Chapter 11.2
For a few seconds, Evabelle experienced the feeling of weightlessness before she was rammed back and forth against everything from the seats to the windows as well into other people. Through the insanity Evabelle caught sight of a pale white glow and felt a strange tingly sensation.
Finally there was a definitive thud calling an end to the fall. Evabelle took several deep breaths and pressed a hand against her racing heart. Well it wouldn't be doing that if she was dead. So that could only mean that she was alive. It was amazing. She wasn't even that injured. Evabelle did feel a bit bruised, but other than that she was fine. Glancing around, revealed that the car was now on its side and Evabelle now sat on the window.
A small painful cry made Evabelle look up at Gem was still caught in her seatbelt. "Gem," Evabelle called to her. "Unbuckle it and just hold onto it."
"Where are we?" The little girl cried. "What happened? I don't want to fall! Where's Kai?"
"It's okay, Gem." Evabelle did her best to sound soothing. "Just undo the belt and hold onto it."
The little girl's hands were shaking as she nodded and undid the buckle and clung to the strap. It fell down toward Evabelle, who propped herself up on her knees and reached out for the young elf. Gem slid into Evabelle's arms and clung fiercely to her. Evabelle felt the small girl shaking in her arms held her close. Evabelle thought she had been through an ordeal, but she couldn't imagine what it must have been like for Gem.
Sounds of frantic movement made Evabelle turn her head and squint through the darkness to see a large black feathered wing move aside revealing a pale face. "Gem!" Kai exclaimed. "Gem! Where are you? Are you alright?"
Gem loosened her grip around Evabelle and moved toward her brother. "Kai? Kai, I'm fine. Are you okay?"
Kai let out a sigh of relief. "Yes, I'm fine, Gem." He coughed as Del's feather found their way to his mouth. "Currently I'm just squished under everyone else."
Evabelle thought suddenly of CJ, who had been on the floor closest to that window. He was still injured. "Kai, where's CJ? It he alright?"
Kai did his best to move around. "Del!" He tried nudging the Anahalian. "Del, where's CJ?"
Del groaned and propped himself up on his hands, lifted his wing for Kai, and turned to face them. Evabelle's eyes widened as she saw the blood on Del's forehead. "Del!" She cried out.
He shook his head. "I'm fine. We all are thanks to Lucis."
"What do you mean?"
"You did an isolation spell, didn't you?" Called a voice from the front.
Evabelle turned and saw Faux looking around the seat at them with Tru rising to a sitting position next to him.
"Yeah," Lucis's voice responded from somewhere Evabelle couldn't see. "I'm sorry I didn't do it fast enough. There may be a few injuries."
Aza's voice sounded from up in the driver's seat. "Isolation spell?"
Evabelle glanced up there and saw Calandra and their expertly insane driver struggling to disentangle themselves from one another.
"Yes," Replied Lucis. "It's a spell that isolates all the objects in an area. You may come into contact with things, but your body doesn't recognize it. So when you slam into the window, you won't break it or any part of you."
"We should have had that spell for this entire trip." Grunted Del, wiping his forehead, creating a red smudge that reminded Evabelle, ridiculously of Lion King when Rafiki put the weird fruit juice stuff on Simba before he raised him up for the rest of the animals.
"Either way, it was quick thinking." Kai nodded.
"Everyone," Calandra called for attention, having just managed to get herself away from Aza. "I don't think we're out of the woods yet. That can't have been all the werewolves. Those were cubs and where there are cubs there are-"
"You're saying there are more?" Aza cut her off.
Evabelle's heart was beginning to pound again. More. More werewolves. More scary things ready to destroy us.
Night air swept through the car as the side door above Evabelle slid open, causing her to seize up. It was Faux. He had jumped up and was now standing on one of the seats staring out into the darkness. "Oh, yeah," His voice was not encouraging. "There's a lot more of them." Then he ducked back into the vehicle and slammed the door.
Evabelle screamed as the car was suddenly bowled into. Shaggy, wild beasts bounded onto the car, banged their fists against the window, the yellow eyes boring into Evabelle with their uncontrollable hunger.
"The magic on the car is not going to hold!" Cried Calandra. "We're going to have to fight!"
"WHAT!" Screamed Evabelle.
Just then as one of the creatures, halfway between wolf and man, brought down his fists again and a loud pop sounded. A deep spidery webbed crack splayed itself across the window, distorting the sneer that curled the wolf's mouth as he brought his fists down yet again, this time to finish the job.
A shouted string of gibberish filled Evabelle's ears, followed quickly by a pale green flash of light that lit up the car, and somehow sent all the werewolves flying back to a fifty yard radius all around the car.
"Get out!" Calandra shouted. "We're sitting ducks in here! And that spell won't hold them for long! It's the only one of those I've got in me! Now everyone go!"
Del hefted himself up and leapt to the door, yanking it open and shot out into the werewolf infested night. Tru bounded after him, followed by Faux. Kai scrambled over the seats to Evabelle and Gem, and though it went against everything Evabelle knew to be common sense, she let him help her up to the door, his sister clinging to his back.
Evabelle stopped at the top, looking down at CJ and felt her heart leap into her throat. The boy was completely unconscious against the far side of the car. His face was pale, his glasses cracked and several inches away from him. Blood seeped through his the roughly done bandages and clothes, dripping onto the window. "CJ!" She cried.
"I'll get him!" Lucis exclaimed, leaping over the seats to his side. "Just hurry and go."
Evabelle tore her gaze away, closed her eyes, not daring to look as she leapt off of the car. She landed hard against the soft grass and her knees buckled. Slowly, she lifted her head and stared at the circling animals that all appeared to be in some dazed state.
Deftly, the others jumped out of the car beside Evabelle and took in what they were up against. Aza came last, landing hard like Evabelle. Her silver eyes widened. "Holy furry hell beasts." She muttered.
Evabelle couldn't have agreed more. It was a sea of brown, gray, and red fur. The moon was still a small sliver, but the wave of glinting yellow eyes nearly lit the night just as bright as if it had been a full moon.
"You know, I thought you said there weren't going to be any more monsters." Aza looked over at the mage.
An earsplitting howl cut through the night, making the hairs on the back of Evabelle's neck stand on end.
The spell broke and the beasts charged them all at once.
Instantly Evabelle found herself surrounded by the four Anahalians, Calandra, and Kai in a defense circle. Evabelle was pressed up against Aza and Gem, who was hugging her waist. CJ lay at the three girl's feet. Evabelle knelt down beside the boy, and though she was repulsed, pressed her hands against the more or less, open wound. CJ's eyes flickered open for a moment. "E-Evabelle?" He brought one of his hands up to his face and stared as though he had never seen such a wonder. "I-I'm m-" Then his eyes rolled back into his head. Evabelle didn't know how much more CJ could take. Her own hands shook as she pressed her palms against his shoulder, nearly slipping on her hero's blood. He needed to see a doctor, fast.
The snarls and howls filled the night, and Evabelle did everything she could to not have a total breakdown. Gem had her arms looped through one of Evabelle's, the blind girl's face buried in Evabelle's new clothes that the mage had miraculously managed to snag from someone before they had hit the road.
The Anahalians had drawn munera, each one transforming into a weapon best suited to the owner. Faux's lengthened into a staff, Tru's into a crossbow, Del's into twin onyx blades, and Lucis a long pearlescent sword. They each brought their weapons around so fluidly and graceful, taking each werewolf dared to charge. For a moment Evabelle watched entranced, but when that pale sword sank into one of the beasts and came out a drenched ruby, she tore her gaze away.
Aza, who had crouched down with Evabelle for a moment, popped back up just as a small glinting object whizzed by her ear. "Whoa! What was that?" She ducked.
"They have weapons?" Tru exclaimed as one nearly struck her arm, springing one of her arrows loose. "Werewolves don't use weapons."
Another projectile whistled just over Calandra's head. "They have blow darts!" Aza yelled.
Evabelle had started a painful game of looking at the ashen CJ, soaked in blood and back up at the beasts attacking her other friends. Both were her horrendous sights, and she couldn't decide which was better. Currently she was back to watching the wolves pouring over the hills that were sure to overwhelm them all too quickly. The beast's mouths were frothing and their yellow eyes were alight with that terrifying hunger. Evabelle's heart climbed up into her throat as one of the wolves nearly slipped past the circle, by leaping high over the guardian's heads. She ducked down and closed her eyes tight, fearing the worst, but their protectors were not so easily dodged. Del spun around, whipping one of his knives high over his head, slicing the beast's stomach. It howled and fell with Del still swiping at it.
Gem's grip tightened on Evabelle's arm, so hard that it actually hurt. Evabelle wanted to comfort her, but she had no idea how she was supposed to do that.
The darts continued to fly through the air, one nearly hitting Faux right in the face, another almost catching Kai in the leg. And they probably weren't even seeing them all in this dark and chaotic battle. Evabelle could only imagine what kind of poisons could be on them.
Aza leapt forward to help, but Del stuck out an arm. "No, not for you."
"Come on I've been training." Aza complained. "I'd have more of a chance if you would have let me practice with actual weapons." She feigned to the side trying to get around him, but Del was not easily fooled. In one motion he managed to bring down his blade on one of the beast's heads and at the same time, caught Aza around the waist and thrust her back into the circle that was beginning to fall apart anyway as their group became more besieged by the oncoming pack.
"Jerk!" Aza screamed at Del, who ignored her. Evabelle reared back as her friend nearly toppled over her also just saving her from one of the darts as she felt it skim passed her nose. The little deadly pin crashed into the ground a few feet from her. Aza nearly stepped on it.
"Look out!" Evabelle warned.
Aza glanced down, and then scooped it up. The dart, on closer observation, was more of a miniaturized pellet with a small glass containment on the back for a sludgy black liquid that Evabelle assumed would get into your blood stream and kill you in some painful way. Aza narrowed her eyes at the little weapon, trying to see it better through the darkness. The back was cracked and oozing out the dark fluid. For some reason Evabelle felt she should know what it was, like she'd seen something like that somewhere else.
"I'm going to figure this is poison." Aza reasoned, watching another drop of the substance fall into the grass.
"Drop it!" Calandra shouted suddenly. She had just cast a spell that had created a wall of dust that appeared to be confusing the animals as well as keeping a descent portion of them at bay. Now she strode over to them, her cloak billowing and eyes wide.
Aza had been so surprised that she had dropped the dart. "Don't worry, Calandra. I didn't get any of it on me."
Calandra had reached them and was now glaring at the dart in the grass. She muttered something causing one of her hands burst into that pale, peridot green that had lit the car when she had temporarily blasted the werewolves away. For a several moments she stared silently at the slug then she whirled on Evabelle. "And what about you? Did you get any on you?"
Evabelle shook her head. "I almost got hit, but I..." She trailed off as she watched Calandra crouch down and pick up the projectile once more and examine it.
"This can't be happening." The mage whispered. Then she rose swiftly and turned around right as one of the wolves leapt directly at them. A large white winged mass appeared out of nowhere and crashed right into the beast knocking it aside. "Lucis!" Calandra cried.
The golden haired Anahalian shielded the four of them. He swung his sword through the air halting all the werewolves that dared to face him. Calandra's spell had worn off and the monsters just kept coming. Another whizzing bullet soared passed them and Calandra tackled Lucis to the ground, rescuing him from the small weapon.
However, the wolves took their advantage and charged through. Faster than lightning, Lucis rolled out from under Calandra, pulled out another munera and spoke the words of the shielding spell. The urgency in his voice and the adrenaline rushing through his veins must have heated the magic. There was a flash of light from the feather and the wolves ricocheted off of it, like they'd just slammed themselves into a trampoline.
"Good, now keep that shield up." Calandra rose to her feet and turned to the others. "Del! Faux! Tru! Get over here!" She gestured them over.
"Calandra, what's going on?" Lucis asked, still keeping his hold on the feather. "Why are you-"
"Keep that barrier up!" The mage repeated and Lucis continued to chant the spell. "Averno's concoction." Calandra replied dryly, after a moment. "The Annihilator poison, the wolves have it. That's what their firing at us."
Lucis's hand twitched. He didn't turn to stare at her, but his stiff posture showed his shock.
"Wait, are you saying that that's the stuff?" Aza stared at the dart she had been holding. "That's the stuff turning Anahalians into Annihilators?"
Evabelle suddenly found it very hard to swallow.
The others reached them, Del looking very disgruntled. "How long is this going to take considering that we're under attack by a pack of feral beasts?"
Calandra ignored him. "Have any of you been hit by their darts?" Calandra inquired.
All of them shook their heads just as a large group of the wolves dashed forward and Evabelle amazedly watched all three Anahalians turn and take them down; Faux, with his staff, Del with his knives, and Tru slamming them with the butt of her crossbow. Then the three of them spun back to the mage.
Calandra nodded. "Then do another shield circle right now." She pointed at the dart. "They have Averno's poison."
All of their eyes widened. "You can't be serious-" Tru began, but just then another firing of the little poison pellets flew toward them along with another horde of beasts charging them.
Calandra dashed past them to take the monsters on. "Do it now!" She shouted over her shoulder.
Quickly, the other three got into position and began chanting the spell, except for Tru, who was staring after the mage. "Calandra!" She exclaimed. "This circle won't hold against an entire pack. We may be able to keep it up for a little bit, but-"
"Don't you think I know that?" Calandra responded. "That's why Kai and I won't be in the circle. We will stay out here and defend you."
The mage's eyes met with the vampire's, who gave a small nod.
Evabelle felt Gem's hands tighten even more as she heard the little girl whisper. "Kai," Evabelle glanced at the little elf. Gem was biting her lip and her eyes were filled with tears threatening to spill over. More than anything Evabelle wanted to wrap her arms around the little girl.
"NO!"
Evabelle jumped so badly that she nearly shook off poor Gem. She whipped her head around to stare at the Anahalian who had shouted.
Lucis was staring at Calandra, his gaze, so intense that Evabelle was surprised that the mage didn't melt from that severity of his stare.
"Don't you dare break the circle, Lucis." Calandra murmured. Kai was now beside her making sure the beasts didn't attack her from behind.
"You can't fight all of them alone!" Lucis shouted. "It's suicide!"
"If any of you are hit by their darts, you'll be turned into monsters yourselves." Calandra replied stubbornly.
"If you get bit, so will you!" Lucis countered.
"Vampires don't turn into werewolves." Kai gasped, staggering back, blood dripping from his mouth. "I'm already in a fallen state. It's not like I can fall any lower."
"But vampires can still die." Lucis whispered.
Gem released Evabelle and jumped to her feet. "Kai, please don't do this!" She cried. Her tears were now pouring down her cheeks. "Please, you promised you would never leave me again!"
Kai turned to look at his little sister. "I don't plan on dying, Gem." Then his gaze slid to Evabelle's. There was pleading in them. Protect her. Then he whirled around to take on the next wolf.
Gem fell to her knees and Evabelle reached out a hand to comfort her, but then she caught sight of her friend's blood that still streaked her hands and suddenly remembered CJ. Her friend's breathing had become very shallow. How was this happening? How were they going to make it? We are going to die. Evabelle's own eyes became misty.
Aza knelt on CJ's other side and now she pressed her hands against the wound. "We're not going to die." She said firmly and Evabelle wasn't sure whether she was talking to her or whether she was trying to convince herself. "None of us are going to die. We're going to make it."
Evabelle glanced up at the Anahalians encircling them. None of them looked calm. They kept chanting the spell to keep the shield strong, but they were all watching Calandra and Kai with a nervous tension.
Evabelle's gaze landed on Lucis. He didn't look any worse than the others, but Evabelle had a feeling that this was killing him. He was always calm in these chaotic circumstances. It was one of the things that made him a great leader, but now he was hiding and letting others take the brunt of the fight. Lucis was someone who cared about other far more than himself. Evabelle had known that from the day she had met him. And now here he was unable to do anything. Evabelle had read books about the heroes who felt the worst when they could do nothing, when they felt helpless that's what broke them.
She didn't know what made her do it, but soon she found herself wiping her hands on the grass and rising to her feet. She came up behind Lucis and placed a hand on his shoulder, causing him to turn his head and stare. "Evabelle," he whispered.
Evabelle wasn't sure if she was helping, but she thought she did see some of the strain leave his face.
"Will you say the spell with me?" Lucis asked.
Evabelle almost drew away at those words. "I can't do magic. I tried, but I-"
"You can, I know it." Lucis's blue eyes were earnest.
Faux's words spoke in Evabelle's mind. "He needs someone to believe in." Before this moment, Evabelle had not truly believed those words, but now maybe Faux may have been right. Or, more likely, Lucis just needed her support. She doubted she could ever help in anything magic. But with her hand on his shoulder and his ocean eyes boring into her, she couldn't refuse. Finally she nodded.
Silently, Evabelle listened to the words that the four Anahalians spoke until she felt confident that she could say the spell correctly. Then her lips followed the patterns the others formed until she felt a strange warbling sensation that spread from her hand on Lucis's shoulder and through the rest of her body.
Evabelle adjusted to the strange stir in her nervous system until she was able to say the spell as well as pay attention to what was going on. Her eyes travelled to their two champions. Kai was taking on the monsters beside Calandra as the mage spoke the words to her own spells. They were doing amazingly well, considering there was only the two of them versus the never ceasing amount of werewolves.
But it wouldn't last. Evabelle knew that it couldn't last.
Kai stood out like a ghost on the dark moor as he streaked through the animals, doing his best to not be over powered by keeping on the move. He was scary fast and strong as he threw one of the beasts several feet into the air. All seemed well, but the wolves didn't stop and the sheer mass of them slowed the vampire until the beasts were able to tackle him, mounding on top of him like some horribly literal game of dog-pile.
Evabelle's hand tightened on Lucis's shoulder. Come on, Kai. She thought. You have to break through. Please. Lucis had gone stiff too as he watched what was happening, knowing he couldn't do anything for him.
Suddenly the field lit in a blazing fire, sending the wolves into a wild panic including those piled on top of the vampire. They leapt up, howling and scattered, as the stunning ruby haired mage bound over the flames to Kai, pulling him to his feet. Calandra kept one hand up to keep the fire burning higher, warding the monsters off temporarily.
Evabelle, being so focused on Kai and Calandra, let out a squeal as a wolf jumped right at her and Lucis, but he bounced off like the rest. Even with Calandra and Kai out there, they couldn't keep all the werewolves back from their circle. Every time a wolf rammed itself into the shield, Evabelle could feel the vibrations, ricochet through her, some more painful than others.
"Faux, are you okay?" Aza's voice cut through Evabelle's mind.
Still with her hand on Lucis and murmuring the spell, she turned her head to look at russet Anahalian. His entire body was shaking, and by the light of the fire set by Calandra, Evabelle could make out the sweat rolling down his taut white face. Faux's eyes spoke of exhaustion as he stumbled through the words, gasping as if struggling for air.
"Faux, are you sure you weren't hit by that stuff?" Aza's voice sounded calm, but her gray eyes spoke otherwise as she watched him.
Faux nodded as Tru turned to look at her cousin. "Drop the spell now, Faux." She said sternly, temporarily cutting off her own chant.
This time he shook his head, his normally light playful gaze, glaring with a tired but stubborn determination.
"You'll kill yourself!" Tru snapped. "Don't you dare even think about it! You drop the spell now! The three of us can handle it."
"She's right." Del spoke, surprisingly agreeing with the blue Anahalian. "We can take care of this. Drop it."
Faux opened his mouth to continue the spell, but finally his trembling knees collapsed beneath him and his area of the barrier broke. Quickly Tru and Del adjusted, filling in the space, and enclosing Faux in the middle as well.
Gem walked over to the pale Anahalian and put a hand to his forehead.
"Is he going to be alright?" Aza asked.
"The shield spell, or any spell really," Tru began as Del began to chant again. "Drains our energy, some spells more than others. Faux should have stopped ages ago, but he's still a man, too worried about his pride." Then she too began to say the spell again.
The words themselves had faded from Evabelle's lips as she stared down at Faux, who was breathing heavily, his eyes flickering open and closed, with the little elf girl murmuring something under her breath, her small hands still on his forehead. Then her gaze slid over to the unconscious CJ, where Aza's hands pressed against the bloody wound. Two men down now, and two more outside with barely any time left. For that matter if Faux was down didn't that mean the others would be going soon?
Suddenly an intense pain shook Evabelle's insides, rattling her from head to toe. She cried out as several werewolves pounded against them all at once. Without Faux, the others took the brunt harder as well, shuddering at the attack, but miraculously not breaking the spell.
Kai seemed to appear out of nowhere to tear the beasts back from their circle with terrifying ferocity. Those ashen eyes were wide, reflecting the flames that still lit the night, as he ripped at the monsters. Evabelle stared at the vampire, finally getting a good look at him since he had run off to fight the werewolves. His nice clothes were torn to shreds, claw marks and even teeth scored his body, his blood was all over, but he hardly seemed to notice as his own claws slashed out against the monsters, tearing them open, their blood spattering onto the vampire along with his own.
Evabelle felt sick. She had been terrified of Kai when she had found him drinking Gem's blood, but this right before her now was what was truly terrifying. She knew now that Kai was a good man, but that did not stop him from being a horrifically dangerous one too.
Lucis lurched forward and gasped, and Evabelle thought for one frightening moment, that he was going to collapse too, just like Faux had. But when she looked into his face, she saw that he was staring beyond them to where Calandra had been keeping the fire up. The werewolves had had new courage and stormed over the flames, putting them out as they charged the mage.
Calandra's mouth moved rapidly, but Evabelle knew that she wouldn't be able to finish the spell before she was taken down. Evabelle turned back to Kai, who was rolling in the grass with not one, not two, but three werewolves that now officially had him pinned against the ground. No matter how much he struggled against them, he couldn't move. The long yellow teeth moved toward his face as one of the werewolves leapt at Calandra's throat. This time Calandra couldn't save Kai and the vampire couldn't save the mage. Their time was officially up.
Something glinted through the night, streaking across the field, and right before Evabelle's eyes, the werewolves staggered back from Kai howling wildly, screaming in what Evabelle assumed was pain.
From the dying ashes of the fire, Evabelle could just make out the long shaft of an arrow jutting from one of the beasts. The others each had them too.
Tru was still in the circle, so they weren't here arrows. Evabelle looked over to see the wolves that had surrounded Calandra also flailing and yowling also with long projectiles piercing their thick hides.
All of them whipped their heads around to see where the rain of arrows was now coming from. A tall, burly man in a thick cloak, shadowed against the stars raised his bow and fire arrow after arrow, among the beasts, never missing, not once. He fired multiples at once, never losing rhythm, and apparently never running out of arrows. This man was an army unto himself, but still Evabelle wasn't sure if he could stop all of these wolves.
Just as the thought had crossed her mind light began to rise from behind the man, as though the sun had decided to rise about eight hours early. But as the light grew, Evabelle, saw that it was not the sun, but a cluster of miniature glowing beings, grouped together, creating a dazzling scene.
The little creatures soared up in one humongous wave and crashed onto the field against the snarling howling beasts, only making the animal's cries more loud and piercing.
And that wasn't all. The Earth had begun to shake beneath all of their feet, and Evabelle continued to stare in astonishment as another being rose over the hill, levitating on a piece of earth. The light from the glowing creatures lit the being's features, revealing fiery hair and a determined grin. The thin woman's arms were raised, and Evabelle knew that this was the one causing the earthquake. Fissures split open as the trembling continued, the wolves, scrambling to stay on the surface, as the world fell out from under them.
Evabelle was in too much shock to feel relief, but she no longer felt completely petrified as she watched the bowman, the glowing creatures, and the sorceress pummel the werewolves as though they were no more than a group of misbehaving puppies. Finally a few of the beasts got smart enough to run away. The large cloaked man raised his bow to finish them, but the woman on the floating rock, hovered over to him, and put a hand on his shoulder to stop him.
The three Anahalians lowered their arms, finally breaking the shield spell, and Evabelle suddenly felt a wave tension leave her, as if she had been somehow tethered to it. Finally she let go of Lucis and almost let herself fall down to her knees again, when the sound of muttered cursing met her ears.
Turning her head, Evabelle saw Calandra stomping over to them. Though the mage looked pretty exhausted herself, she was awake enough to look furious. Evabelle was about to ask why when the other woman leapt off her piece of earth and sprinted to Calandra. "Callie!" She cried. "Are you alright? Those monsters didn't hurt you did they? Oh, you have no idea how happy I am--"
"Enough!" Calandra hissed to the woman, who as she got closer to them began to resemble the cold mage more and more. In fact this woman looked so much like Calandra it was scary. She was so very similar and so very different from the mage that they all knew. This woman was a little shorter than Calandra and a little thinner, but she had the same auburn hair, and creamy skin. Her eyes were green instead of black and there was a playful light to them, unlike Calandra's. The woman was beaming, definitely not Calandra.
"Welcome!" The woman exclaimed, not seemingly affected by the cold stare of her daughter. "I am Shaundee Valentine, owner of Kalas-Hem, the sanctuary where the party never truly ends! I'm so glad you all seem well." Shaundee clapped her hands together, as though they hadn't just had some huge battle with multiple packs of werewolves that tried to kill or turn into demonic beast.
Calandra folded her arms. "Actually we are not all well." We have an injured boy who needs immediate medical attention."
The others stepped aside, revealing CJ, who actually seemed to be waking up to Evabelle's enormous relief, even though he was still forbiddingly pale, as well as Faux, who also to Evabelle's relief was actually sitting up.
"As you can see that boy is severely injured and requires immediate medical attention." Calandra finished harshly.
The woman's eyes locked onto Calandra and sadness crept into them. "Calandra," She murmured almost too quietly for Evabelle to hear, but she did. The way the woman said it was so gentle and so full of love that Evabelle did not understand why Calandra was looking at her with such disdain.
Shaundee shook herself. "Oh, dear!" Her gaze traveled onto CJ, who, granted appeared to be moving and muttering something at least, still didn't look too good. "Yes, of course," She turned her head. "Patrick's back at home. I know he'll be able to help." She turned around and gestured for them all to follow her. "One of you carry the human and another one take the other Anahalian." She instructed.
Lucis picked up CJ, careful not to make his shoulder worse and started after Calandra's mother. Faux pushed both Tru's and Del's hands away. "Guys, I'm fine." He gave them a lopsided grin. He pushed himself to his feet. "See? All better." Of course, then he stumbled. Both the dark and blue Anahalian's caught Faux. It was one of the weirdest things seeing Tru and Del actually helping someone like that together. Then Evabelle saw the glare that the two of them shared as they helped Faux steady himself, and it felt a bit more normal.
Evabelle turned now to follow Shaundee and Lucis to this Kalas Hem place, realizing that it gone all dark again. The fairies or pixies... or whatever that had come, were gone. She didn't how she didn't notice them leave. Squinting through the night, she couldn't find any sign of the cloaked bowman either.
Finally she decided to let it go, when Aza linked arms with her and began to lead her forward with everyone else. "Wow," Aza murmured. "What a day."
Evabelle sighed. "No kidding."
~(A/N: Please vote and comment if you liked this! Sorry for the super long chapter! I hope it was entertaining enough to keep you reading! I also will apologize if it felt a little rough. I've been reading it over and over, trying to fix it up and make it good, but my brain is officially fried and I'm just too tire to keep trying. So if you find any mistakes, don't be afraid to point them out. It would be very much appreciated. Oh and I have Gem up at the top for this chapter. I felt it was about time she got a pic above a chapter. :)
Alright so the challenge is just a few for fun questions:
If you were an Anahalian, what would your wings like? What would your munera weapon be?
Also just for the heck of it...team werewolf or team vampire??
