Movement 17
"....s...e...ing....lt..."
"....aining...s...ard...to..."
(Y/n) heard faint whispers reach her ears, but she couldn't determine who they belong to. All she heard were mysterious voices. What happened to her in the passing time? Her consciousness was lost and she was drifting in the realm of sleep. Until they started getting louder.
"She's...ving! Hey!"
"(L/n)-chan!"
They just kept getting louder and familiar, then she slowly started to process everything as her eyelids opened sluggishly. The first few seconds, she was hit with a bright light and loud voices that had to potential to bring about a headache. But she shifted, groaning, letting the last seconds of grogginess pass. Her eyes fully opened and she saw a white ceiling. A white ceiling she was indeed quite acquainted with. In a spur of shock she abruptly tried to sit up, only to be stopped by a flooding of pain in her abdomen. She cringed; she bent over as if that would bring relief for the pain.
"(L/n)-chan! Careful!" A loud exclamation and and pair of hands softly held her giving her support. It took a few moments for her to process everything, and the pain wasn't making it easy.
"Mahiru-san?" She finally said quietly recognizing the voice. Her own voice was quiet as if it hurt to speak out. The boy sighed out, a release of tension and he relaxed as he backed off and gave her space. Her eyes scanned everything, and the rest of her senses followed. A hospital room..that was where she was. Her mood dropped and she kept herself slouched over for a minute.
"(L/n)-chan. How're you feeling right now?" Mahiru asked being as cautious as possible.
"I would say I'm fine, but that's not being honest." She said, even her tone seemed quite depressed. She thought to herself of the situation prior, the sudden realization coming to her, cracking like lightening in her brain.
"Licht-san..." The call of his name was quiet, yet it seemed like a yell. Mahiru stiffened, and his expression became dark. At the moment, he now despised himself.
"I'm sorry (L/n)-chan....I couldn't do anything...he got taken."
(Y/n) could only remained silent as the last shred of memory she had before she lost consciousness, was Licht being taken away. The fact settled in her stomach, sinking painfully; the fact that he was only in more danger...that the percent chance of a fatal occurrence has grown in the time passed. For that she feared, to the point where she had begun to feel an underlying panic.
"I'm sorry.." Mahiru's voice cracked, even he sounded like he was in a deep pain. When he didn't need to be. (Y/n) sighed, pushing away everything for a moment, straightening herself. She leaned back, avoiding bringing even more stress to the injured area, and faced him.
"Mahiru-san, you're alright?" She asked observing the boys change in posture.
He let out a bitter chuckle, "Thanks to Licht-san I'm fine physically." He ran his hand through his short hair letting out a frustrated groan.
"Everything's a mess. And now Kuro is trapped."
"Oh! Kuro-san...I wonder what caused that." She spoke recalling the bizarre scene. Mahiru flinched, his mouth in a thin line. But he brought out the sphere holding the lazy vampire. (Y/n) blinked looking at it, to her it looked empty.
"I don't know. I just want to get him out as soon as possible."
(Y/n) paused, now even more confused, to her the sphere was empty. Perhaps this was another Eve and Servamp connection she was unaware of? She didn't want to say anything, so she could only wave awkwardly.
"Kuro-san..I hope you're alright too." She said. Mahiru paused but then spoke in a frantic shock.
"W-Wait! (L/n)-chan! You can see Kuro?!"
So much for preventing an outburst, Mahiru seemed shocked as ever. (Y/n) drew her hand back, glancing to the side.
"Actually I can't." She said sweat dropping, the declaration making Mahiru feel disappointed.
"Right I forgot. Only I can see him." He mumbled clutching the sphere.
The moment of her distraction ended, as the feeling came back to her. Growing fear, underlying anxiety, feelings she hasn't felt in quite a while. Her fingers clenched and unclenched the fabric of the bed sheets. There was the tiny part of her that felt frustration, she couldn't even do anything. How could she? She was a weak individual, there wasn't anything much she could do. But this illogical anger with herself remained. Before she realized she felt liquid stream down her cheeks from her glossy eyes. The dam had broken. She let the tears, the stress fall silently. Mahiru noticed and only watched, both guilt and sorrow gnawing at him.
"Sorry Mahiru-san.." She whispered viciously rubbing her eyes with her sleeves, the attempt to stop them proved difficult. In the spur of the moment.
"No, I was too weak and hesitant to do anything. Scared if anything.." Mahiru said, he was berating himself. The sound of him, hating himself. His anger with himself showed more, it caused (Y/n) to rethink. By then her tears have stopped. She thought for a moment before speaking again.
"Mahiru-san are you blaming yourself?" She asked, her voice became more calm. Mahiru only blinked and stared silently. (Y/n) quietly waited herself, just observing him. He shifted awkwardly looking away, almost too ashamed to talk. That gave (Y/n) an answer.
"Let me ask you something.." She offered, her voice soft. Mahiru became slightly flustered, but nodded nonetheless.
"Did you have overall control over the situation?" She asked, he thought for a moment.
"W-Well n-no...m-maybe.." Even he himself seemed confused over his own answer. He ruffled his own hair in frustration.
"B-But I could have-"
"No. There was so many things that happened, and you're just one person." She said. Mahiru just looked at her in disbelief.
"I don't know much about the Servamp world. But I do know about taking priority over the ones you care about. Sometimes other things just become so complicated... the situation just end up worse." She said, an image flashed in her head which brought a painful constrict in her chest. But her poise maintained, and she sat in silence along with Mahiru.
"I wonder if he's ok?" She spoke absentmindedly. Mahiru's eyes glanced at her; she seemed dazed. He paused, but then stood up abruptly not even speaking.
"Mahiru-san?" She called as the silence just pertained for some time. He breathed in and out deeply, and his expression changed again.
"(L/n)-chan, Don't worry I'm going to save him." He said with more determination. (Y/n) was a little taken aback from the change in attitude. But she smiled at him sincere.
"I guess your spirit has come back." She commented grinning at him.
"Yeah. I'll keep what you said in mind."
"That's good. Also, if you happen to meet Licht-san. Tell him I'm waiting for him and supporting him from here." She stated. There were a lot things she wanted to tell him actually, but she kept it brief. The chance of meeting him again still loomed, and she clung onto it.
Mahiru nodded, "Of course."
The door then opened, Doctor Iwazumi walked in in a indifferent manner. His glaring eyes landed on Mahiru.
"Visiting hours ended." He spoke in a short biting sentence that caused Mahiru's shoulders to quiver. (Y/n) only frowned, not even looking at Iwazumi, but at Mahiru.
"Mahiru-san. Be careful alright?" She asked. He gave one last nod before bidding her goodbye. He got even more shivers as he walked past Iwazumi. However Iwazumi's had driven his attention to (Y/n), who just looked out the window. She didn't even bother to look him in the eye.
"You know stressing about the situation won't help your health." He said. (Y/n) didn't answer.
"Clinging onto these childish hopes, even just praying won't bring him back." Iwazumi said, his voice growing more fierce. It caused a fire in the girl as she clenched at her sheets.
"Are you just saying this to get a reaction from me?" She asked staring out the wide window. Her voice held her own venom to it.
"I'm saying what is most logical. You'll end up in an even worse state if you continue to run aimlessly like this."
"Aimlessly?" She repeated the word, finally facing the man with a glare. A very blighting glare.
"I don't feel the need to explain to you that what I do for him isn't aimless." She said putting much authority into her voice. Iwazumi wasn't phased at all but he did raise a brow in question. He has never seen her this passionate. She turned away from him, trying to relax.
"Explaining my feelings to someone like you would be aimless." She said. Iwazumi dismissed the comment feeling not the need to argue with her. But something in him gripped at his mind.
"Even so, these feelings you have-"
"I know what you're trying to say. But don't, not right now, just leave me alone." She said, the message to expel him. It worked as he walked out of the room. The coldness in the air dropped and (Y/n) laid down on the bed. She had long forgotten the pain in her abdomen due to the confrontation, and now she could hardly care about herself. She just laid there lost in her thoughts, lost in the creeping loneliness that was building.
"It has been a while since I stayed in these rooms." She remarked. The minutes passed by, and she only grew more bored. The only option left was to sleep or just stare out the window. She needed to distract herself, only thinking of Licht would only worsen her mood. Luckily, her phone brought upon just that. She reached for her jacket, hanging by the side of the bed.
"Hello?" She answered.
"Bonjour (Y/n)-chan!"
"Krantz-san!" She greeted. Her tone of voice matched that of the bubbly manager. She felt glad to hear his voice, even with the current events.
"How are you?" Krantz asked, his voice suddenly drifting away from lighthearted to concerned.
"I'm fine...for now." She said. She could hear Krantz sigh on the other end.
"Sorry (Y/n)-chan, I would come visit you. But I'm currently waiting to get Licht back." He said. He sounded really stressed, but also not that dismayed.
"I don't mind. So I'm guessing everyone's going then?" She asked. She remembered Mahiru mentioning some of his other friends, who also happened to be Eves as well.
"Of course! It's like this whole rescue mission you see in films!"
(Y/n) snickered at the comment, but her eyes drifted and she hung her head.
"I'm sorry I can't do much. But I'm hoping..he comes back safe." Her voice became quiet as it cracked. She couldn't hear Krantz for a while as he seemed quiet.
"Don't worry about him too much. You know Licht, he would forcefully kick his way out." Krantz continued giving jovially comments that just made (Y/n) smile. Which hung true, Licht was indeed too powerful of a person. She knew that.
"Ah, your little friend Mahiru just called me. I'll be sure to visit you later. Salut~" He exclaimed before hanging up. (Y/n) stared at her phone screen blankly and just tossed it next to her on the sheets. She shifted around on the bed, the pain on her bruise now dull. She worried, worried, worried so much for him. Every time she closed her eyes, her brain would concur up an image of them together just to taunt her. The growing fear, enough to make her eyes and throat burn, felt everlasting. But all she could do was lay down in the dreary room, without doing more damage to herself. Her hand went into her coat pocket, foraging around in the tiny space, before she felt a cool sensation of metal.
She pulled out a charm, along with a chain. A silver angel. She let it sit in between her fingers, and she ran her thumb along the cool metal. It seemed like a mere object, but she allowed herself to put meaning into it. She chuckled, she thought Licht would find that too childish or cliche. But to her it meant something. She sat up just gazing at the metal, lost, quiet. She let it sit between the space of her two thumbs and fingers, and for the first time she prayed silently in her mind. A last resort, she didn't care if she looked stupid. Just something..to make sure he was safe, if it was a prayer she would gladly provide. She even shut her eyes, mumbling internally, for quite some time.
"I can't stay by your side, if you don't come back." She whispered letting her head hang. What scene of desperation this was, but she just focused on one person. She wished, and she would wait. For him.
---------------------------------
Doctor Iwazumi reentered her room, but she was too distracted. His face remained stone, and he didn't catch her attention until he was in close proximity across the bed.
"What?" She asked biting her voice out.
"I wanted to inform you. All the tests came out, and you're relapsing. Unless I can figure out another remedy, survival statistics are unknown." He explained. He wasn't even sympathetic in his tone.
Even more shockingly (Y/n) wasn't even shocked, for she just gave three forced sounds of what seemed like a laugh. Slowly lifting her shirt for her to see an ugly, dark shade of a bruise, looking worse than usual.
"I picked up on that." She said picking up the charm in her fingers again.
"Although I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about something else."
She sighed, laying her palm on her chin as her her knees bent to her chest. She clutched hard on the charm, seemingly soothed by the feel of the shape.
"I'm waiting for him. So I can see him at least one more time."
