Movement 5
Music is in the media.
(Y/n) hummed a little tune as she watched over your pot on the stove. The days have been getting colder, depicting a change in the season. She loved it when the seasons changed, because it showed how the Earth can change as well. Just like humans. It was an interesting observation she made, and it honestly fascinated her.
Another person has also fascinated her, Licht. Somehow the two made it a routine to start a conversation on the phone at the most random time. Sometimes it was her that called him, and on rare occasion it was him who called her. She knew he always had a busy schedule due to his piano playing, but (Y/n) always got way more happy when Licht called her; even though she knew he was scowling on the other end. She would hear stories of his piano playing, or sometimes she would just ramble on while Licht listened. (Y/n) thought it was nice to have a little exchange like this, it made her a lot less lonely than she already was.
It also brought her closer to the one person she most wanted to meet, perhaps closer two people can get in a week. It made (Y/n)'s chest flutter with glee. She cherished the feeling, because she never knew when it was going to end.
(Y/n)'s cellphone buzzed just as she finished stirring the contents in her pot. She answered excitingly knowing well who it was.
"(L/n)." She heard Licht's deep voice greet her on one end.
"Todoroki-san! Nice to hear your voice again." She greeted happily.
"Did you finish practice?" She asked.
----------------------------------------
On the other end Licht's eyebrow twitched as Kranz watched and urged him. He made subtle gestures giving Licht a sign what to say, although Licht didn't appreciate the "help."
"A while ago...hey (L/n)..." Licht trailed off as he pondered what he was going to say. Kranz moved his hands gesturing for him to continue while uttering a quiet, "Ask her." He practically had hearts hanging around his head that made Licht want to gag.
"You want to meet each other? In the city? Maybe around that tea shop you love?" He asked slowly even more hesitance was in his tone. He couldn't believe he just asked that.
"Really? For real? I would!" She exclaimed in an excited voice, almost a squeal. Licht for some unknown reason felt relief wash over him. Like a weight he didn't know that was there on his head was lifted.
"Ok, meet me in half an hour." He said before hanging up. Kranz pat Licht on the back a little too round. He grinned widely looking at Licht with a set of proud eyes.
Licht glared at him shoving the phone in Kranz hands, "Don't you dare call this a date."
"But isn't it one? You would have never asked her if you didn't get that push." Kranz said patting Lichts back again.
"I'd rather be practicing or something." Licht mumbled stuffing his hands in his pockets as he scowled at the ground.
Kranz tutted shrugging, "Now I know that's a lie. We both know this might do you some good since you have been getting frustrated during practices." He said suddenly sounding a little bit serious. Licht gave a sound of annoyance, almost a little growl, he stubbornly turned his head away and treaded out the door. Licht, even through all the annoyance and frustration, couldn't deny to himself that he wanted to see you again. Even though he tried really hard. Something ached in his chest, and it only made him more aggravated. Perhaps seeing you could calm him down? He huffed as he walked away to the door. He arrived in front of the desired area leaning against the wall as he let himself get lost in his thoughts.
"Todoroki-san!" A sudden call as well as bark snapped him to attention. (Y/n) approached him looking as bright as ever. Her dog as well, both caught his attention as his heart skipped. He nodded towards her still with his neutral expression, but the mind within him was ecstatic.
"It's been a while since we've seen each other physically." She said.
"Isn't talking on the phone enough?" He asked, their phone conversations always kept him occupied. Somehow her rambles never made him bored, and it honestly was worth his time. Even though he rigorously practices, he still manages his time when she calls. Perhaps he wanted to.
"Ehh, but it's not quite the same thing." She said scratching her cheek with the tiniest blush on her cheeks. Her dog barked pulling at his harness and making her trip forward a bit towards Licht.
"Even (dogs name) is excited to see you. He must really like you then." She said chuckling. Licht looked down towards the animal as his mind became alleviate and his mood more sweet. He pet the head of her dog, he really liked the innocent look of the animal.
"Wow, usually he would growl when he's on duty. He really does like you!" (Y/n) said adding a slight giggle in the end. What she said made Licht raise a brow.
"On duty?" He asked staring at her. Her body froze for a millisecond but then she laughed it off.
"It's nothing. (Dogs name) is just a service dog I have."
Licht blinked, he knew she never mentioned (dogs name) being a service dog before. It made Licht grow curious.
"A service dog?"
"Oh! Todoroki-san look!" (Y/n) already up and ran to something else before he could question her. He gave a hard look at her for being ignored, but none the less followed her anyway. He found her staring through a glass window inside a crane game.
"These are so cute." She said in awe. Licht followed her line of sight to the pair of stuffed birds next to each other, one blue and one yellow. Her eyes shined like that of a child, being brutally honest, it reminded Licht of himself sometimes. Even he had to admit they were absolutely adorable. But somehow, her smile and the shine in her eyes caught his attention.
"We should get it!" She said with an eager gleam.
Licht scoffed, "These things? Isn't that childish?" He asked an ironic remark with an impassive tone.
"Not really! Here, I think I can..hmm.." She trailed off as you searched your coat pocket for some coins. Her smile perking up again as she entered the coins into the slot and gave a focused stare through the glass. Licht observed her intense stare, she hummed to herself as she precisely moved the lever.
"Almost got them..." She mumbled as her steady gaze did not move. The yellow bird had successfully been taken, however the blue bird had not and fell just before.
"Aww." (Y/n) drawled out disappointed, she got the tiny stuffed bird in her hands.
"Well at least I got one!" She exclaimed her smile still wide.
"So are you happy you got your toy?" Licht asked disinterested.
"Hm, not mine. Yours!" She exclaimed. Licht' eyes widened slightly as she took his hand and put the yellow bird in. She enclosed it in his palm giving him another bright smile. His eyes remained widened as he slowly looked between her and the bird. It happened again, she gave him something so easily without expecting anything.
"Why?" He asked, he really wanted to know why.
"Because why not? I was hoping to get the two birds, one for me and one for you. But I messed up, whoops?" She said nervously chuckling and rubbing the back of her head.
"But why me?" He asked as he clutched the stuff bird. His annoyed expression returned as he stared at her.
(Y/n) gave a tiny smile, her eyelids lowered slightly giving her a relaxed look as compared to Licht.
"We're friends aren't we? And sometimes, people need a gesture of kindness." She said simply as she grinned. Licht, caught off guard let his stern expression falter. His heart beat quickened and he could feel it; (Y/n) somehow gave off an unknown warmth to him. He had to forced himself to look away, anymore and he might even break. She was too kind.
"It's a shame I couldn't get the other one. But I don't have anymore coins with me." She said giving off a chuckle. Licht knew she was disappointed, but she didn't want anyone to see it.
"If you want it so badly, I'll get it." He said, it was quiet almost like a whisper. He would like to admit he was a little embarrassed but he willed himself to remain stern. (Y/n) looked a bit shocked at him.
"Really?"
"Of course I can, I am an angel. And an angel does not fail." He said.
"I don't know what that has to do with it. But you're welcome to try! I'll be cheering!"
Licht felt his chest lighten once again, as he nodded at her. A slight aura of determination set around him as he focused on the machine. Failure was for certain, as it was his first time attempting a crane machine, but he was willing to try for (Y/n). It was odd really, one act of encouragement over something so trivial made him feel..joy. His eyes stayed in one place, stiff as he maneuvered the machine. (Y/n) stared, a change of emotions spread across her face as Licht collected the bird.
"Wow Todoroki-san! You really did get it!" She exclaimed as he handed the bird. She gushed over it ever so slightly as she felt the soft fabric.
She grinned at him, "Now we have a pair! Thank you!" She exclaimed gratefully. Licht felt his cheeks grow warmer, he had to turn his face away again to hide the color appearing. His will to hide it was slowly degrading.
"Hm, Licht you want to take a walk by the pond close by?" She asked pointing ahead of him. He nodded as his expression went back to normal. Of course he originally didn't want to come out of the hotel, so he didn't plan anything. (Y/n) took her dog by the leash as she walked alongside Licht. She hummed as she watched the scenery, meanwhile Licht became lost in his thoughts. He had so many things to think about with his piano career, but now somehow (Y/n) ended up there at the last second. It made Licht stop and his head shake. He glanced slightly to notice she was not next to him.
It caused a slight panic in him, "(L/n)?" He looked around until he saw her standing by the body of water with her dog roaming around near her. He felt relieved, but he couldn't help the scowl on his face as he trudged to her. He grabbed her shoulder which caused her to stiffen.
"Oi idiot, don't just walk off like that." He said grumbling.
"Oh I'm sorry. It's just that I couldn't help myself, that I went and took a photo." She said showing her camera to him. She gave a guilty expression to the agitated one he gave her. He couldn't help himself as he lifted his hand giving her forehead a little flick with his fingers. She squeaked as she held her forehead.
"Just don't do it next time."
"Hey I said sorry." She pouted at him, but he only ignored her and stood next to her as he watched the open water.
"Why do you always take that camera around and snap pictures everywhere?" He asked her suddenly. She hummed closing her eyes in thought.
"Have you heard the phrase capturing the moment?" She asked and he nodded slowly.
"Yeah?"
"I believe deeply in that phrase. I take the photos because they're reminders and memories. Not only that but I record them in a journal too. I know it's nothing compared to the memories in your brain. But sometimes those memories can only be temporary. I wanted to reflect on these photos, you never know, there may come a time where these memories may become useless. But for now I want them here with me in a physical form, I find it precious." She explained, Licht was awestruck by her words. They slowly seeped into his mind and caused him to think. He didn't have an attachment to memories like she did, in fact some memories he would rather forget. But he felt, perhaps the piano was an example to him. He felt his mind perfectly capture the moment every time he pressed the keyboards. From her words he knew now, (Y/n) was much more complex than he originally thought.
"Hey Todoroki-san, why do you like piano?"
Now it was Licht's turn to close his eyes and think. No one really asked why he did like the piano, in fact he never really mulled over why in a while.
"I like it because it's something that brings me joy perhaps. Ever since I was young I was keen on learning it especially since my mother was a pianist. And I plan to pursue my career, life isn't without a set goal in mind." He said.
(Y/n) hummed pensively, "So if things with your career hit an extreme rock bottom, to the point where it would make even piano playing seem difficult. Would you still play it?" She asked.
Licht had to really think for a moment, and (Y/n) seemed really serious on hearing the answer.
"I would. I wouldn't give up on my passion so easily. Even if I have to fight for it." He said mirroring the seriousness. She paused for a second before her wide smile appeared again.
"Todoroki-san, you're so interesting!" She exclaimed before she went to full on laughing.
Licht raised a brow, "What's so funny?" He asked.
"Nothing!" She exclaimed. She then bent down and picked up a stray rock.
"Ever skipped rocks before?" She asked him. He shook his head making her give him a playful grin. She threw it and they both watched as the rock hopped across the water four times.
"Wow.." Licht mumbled impressed. (Y/n) elbowed his as she handed him a rock. Licht slowly threw the rock, but it only landed once. He glared at (Y/n) as he could hear her snicker. He tried two more times only to fail.
"You suck at throwing rocks."
"Whatever, it's childish anyway." He said annoyed as usual.
"Now now Todoroki-san, like the piano, it takes practice." (Y/n) said. She held out another rock to him giving an innocent, almost pleading tone. He only sighed as he took the rock again.
"Flick your wrist." She said before he threw it. He blinked but did what she said and he watched as the rock skipped three times. He gaped slightly as he stared. (Y/n) praised him for his accomplishment, and they both spent their time in the peaceful atmosphere as they watched the rocks skip across the water.
-----------------------------------------------
"Todoroki-san! That was fun! Sorry I had to cut it short again!" (Y/n) exclaimed.
"I wouldn't say short, we were out here for a couple hours. Besides I need to get back to practice anyway."
"Of course! Then I'll see you again maybe?" She said and he nodded. Her dog barked a good by as well, it caused Licht to have the tiniest of smiles come across his face. Of course as fast as it appeared it went away. She bowed to him for a good bye and walked away to the other end.
There was a request eating at his mind, he really wanted to say. But he felt insecure, his mind having an internal debate.
He grit his teeth and took a deep breath, "(L/n)!" He called causing you to stop and turn. His cheeks betrayed him again as they turned the lightest shade of pink. His heartbeat accelerated out of adrenaline.
"Did you...maybe want to...meet up again..tomorrow?" He asked pausing in between. (Y/n)'s blush was much more eminent but she smiled and waved at him.
"Of course!" She yelled before she turned and walked again.
Licht stood and watched her as his hand slowly went to his chest feeling the quickened pace. He stuffed his hands in his pockets as he scowled. He started the walk back to his hotel while he let his thoughts roam in his head.
A/N: Was Licht OOC? I felt he was OOC, somehow I make characters OOC the more I progress on a story. So I'm making the story like non-canon mixed with some slight canon. So possibly one of the events involving Licht will happen in this book.
