Five. a daunting reality

I went out to get fresh air. Being confided inside of the Cullen house was restricting, it was enough to question my sanity. Bella had woken up, ever hungry but the baby was non-compliant in having any substantial. her body is deteriorating fast.

Bree had came back home, distraught, the effort of containing her emotion was easy to see. She misses her mother and father.

I stand on the wrap around veranda, to the second floor, inhaling the dew of water particles coming out of the ravine. My perceptual awareness senses a presence, not needing to face away knowing it was Edward.

" have you come out to apologise, Cullen?" He didn't smell or reek of animal blood, that I could tell. " Was the hunting a lie? I can't detect animal blood on your clothing." I was not in the correct mood for an argument. His hands sneak, slither, around the middle core  part of my body. Chin relaxing on where my shoulder and neck aligns.

" truthfully I couldn't put my focus on the hunt. It comes easy, usually. it was plausibly my self-deprecation of being an asshole to you." If this is him trying at apologising, it's contemptible. I sigh, exaggerating my breath, enabling him to continue.

" I am sorry for how I have treated you. And.. the baby that you carry. Our baby. I suppose I allow the better judgement, or the overreactive distorted reality where this could have ended, horribly, in my mind. having the knowledge you will survive the birth and have a normal, adding accelerated, pregnancy. brought me out of it."

It was nothing new when it came to marriage, being in a relationship. There's difficulties and differences. Communication is a factor to a healthy married life.

" not that I have to set a reminder here, on twenty first century standards of being in a marriage, but we have a policy called communication. Edward, It's vital. You should read the definition."

I say, turning and having my body adjacent to his. with an eye roll, he parts his lips to speak pausing then brings our attention over where Jacob and Seth come emerging out. Their faces show problems have arise.

" the pack knows about Bella, Kai. They are coming for her. And they've become aware of you, including. Paul wants to speak to you, in private." Not if I can help it. If Sam wants to devise a plan of action, to inflict harm on her, he will have an enemy in me. " I won't allow that. Jake. Nothing will happen to her." I knew he could hear, the nod confirming he did. Edward's face deflects obstinacy, new found determination. Now attentive to the urgency and danger she is in. I was having not one to have an ounce of disquietude.

Both my wings sprout out of my spine. I leap in the air, the beating pulses of air they create reiterate inside my ears. I could hear Jacob, Seth and Leah speaking she had left the pack in order to assure Seth was safe. It wasn't long, after, howls of the pack overwhelm the air. I would have found solace in travelling through high above clouds and floating in the wind, in spite of an any doubt or occurrences, but Sam implementing war on the Cullens and myself is my first concern.

It wasn't long before I became vigilant to Paul in his wolf configuration and body. He treads, back and forth in place, giving indistinct growls.

Troubled as though fighting commands he couldn't defy.

" I am here. I know you are not alone, Paul, I can sense the pack. Come out, Samuel." Sam, never changing out of his wolf formation, treads out from a shrub. His gums are curled in a snarl to reveal large canines. In my peripheral, Jared and Embry enclose. Creating no escape. 'So it has come to this.'

" I am going to give a reminder of who exactly you are waging this one-sided fight against, Sam." I state, my eyes radiating; exhorting a warning which I would not hesitate to retaliate. He bares his teeth, growling in reluctance. Paul slinks forward having his hackles up, I brace the thought of having the fight him removing any thought to our imprint bond. But he came my side, a clear message of loyalty he chose. To me. He made his choice. Sam recoils, his front hind legs moving back. Paul gravelly snarls, daring Sam; a Challenge.

" Bella's baby is no threat, including the one I carry. Don't try and come for her, or I won't hesitate to do the one thing out of my morals." I wasn't the boy to tell threats. It went against any ethical standards, or nature I have. " It won't end well. This is the first, final, warning." Jared, and Embry, restrain against wanting to submit. Giving whines. Paul forces his furry head to one side, breaking and severing the connective affliction of the pack following behind my retrieving self. running at full force, back to the Cullens. Howls, angry, echo.

Once I am in the clearing of the Cullens driving path, I attach a hand to my stomach. The sudden actualisation, and cognisance, of growing life in my body was not a reality inside my mind. A foreign new feeling. I pant, in discomfort. " Remind me to not run, again. Not at least until she, or he, is born. Because that was not a comforting experience." I hear feet breaking and crunching leaves.

Paul came out of behind the trees. Now clothed. " Decker. You need to explain to me, how are you knocked up with the blood- Cullens kid." Automatically I gave a roll of my eyes. " You are going to make me explain it to you, Lahote. Fine, you are entitled to an answer I suppose. Not out here, though."

Seth, coming back from inside the house, face splits in to an ear to ear grin.

" Dude. you left the pack as well? Awesome. I mean, of course! you wouldn't leave Malachi. He's your imprint!".

Paul, appearing disconcert and apprehensive, gave a sigh.

" You are right, Seth. I let Sam convince me that whatever Malachi's is carrying is the coming of Christ. I had hate, for the baby. And once I saw how Malachi is, I changed my opinion. I'm sorry, Decker."

He applied his hand, securely, on my arm.

The electrical jolt of the imprint connection flickers.

" I read through the packs link Sam's plan. I know black heard it, as well. And Leah. We need to warn your bloodsuck- the Cullen's about it."

His correction made me crack a smile.

" Sam has lost the element of surprise. He doesn't want to take you outnumbered, and won't come at you head on. He's got the place surrounded, and wait for his opportunity. I know you've had a talk with him, Kai, but once Sam makes his mind clear and his decision, there is nothing that can dissuade him."

Jacob illustrates the plan made. Edward held my hand, caressing the wrinkling skin.

" then we fight."

Emmett proposes, with a clear determination. Much as I wasn't opposing to the ideology of engaging in conflict, it would break the treaty rules. Carlisle agrees.

" No fighting. We won't be the ones to break the treaty."

" The treaty is void, Doc. At least in Sam's mind, with due respect." Paul voiced, Bree nestled in my side seeking comfort. Her body un-tensing at my touch.

" Carlisle. No one has hunted for weeks." Emmett expresses.

That was a problem, a starving vampire not being fed would be detrimental. it would mean having to hunt in caution, on guard, of the wolves leading their assault. It wasn't a certain the Cullens would feed properly.

" We'll make do." Esme assures, not being optimistic in her own acclaim. I felt helpless. Which wasn't a first.

" You've done us a great service here, Jacob. Paul. Thank you." Jake nods. Paul unravels his arms, muscles reposing and relaxed. " I am being serious here, Kai dude. I need a run down of how you.. are well..." I face palm, hand sliding over my nose. Edward hid a ghost of a smile.

It was night fall when the house became silent, Jake and Seth were on a perimeter run. alert for signs and noticeable movement in the night, returning after each corner of the area was cleared. The pack was out there, it was clear. Waiting in anticipation.

Felix had remain vigilant, never once speaking. Bella, peaceful, slept. Jacob, myself, Emmett and Edward watch her. Her emaciated and skeletal face, fragile, pinches in a flinch. the baby kicked her rib. I could see each micro expression on Felix face.

" Rosalie. Why don't you get something, for Jacob, to eat." Esme instructs. Rose, less predispose in making food for Jake, pulls her lips down. Frowning.

" Thanks but no thanks. Politely. I rather not eat something with blondies spit in it." I gave a soft snort, out of amusement. Emmett smirks. " She would never embarrass me with such lack of hospitality, Won't you rose." I raise a finger, bringing all eyes to me.

" I am quite starved myself. Could you make some ice cream, for me, please rosie."

I draw a halo over my head. showing there was ulterior motive to the request. Rose gave a sweet smile, tugging her bottom lip. " Of course." She moves up and walks down to the kitchen. pans, pots clamour. 'I wonder what she has planned.' Jacob, a little deterrent because it was Rosalie making the food, gave quick looks of question to Edward and I. " you will tell me if she has poisoned it, right?".

Rose became visible, coming out of the hall. Holding a Ben and Jerry ice cream pint in one hand. A metallic salad bowl containing a hotdog and relish in the next with 'FIDO' engraved. " enjoy it, Mongrel." She passes the ice cream, then places the bowl down. On the floor, like a dog would eat from. " Don't make such a big deal when it comes to the baby breaking ribs. Even human babies have been known to crack ribs." She exclaims. I mutter " Thanks." To her, in return she gave a half smile. Reading medical examinations, books, determine it was the truth. Rib fractures weren't a myth. Mom's rib cage splintered in her third trimester.

Jacob, taking a bite out of the hot dog, flung the bowl to Rosalie. It clamours to the floor, loudly. 'Oh Jake. Why would you do that.' I brought my fingers, up to my mouth. ice cream melting on the spoon. Emmett and Edward laugh. Rosalie, incensed with anger, flares her nose. " You. Got. Food. In my hair!" She bellows, I am quite certain that would have woken Bella but she didn't awaken.

Days bled in to a week. Carlisle had made it thorough, and known, he couldn't infiltrate and picture an X-ray of the baby rapidly increasing in size inside Bella's womb. There was no puncture wounds. That didn't decrease the affect on her degenerating anatomy. It was depriving any food from entering. She was weaken. Carlisle's last words on occasion would repeat. Your heart, Bella. It will give out before you can deliver.

I see the reflection of my stomach, the distinct growth recognisable. I was approximately in my second trimester, in appearance. Rosalie ran the water, turning the valve clockwise. Felix watches as I help Bella out of the chair, her fragile physique and bones being impartially lay to bare. Her bathing robe falls.

I avert my eyes, holding the clothing to her breast. She leans in, exhaustion shadowing and shown, inhaling my scent seeking comfort. " I don't want Felix to see me like this, K-Kai."

She uses some energy, speaking below a whisper, stuttering. eyes stung with tears. Understanding, and respecting her words, Felix cranes down his head wandering away.

'If only there was a way I could help her.'

A re-recorded football game match televised on the television substitutes for the tension. Bella lays shivering, plucking at each of her sweaters sleeve. " you are cold." States Felix, he monitors her from his place at the window. She gave the weakest of nods.

" Here." Jacob positions his body to act as a radiator, the loss of circulation in Bella's system proving hard to maintain heat. Paul, placid, saunters in. " Seth and Leah haven't heard one howl or growl. Complete radio silence, well growling silence." He made a terrible pun. Bree, her eyes darkening in hunger by the second, gave a light giggle.

Bella balance's her elbow on the pillow given, giving laboured gasps of air, wanting to vomit. I place the bucket below her, nothing exists. Jacob gave soft soothes of rubs.

" We need to find a way to get food into her system." Esme is right, bee can't go much longer. She needs something, anything. " Maybe if I could see the foetus.." Alice goes on to say, rose interjects. " Baby." Correcting her, in counter Alice ignores the correction.

" I could figure out what it wants." It was a morbid idea, never would have thought to think about it but it could help.

" We feed her blood. The baby, He or she, is after all half vampire. It makes total sense. Think.. nothing is substantially more important to a vampires diet than blood." My acclamation brings a bitter truth of reality. The thought and mentioning of blood imparts a sense of change in my own self. An awareness. I haven't had a craving of it but it didn't in-seer disgust. I had seen Emmett, Jasper and Edward faces change. " Malachi is right. I read Jacobs mind, too. he agrees. Ignoring the sarcasm intended." Jake, snide and scornful, scoffs. " Looking for something to sink its little fangs into. Is what I said."

Paul rose a precise eyebrow, to me. As he was not expecting that idea from myself. I gave a mere shrug.

" I know the feeling." Bree and Emmett say, in sync. I flatten down the hairs loose, on the crown of her head. " I'm hungry. Dad." She mumbles, avoiding looking at Bella. " I don't know how long left.. I need .." pretty sure if I was human the force she clung on to me with would break bones. " I know. I know."

I was proud of her self-restraint she had.

" animal blood won't suffice. I have O-negative for Bella in a refrigerator. Malachi, if you have the confidence, I would like to test this theory with you as well." Drinking blood. Never would I have given a guess or single thought of it before.

" Walk with me." Alice guides Jasper out, knowing he was still not assured of his reaction when it came to human blood. Felix, though a quipped and knows he would do fine, still goes in the other room as precaution.

Rose motions Emmett to exit the room, he abides it. I move my arms, using each of the knuckles inside of my hand to heave Bree off my body.

" Go with aunt Alice. Okay, honey. go, it's fine." I encourage. She gets up, faltering.

" He will be fine, Bree, darling." Esme soothes, Rosalie nods in compliance. Bree leaves to where Alice, Emmett, and Jasper were.

Carlisle had two IV bags of blood. He untwist the tube, filling the glasses. I watch, fixating on each smell of cells and vertebrates. a rich metallic redolence crept inside of my nostrils.

" We will only do this, Bella, if you and Malachi are comfortable." Edward inquiries.

Bee musters the energy to nod, light as feather held my hand.

Paul, gulping back repulse, steps back making space for him to approach the kitchen. He pours the blood contents inside styrofoam cups. " It will help with digesting." Jacob, disbelieving what he was hearing, stares.

" You are seriously going to make Kai and Bella drink that."

I am handed the cup. 'Time for the moment of truth.' Drinking blood for the first time. 'How bad could it go.'

I part my lips, situating the straw below my teeth. Suctioning of air, through the plastic polypropylene creation, guides blood up and enters my mouth past my lips. An insurgence of desire courses through each of my senses.

Eyes closing, I emptied the cup rupturing the styrofoam to pieces. It flails down, crumbling. Edward, eyes wide, has both of his brows raised in surprise. Paul copies.

" I feel..good. That tasted .. delicious. Actually." I grin, Edward in reply rolls his eyes. " you have blood on the corners of your mouth, Kai." I rub and clean off remaining substances using my thumb. Paul uses his head to nod.

" Decker, your eyes are red. Like blood red." Why would my eyes be glowing. 'I am not angry.' I blink, seeing a reflective picture of myself inside the TV. He is not wrong. My eyes are red.

'I wonder what triggered my eyes.'
