(Four) Cassie & Deano
The next several mornings when I opened up the Café, Dean Winchester walked through the door at the same time he did every day.
I would always greet him with, "Good Morning, Dean. Coffee?"
And he would always respond with, "Mornin' Cas, sure."
It became an automatic thing to do, like a little tradition between the two of us. But, we never continued our conversations from the usual good morning greetings, or "Refill, Dean?"
To be honest, I was dying to know more about who this guy was. His mysterious appearance, his green eyes, his short sandy blond hair, his worn jeans, and leather jacket - I was curious. I always thought I knew everyone who came into Angel's Café like the back of my hand, but whenever he walks in, I draw a blank line.
I need to know more about this guy.
"Meg?" I called.
"What? What do ya want, Cassie?" She asked, exciting the break room.
"Could you watch my station? I'm going to go talk to Dean again." I said, wiping my hands on my pants.
Her face twisted up into a silly smile before she started laughing. I stood in place, watching her bend over from laughter.
"What's so funny?" I snapped, furrowing my eyebrows at her.
"Oh, nothing." She said, wiping an invisible tear from her eye. "You just can't keep it in your pants, is all."
"What is that suppose to mean?! I'm just curious about the guy!" I defended, placing my hands on my hips.
"Uh-huh. And that's why you watch him 24/7? Dude, you've even asking about this 'Dean' guy for weeks! And all you want to know is what his background is? Either that means, one: you have a little man-crush on the guy. Or two: you're the lamest, nerdiest, man on this planet." She crossed her arms in front of her chest, as if she was proving a point.
I just scoffed, and started heading over to where Dean sat. "You don't know me, Meg!"
"I'm glad I don't, Cassie!" She countered.
I smoothed out my messy, brown hair before striding over to Dean's usual table.
"Hey," I greeted when I sat down.
"Cassie?" He asked, a smile playing on his lips.
I let out out a nervous laugh.
Note to self: Meg is so going to die when I get back.
"She calls me all sorts of stupid names..." I explained, rubbing the back of my neck in embarrassment.
"No, it's cool, man. My girlfriend use to do that all the time to me too," he said, shrugging.
Girlfriend? "Oh, you have a girlfriend?" I asked, frowning slightly. I'm not sure why, but it made my uncomfortable to think that he's in a relationship.
He shook his head, taking the mug of coffee in his hand. "No, not anymore. But, she used to call me all these stupid nicknames and things. I haven't seen her for a long time, actually."
I nodded, and let out a sigh I didn't know I was holding in. "Oh."
He took a sip of his coffee, watching me from over the rim the whole while.
"What about you, Cas? Special lady in your life?" He asked, amusement in his voice.
I shook my head, and glanced out the window. "No. I don't have much luck with woman."
"Explain."
I shrugged, unsure of how to explain my bad luck when it comes to dating. "I've only been in a relationship a couple times, but each of those times it ended horribly. We just didn't click, or something didn't work out. And, well, woman are insane." I explained, laughing at the end.
Dean held up his mug with a returning smile. "Amen to that."
I silently chuckled to myself. Just a few weeks ago I wouldn't even imagine having a conversation with this guy. But, now, he's like a new person- a friend.
"We should hang out sometime." I blurted out, cringing after I realized what I just foolishly suggested. Why would Dean Winchester want to spend time with a guy like me?
Dean shrugged, leaning back in his chair and draping his left arm over the back. "Sure, why not? Where?"
My eyes lit up, sitting forwards in my chair. "Well, maybe I could show you around the Central Park? I mean, I'm assuming you're new to the town... because I still don't recognize you."
Dean's lips quirked up into a cute smile. "It's still bothering you that you don't know where I came from?" He asked, but he continued to stare at his mug of coffee.
"I just like to be informed."
"Well," said Dean, his cute smile turning sarcastic. "All you need to know is that you can mind your own business, Cassie."
I leaned back in my chair, and smiled in return. He's not cracking me that easily.
"Okay, look," I began, crossing my arms on the table in front of me. "Stop being a douche, and accept my offer. I get off my shift at 11 every other week day- so tomorrow. If you show up tomorrow, I can walk you to Central Park, and introduce you to the town after I get done working. Sound good? Good. See ya tomorrow, Deano."
And, with that, I stood up from the chair and swiftly walked back to behind the register.
Not to brag or anything, but I felt pretty badass when Dean couldn't even respond to the sudden arrangement I threw at him. Looks like Dean isn't as powerful as he thought he was. I mean, after all, I did read a few books on planning dates.
