few laps, Finn sat down on the ground in front of me grinning as I panted from all my laughter.
"That was fun." I smiled, crawling forward. I rested on my knees, wrapping my arms around Finn's neck from where he sat. I was taller than him with this angle, and he cradled the small of my back with his warm hands. I beamed down at him, "so cute, shorty."
Finn chuckled, his deep rumbling voice making me feel fireworks inside my chest. His hand ran up my spine, coaxing my head down in order that our lips would press together. Electricity ran through my body from head to toe as I kissed him back eagerly, leaning against his chest as he held me close.
My body was on fire under his touch, his lips soft and sweet as I tightened my hold on him. His breath matched mine as he deepened our kiss, his tongue dancing with mine as he dug his fingers into my hair.
Something buzzed in the kitchen, making Finn let out a snarl before pulling back from me.
"Dammit." He stood to his feet, helping me up with him.
"What is it?"
"Clock. It was supposed to remind me to pack," his words died away as his arms came around my waist, kissing the side of my neck in a way that made my legs nearly give out. "I'll pack tomorrow."
"Finn, you should..." I let my words dwindle as I stood on my tiptoes to kiss his lips. I cupped his face in my hands as I tried to memorize how soft his lips were: how nice they felt against mine, the contorts of his body under my fingertips, and the way he made my heart race in my chest.
We were soon tangled up in the blankets under the cover of the pillow fort, wrapped up in each other on the couch as the warmth of Finn's body and his kisses stayed with me for the rest of the night.
