Movement 22
"What?" Licht breathed out his question, in shock. She nodded taking her hand in his, determination, hesitance, various emotions she conveyed to him.
"I'm going to tell you the truth about me. Everything I can remember. I don't want to keep you in the dark." She said, quietly ending her sentence.
"(Y/n), you don't have to force yourself to say anything." He said but she shook her head. "No. If I want to be sure of my feelings with you. I want you to know about me too. I don't want to lie and hide only for it to be too late." Licht furrowed his brows trying to make sense of what she meant. But he couldn't, and it made an unknown anxiety boil in him.
She tugged at his arm, "Let's go to the courtyard. It's quiet there." The two then walked through the halls, her dog following them quietly but curiously. They sat upon a stone bench, nothing but silence surrounding them.
"I guess I should start with my childhood." She said suddenly letting out a small giggle out of nowhere.
"I just thought you would've hated me as a child."
"Why?" He asked raising a brow.
"I was such a hyper child. To the point where it was annoying, and I was also very curious so I would try to get into people's business a lot." She explained laughing some more. Licht thought for a moment, but he even couldn't deny the truth.
"That sounds annoying for sure." He said bluntly.
"Oof you're honesty hurts." She joked giggling some more while she clutched her chest, the gradual fade of her light hearted expression caused the air around them to get tense.
"Everything seemed easier when I was younger. When I was ignorant to everything around me...."
------------------------------------------
A young (h/c), 5 year old girl curiously watched some frogs swim around the water. Two of them, freely swimming around chasing each other, the girl's eyes shined in wonder as they laid upon the two creatures.
"(Y/n)! Please don't stand too close near the edge." An older woman said in a light scold. The girl only giggled jogging as fast as her little legs could up to her.
"Mommy I found two frogs. They looked like they were playing tag!" She exclaimed pointing her finger to the pond. Her mother chuckled at the little girl's energy, smiling down at her warmly.
"Mommy how come I can't play tag with other kids?" She asked, she didn't seem sad, mostly curious. Her mother's warm expression faltered, but she corrected that before returning another smile.
She picked up her and cradled her lovingly. "Well, it's pretty complicated for you to understand right now (Y/n). Your body gets more tired than normal. But when you're little brother or sister comes, you'll have someone to play with right?" She asked, and the excited gleam in her eyes returned as she nodded.
"Yeah! Will they be here soon?" She asked bouncing. Her mother could only laugh. She started walking out of the park carrying (Y/n) with her.
"Yes, yes soon."
Not more than a few months later, (Y/n) spotted her mother and father coming from their car. She had been left with a babysitter for the entire day, so she felt beyond excited when she saw them come up to the door. "Welcome back!" She greeted with a big smile. Only for her to pause when she saw the pain stricken expressions gazing down at her. Her mother didn't even spare a glance, as she passed by her and strode to her room, slamming the door in the process. (Y/n) seemed confused as she tugged at her father's leg. Her father hesitated before kneeling down at her.
"What's wrong with mommy?" (Y/n) asked becoming sad. She then glanced back, "And what about the baby?" The mere words caused her father to flinch, and he sighed at her.
"(Y/n). Some mishap happened, and well let's just say the baby's not coming."
"Why? What happened? Is that why you're both upset?" She asked her questions quickly, all too confused. Her father didn't say a word to her, only giving commands to just forget everything and let them deal with the grief. She got upset herself not liking the situation. She only got left in the dark, her parents now avoiding any and all conversation about it until it became forgotten.
-------------------------------------------
"Wait, do you mean to tell me your little sibling-" He stopped watching her nod, and he could feel a painful knot form in his throat. He desperately wanted to comfort her, embrace her, and wipe away the pained look on her face. But he couldn't for he stayed frozen, letting his thoughts run wild and letting her continue.
The entire are remained quiet, as they sat together in silence. Everything felt tense, from (Y/n)'s expression to Licht eyeing her every second. She took a deep breath making Licht jolt, and then she laughed, bitterly.
"Even now I'm scared to admit it. But I told myself I would." She said shaking her head.
"You know I said I won't force you to say anything." He said his hand going up to squeeze her shoulder. She hummed but didn't smile, instead facing him quite seriously.
"I guess I should continue, right where my illness started."
---------------------------------------
"Mommy!" The little, 9 year old girl cried as she crouched into a little ball on the ground. A look of grimace on her face, feeling a heavy pain in her joints. She always had little pains every now and then, but never as intense as she was experiencing at the moment. She let tears flow from her eyes, breathing heavily. She could faintly hear the thumping of heavy steps, both her mother and father giving a look of shock as they saw their daughter on the ground.
"It...hurts.." She squeaked as she saw them through hazy vision. Their calls were deaf on her ears, as she finally let herself pass out.
Everyone wishes well being on their life, one way or another, everyone acts to their own accord. Everyone can act selfish once in a while. For (Y/n), she couldn't be selfish, she couldn't run out and be free if she wanted to.
She peeked around the corner, watching as her parents discussed with a doctor about her. Both of them shocked and close to tears, her mother especially. It was even more intense than the time they told her of her little sibling. She was too young to understand, but the pained look on her mother's face gave her a sign that something felt off.
"What do you mean? If you are joking with me I swear," Her mother said angrily standing up from her seat. She only got held back from her father's hands on her shoulders. (Y/n) became curious, but also frightened, what could make her mother react so violently.
"What makes you so sure?" She asked harshly.
"The blood tests, as well as the symptoms. There's no doubt." A rather cold voice spoke to her, and her mother nearly broke out in tears.
"Did you have any family history with the disease." Her mother seemed to freeze at his gaze before looking away. She looked in despair, almost shamefully, before nodding. "My mother, and a few other family members have suffered from it." She squeezed her hands into fists, letting them loose and covering her face. "I never would have imagined my daughter would suffer from this curse as well." She sobbed into her hands. The sight of her mother crying made the little girl start to cry as well. She could feel tears spill from her eyes, and she quickly escaped before she could sob out loud and get caught.
"Why was she crying? She mentioned my name, Did I do something wrong?" She asked quietly as she sat on her hospital bed.
"So," Meanwhile the Doctor spoke, while her mother nodded.
"I want to keep her here, but," She gazed at her husband with longing and sadness, before she sighed tiredly. "We no longer wish to see her. We wish to keep her in your hands Doctor Iwazumi." Her mother then bowed, sounding desperate. The doctor didn't say anything but he nodded without a word. The old couple gave a grateful thanks to the doctor.
"Shouldn't we at least visit one last time?" Her father said looking back at his daughter's room. While her mother vigorously shook her head while tugging her husband out of the hospital. The pain becoming too much to bear she wished for nothing more than an escape. "I no longer wish to bear this pain inflicted on me any longer. I no longer have any children." She said, but the tears and the voice crack betrayed her.
Meanwhile little (Y/n) had calmed down, and now waited on her bed. Her little legs hanging off the edge as she waited for her parents to come through the door. If only she had realized earlier, that it was the last she would see them in person.
-----------------------------------------
Licht felt something in his chest, becoming more heavy as he processed her words. (Y/n) had looked away from him, a look of shame crossing her face. "For the longest while, I blamed myself for it. I cried but I didn't beg for them to come back. What could I blame other than myself?" She said wrapping her arms around herself. The lost look in her eye, nearly tore his heart in half. His fists clenched, and his hands found their way to their shoulders. He looked at her with such intensity, she froze.
"Don't be stupid. I refuse to hear you say it's your fault." He said squeezing her shoulders. His head dropped down now looking down. "How can something out of your control be your fault?" The rhetorical question seemed to rain hard on her, and she couldn't answer. Meanwhile Licht seemed angry, he didn't know why or at whom but he felt intense anger. They abandoned her so easily, and for what? To run away from their own pain? It was cowardice like that, that made him fume. The fact that she to suffer all by herself made him just feel worse.
"I'm sorry." She spoke out of nowhere.
"Don't. Stop apologizing." He said a little too harshly. The raw emotion of everything started to weigh in. He had to control his temper so he breathed in and out.
"So, from there you just stayed at the hospital?" He asked.
"Yes..."

White
Nothing but white.
The sight she only ever saw for quite a while. So much that she started to hate the color. The smell of medication and chemicals invaded her nose and made her cringe everyday. The sunlight flowing through the window made her even more sad. For she wanted to go out and embrace it, let it touch her skin. The glass of the window reminded her just how far from the outside she was. She hated the everyday beeping from the machines attached to her, it made her look far from normal. And another reminder that she would stay for years to come. Maybe forever, the thought made her throat and eyes burn.
Just earlier, she ran around, she felt happy like a normal girl. It wasn't her fault her body was cursed.
(Y/n), now 13 years old, laid in her bed with her mood reaching the peak of boredom. She already had finished everything she wanted to do, and it was not like she had much to do in the first place. With the utmost caution, she detached herself from the machine, a little walk would not kill her. Getting crutches to her aid she let her bare feet touch the tiles for the first time. The floor felt cold, and smooth, the coolness making her shiver slightly. She slowly crept up to the window, peeking down at the courtyard, her new destination. She maneuvered through the halls like a ghost, managing to slip past even the most observing nurses. She grinned to herself in success as she reached the courtyard.
Feeling the warmth of the suns rays on her skin brought her new life. The fresh air replenished in her lungs, erasing the fumes of chemicals. She let her feet touch the grass, the bristles brushing roughly against her foot. Her toes wiggled letting them loosen up to the outside, no longer cramped. She continued, moving from the sun to the shade and she sat. She missed it so much. Her moment of ecstasy in her freedom became broken by realization, letting a crack in the dam before her eyes.
"Hmm~" A little hum made her head snap up in alarm. Was it a nurse? Had she been caught? She got shivers along her spine as she remembered the last time she faced her doctor when she got in trouble. Her head looking in all directions before in a flash it landed on a young man. At first she became confused.
"Um, who are you mister? Are you a hospitalized patient too?" She asked a little timid. The man paused before laughing to himself, the tone making (Y/n) tense up.
"It's boring right? This place?" He asked, his shades slightly lowering. Revealing bejeweling crimson eyes to her. She tilted her head, the man creeped her out a little.
"Yes." She answered his question, absent minded but honest.
"So tell me why a little bird like you is in a place like this?" He asked. (Y/n) blinked at the nickname, even more confused. None the less she continued to indulge in conversation.
"I have to. Apparently I have a so called fatal disease. I hate it, this place, this cursed body, they remind me of why parents left me here." She spoke out, more tears collecting and falling.
"You've been left behind. Abandoned, cast aside much like a tool after doing its job..." The man mumbled into his sleeve. His eyes seemed to cast a gleam as he stared at the girl. The faintest of grins appeared on his face, but he plastered on a fake smile. His hand reached out to pat her head lightly, her stiffening infer his touch and eyeing him curiously. "You seem to have quite the story (Y/n). Mind telling me, I'm sure it's interesting." He said playfully. She couldn't be more confused as to why a strange man would want to hear her life story. She would have said more, but she got interrupted.
"(Y/n)." She nearly let out a scream as the icy voice resonated behind her. She nervously peeked back, peering into the glare of Doctor Iwazumi. She looked back but noticed as the strange man had disappeared. She remained quiet, not even sparing a single word. Standing up on her crutches, she retreated back to her room.
--------------------------------------------
Licht seemed to freeze, and remain frozen before (Y/n) started worrying about him.
She shook him, "Licht-san? What is it?" She asked concerned before she could feel him grab her again.
"Did he do anything?" He asked.
"What?"
"Did that man do anything?" He asked getting more frantic. She blinked not expecting his tone, and from his eyes scanning her she could tell it seemed serious. "N-No. Why?" She asked stuttering. Licht seemed to release a breath he had been holding in. But his mind remained alert, why of all things did she encounter him? And in this place too, where she would remain vulnerable.
"Did you know the man somehow?" She asked. Licht lips went into a thin line, now didn't seem to be the right time to tell her. "No, it's nothing." He said dismissing her. She remained skeptical but didn't pry.
"So.."
"Yeah, that's about as much as I want to tell and remember. I thought I finally broke free of the curse but it had come back." She said as her thumb rubbed her fingers.
"(Y/n), you never told me, what is it?" He asked.
She shook her head, smiling but he could see the glimmer of tears flowing down. "I thought I would be able to. But why am I hesitating?" She asked herself not even taking in Licht's presence. Licht reached out and cradled her face, gently wiping the streaks on her cheek. "I guess I forgot what fear felt like." She said clasping his wrists and pulling him away from her.
"Licht-san, I'm sorry. When you said you loved me, I was really happy, but I became scared too."
"Why?" This undying anxiety that bubbled in him started gnawing at his chest.
"Because, I'm relapsing, with Leukemia, and if I don't find the right treatment soon, then I'm going to die." Everything right then and there, seemed to freeze in its place leaving a heavy feeling in the air.
