Renegade
Alfred flew through the clouds in loop-de-loops and and twirls. He flew up toward the sun, folded in his wings, and dropped down to earth, only to unfold his wings right before he crashed, and up again he went.
Up he went, to the Gates of Heaven. He went straight through there, his tunic flapping in the wind. Alfred completely ignored the angels in his way.
"Sorry bro!" Alfred called back
"Alfred you are late!" Someone called from below. He looked down and saw a not-so-happy angel frowning up at him.
"Oh hey Ar-, I mean-" Alfred quickly dropped down to the cloud and folded in his wings, at the same time bowing deeply to the higher-ranking angel.
Though this angel did not look that much older than Alfred, he had been in Heaven since the dawn of time.
His messy blond hair have the impression of a man just out of adolescence. Stern emerald eyes glared at Alfred, but sadly, he was actually shorter than the lesser angel. And did I mention the eyebrows. You couldn't take him seriously because of those bushy eyebrows.
But you could tell that this angel was greatly respected. When others pass him by, they bow respectfully. He held his head high and there was a type of light glowing within him.
"Alfred, this is the eighth time that you have been late."
"Yes Master Britannia, I am sorry" But as Alfred kept his bowed position, he couldn't hide his smile.
"Alfred, look at me when you are speaking"
Alfred stood up and looked at his elder with a goofy smile.
"I'm not smiling, Master"
"Alfred, come with me" Britannia turned and headed onward, flying slightly with his toes barely touching the ground. Alfred followed suit.
They reached a courtyard with other angels milling about.
They flew to a secluded area under broad, golden trees.
Britannia turned sharply to Alfred.
"Do not act like you have no idea of what I am talking about!" Britannia's emerald eyes glared angrily at Alfred, who hung his head down in fear and shame.
Britannia's eyes softened and he sighed "Alfred," he said "You are still very young. You do not know all there is to know to be a higher angel. Don't you want to be one?" He put a hand on Alfred's shoulder. Alfred looked up and saw a smiling face. He smiled back as well.
"Would you care to tell me what keeps you late from your studies?"
"Sir, you know how I am a guardian angel?"
"Most of us are, yes. So it is your human?"
Alfred nodded, blushing at the thought.
"Does she get in trouble much?"
"So how is she keeping you from your studies?"
Alfred looked back down at his feet.
"Alfred, how many times do I have to tell you? You may not call me by my personal name until you have reached my rank-"
"Arthur, I'm in love!" Alfred blurted out, unable to contain it any longer.
Other angels close by heard Alfred and stood, staring at him.
".....You are in love?" asked Arthur quietly.
"Yes, sir" Alfred began regaining confidence and looked at his master square in the eye.
"Alfred, you know this goes against the Law-"
"Don't interrupt me!" Arthur snatched his pupil on both shoulders and looked at him in the eye.
"Alfred," he spoke more calmly "You are still human, so this is reasonable. This doesn't happen many times, but it still happens; young angels falling for humans."
Alfred did not say anything.
"You may still see her, but you have to end these feelings, they will do you no good-"
"Alfred, it is a sin to go against Go-"
"I DON'T CARE" He roughly shrugged Arthur's hands off his shoulders and backed away. Other angels began whispering and pointing at the scene that began unfolding.
"Alfred, end this dream!"
"This is not a dream! This is real!!!"
"You know the consequences" Arthur began feeling his anger boil up.
"I don't care, Arthur" Alfred lifted his chin up in rebellion "I don't care what God has to say. Why can't I love a human?"
"Because you are a servant to Him and you cannot be distracted-"
"THEN I DON'T WANT TO BE HIS SERVANT BECAUSE DON'T GIVE A DAMN!!!" Alfred yelled, then noticed his mistake, as he heard others gasp and exclaim in surprise and disgust.
"Alfred you have sinned," said Arthur silently, his eyes shining in anger. "You have spoken against Him."
Alfred said nothing as he walked away, ignoring the stares and whispers from the other angels.
"If you are to start a war," Arthur spoke desperately, as if his words could bring him back "You better know what you're fighting for!!!"
Alfred stopped walking and slowly looked back. His glasses reflected light so they couldn't truly see his eyes beneath.
"I do, now more than ever"
Then he broke out into a run.
"Get him!" One angel shouted.
"Such foul language for a servant of God!"
Angels flew in the direction Alfred fled, while others stayed behind to converse of the recent events.
Arthur stood alone under the golden trees.
"You're such a dreamer," he sighed "Don't you know that not all dreams come true?"
