(One) Angel's Café
"Let me guess, a medium white chocolate mocha with skim milk, and whipped cream. Am I right, Benny?" I asked, but I already knew I was correct.
"Wow, you're getting better every week, Castiel!" Benny, a regular at my self-owned café, exclaimed. He handed over the correct amount of money with an approving nod.
"Well, I try my best." I accepted the money, and clicked open the register with a confident smile on my lips.
It's been a little over two years since I opened Angel's Café in this small town in Kansas. And, it took less than a few weeks for the whole town to know about it. Everyone seemed to love my unique, little coffee shop. And, well, I loved every part of it too.
"Meg!" I called towards the break room at the back of the café.
"Huh?" A muffled voice asked through the door.
"White mocha, skim, with whipped cream!" I called, rolling my eyes. She could at least try to be more secretive when she slept on the job.
Meg was one of my very few workers at the café. She had insisted on working here when I apparently "kept complaining about my stupid, caffeine addicted, shop." Plus, she was one of my few good friends from high school, so I couldn't help but hire her when I was in need of help.
She stumbled out of the door while straightening out her white, uniformed shirt. She combed through her shoulder length, strawberry-blond hair with her fingers before walking over to the prep area.
"Got it," she mumbled, and started preparing the caffeinated drink.
"Wash your hands first," I hissed in her direction, while I continued to smile politely at the awaiting Benny.
"Yeah, yeah. Keep your pants on, Cassie." She responded, finishing off the drink with whipped cream.
I groaned. Everyday I had to remind myself that if I fired her, I would be working 10 hour shifts. Even though I loved my little café to death, and she was a good friend, I would like to keep the stress at a minimum. Because, working from six a.m. to three p.m. everyday is a bit rough.
"Skim, white mocha with whipped cream." Meg handed me the drink with a smug smile on her face.
"Thanks," I sneered at her. I turned to face my costumer, and handed the mocha to Benny with a cheeky smile.
"Sorry for the delay," I apologized as he accepted the drink.
"Nah, it's always worth the wait here." He responded, and nodded to me before heading out the door.
"It's slow today," Meg commented as she leaned her hip against the prep counter.
"I'm surprised you even noticed," I grumbled, taking a wash cloth and wiping down the empty, circular tables in the shop.
"I didn't get much last night, Cassie. And, since it seemed pretty dead today, I thought I'd catch up on my beauty sleep." She explained with a yawn.
I let out a short laugh. "Beauty sleep? You better go back in the break room then, because you need some catching up to do!"
Meg dramatically put her hand on her chest, and gasped in mock distress. "Well, thanks, jerk!"
I couldn't help the emerging smile on my lips as I finished wiping down the last table.
"That was pretty good, wasn't it?" I asked, feeling quite proud of the comeback.
She rolled her eyes, and crossed her arms before answering. "Yeah, sure. It was pretty good, suck-up."
I smirked. "I try,"

I locked the front, glass door of the Angel's Café with my only key.
"Well, I'll see you tomorrow, Meg." I said, offering a smile.
"Yeah, see ya, Cassie." She responded, shoving her hands in her pockets.
I squeezed my eyes shut. "Why do you call me Cassie? You're making it sound like a girl's name." I complained. I usually try to ignore her childish pet names, but that one really got under my skin.
"Because I can, so I will," she replied simply, a small smirk on her lips.
I sighed, waving off the annoying comment.
"Whatever. See ya," I said, turning to leave.
"See ya, Clarence." She called once I turned my back.
"Don't call me that either!" I called back, laughing. I shook my head as I turned the corner and walked the usual route to my apartment.
When I took off my tan overcoat and scampered into the kitchen, it was already five o'clock.
The walk back home from Angel's Café usually took about an hour, I guess I was distracted today. With that kind of walk, most people would invest their money in a car or bus tickets, but I preferred to walk anyways. So, I spent my extra money on books (or repairs/updates in my café, of course).
I quickly threw a pizza in the oven and walked into the small living area of my one bedroom apartment.
I examined the various books my 6 foot tall by 3 foot wide, oak book cabinet.
I picked out a thick book on Greek mythology and began reading.
They are not exciting, action fighting, hero saving, comic books; No. They are informational. I try to expand what I know everyday, to increase my vocabulary. Because, the more you know, the better you'll be.
