Waiting
The racket died down as the demons dissapeared from her sight. There was dead silence everywhere as (Name) sat there alone. The night air was chilly and she shivered, with nothing but her dress to cover her. She longed for the feel and warmth of Alfred's wings.
And there was nothing she could do.
There were shouts and gunshots heard from a distance and (Name) knew she had to flee.
She suddenly heard a heart-stopping scream and quickly got up and turned back around the corner down, the street, and ran home.
She knocked the door, out of breath and she could hear her father mutter about doorbells as he opened the door.
"(Name)?" He exclaimed. Her mother peered from behind. "Where's your date?"
"He's-" (Name) started to say, but her voice broke as she continued. "He's...gone home..."
"Home?" Asked her father, suspiciously "He went home and left you here?!"
"Dad, it's fine!" She pushed herself through the door and ran up the stairs to her room, slamming her door shut in the process.
"What happened to her?" Her father asked.
"I'll go check," her mother walked up the stairs after her daughter. She knocked on the door. "(Name)? I'm coming in..." There was no answer on the other side. Cautiously, she opened the door and turned on the light.
(Name) was sitting on her bed with her head drooped. Her mother sat next to her.
"Dear, you can tell me what's wrong..."
"What did Alfred do to you?"
"He didn't do anything, Mom"
"Did he break your heart?"
(Name) was silent for a moment before answering "I wish it were as easy as that..."
"(Name), I am you mother. Your happiness is my happiness. Your sadness is my sadness. If you are hurting, then I am hurting as well."
"Mom, Alfred didn't hurt me. As a matter of fact, he did the exact opposite."
Her mother nodded, knowing her daughter will say no more. She got up and kissed her daughter on the head, bidding her a good night, sleep tight, and a don't let the bed bugs bite, leading to a small chuckle from (Name).
The door closed and (Name) got up to turn off the light. She took her dress off and got into her sleepwear and climbed into bed.
Then, she began to quietly sob herself to sleep.
It has been days since the incident. Alfred never came to visit. (Name) felt like she lost a piece of her sanity with every passing day.
Everyone asked her what became of her date and some asked if they could see him, to which (Name) didn't reply to.
She had settled into a state of depression and locked herself up, not speaking much and isolating herself.
Did her soldier die in action?
One day, the sun shone brightly through the window as if saying this will be a good day no matter what you make of it. (Name) forced herself out of her bed into another lonely day. She checked the clock on her nightstand. It was eleven in the morning. Her parents were out shopping for groceries probably, so she had the house for herself.
She opened the windows to let in some air, and perhaps to cheer her up.
She sighed, expecting he would appear again and flash his trademark grin.
As she was about to shut the window and mope alone in bed, something tumbled through the window.
