Movement 11

Licht tapped his finger on his elbow, sitting with his legs and arms crossed. It had been around half an hour, and he was still waiting for (Y/n). He didn't force her to wake up as he figured she already felt weak from when he saw her. His ears caught the sound of her groaning and he stood abruptly next to her. She squirmed slightly, her face contorted in slight pain from the harsh light.

"I fell asleep?" She mumbled her question, her forearm sluggishly rubbing her eyes.

"(Y/n)." Licht called to her, and her forearm fell from her forehead instantly.

"Licht-san, you're still here?" She asked looking at him in shock. She never even realized he had stayed.

"I told you I would stay here didn't I? Come on I'm taking you home." He said, his voice soft but demanding.

"I'm still in the hospital?" She looked around seeing the white walls and the mess of medical supplies. Her eyes widened as she tried sitting up only to be stopped by Licht's grip on her shoulder again.

"It's ok, he's not here. You're allowed to leave." He said, his voice still soft as if trying to calm her. Thankfully it looked to be working as she leaned back.

"Oh."

"You're ok to stand and walk?" Licht asked. (Y/n) shrugged, and moved her legs as if testing out the question. Her legs felt heavy once she slid them off the bed, one step on the white tile and she could feel her body lunge forward. She felt Licht catch her, and her face implanted onto his chest. She could feel his chest rise, and fall with every breath he took, but she also felt his heartbeat from the position. It was quicker than a usual one.

"Looks like you can't." He said sighing.

"I can. I just need a minute." (Y/n) said pushing herself up. After a few minutes of standing, she started walking. Although she began a wobbling with each step, she managed to start walking again.

"See?" She giggled slightly showing a small smile.

"Alright, then I should get you home." He said. He dismissively walked out into the busy hall, waiting for her to gather her things. He thought to himself, about the words that Doctor Iwazumi said to him. It bothered him, more than it should. There was something about (Y/n) he didn't know about, actually there was a lot that he didn't know about her. It was mutual, he didn't know about her and she didn't know about him. Maybe it was better this way, just stay in this small bubble of friendship where it was safe for both of them.

But did he really want that?

He knew his feelings, no matter how annoying, were growing the more times the encountered each other. Of course, he played them off as him being stupid. He has never encountered feelings like these.

"Licht-san. You're spacing out." He blinked seeing (Y/n) wave her hand in front of his face. He grumbled and swatted it away.

"You got everything?" He asked, she nodded.

"Then let's go."
------------------------------------------

The walk back was silent, both in a good and bad way. Licht still had the words said to him in his mind, meanwhile (Y/n) just kept thinking about random things from the encounter with her doctor to Licht. Just the one thought that made her happy, and her heart skip.
"He stayed with me..."
To Licht he may not understand, how much it meant to her that he stayed. She felt herself blushing again, heavily. She slapped her cheeks covering it up.

Her eyes glanced over to the little pond they had visited earlier. Her mouth formed a smile as she stopped, Licht caught her movement in the corner of his eye.

"Oi, why'd you stop?" He asked glaring at her.

"It's the lake." She said with her eyes gleaming. Licht sighed, he couldn't believe she was fawning over a lake. He closed his eyes and tried to reason with her.

"(Y/n), you still have the chance of passing out. You need to go home." He said, as he opened his eyes he found the area in front of him empty.
"Eh?" His skin turned white and he froze. He heard her laughing and he felt a vein pop on his forehead. He glared at her form running on the grass, and he ran after her.

"Oi!" He called out to her and she looked back at him grinning. She continued running, and it turned in a game of tag, although Licht wasn't amused in the slightest. He caught up to her; He stopped in front of her and flicked her forehead hard.
"Ow!"

"Do you ever listen?! Why'd you just run off?!" Licht yelled at her, she paused for a moment. Licht's glared hard, but he caught notice of her shoulders trembling slightly. He stopped glaring and just looked at her.

"I'm sorry." She apologized, her eyes were covered by the shadow of her bangs. He just stared confused at her, until he saw the shine in her eyes. The shine, of tears in her eyes. His chest constricted again as his eyes widened slightly. Those weren't like the happy tears he had seen when she had listened to his music, these were much more dejected. Why was she crying? He felt guilt wash on him, he felt like it was his yelling that caused the tears to appear. Perhaps he had been a little too harsh.

"I'm sorry...there's just too much going on." She wiped her eyes, and turned around so she wouldn't have to face him. She felt greatly embarrassed that Licht saw the tears easily. She felt as she had seen the lake, maybe sitting down watching the calm body of water, and just running would ease her away from the stress. That wasn't a good idea as she remembered Licht was there, and it brought her back to the time earlier. Licht had stayed with her back at the hospital, and there she was wanting to run.

"Sorry..." She apologized again, her voice cracking at the end. Licht could feel his chest constrict again, the sight of her crying was just heart breaking to him. Something was eating at him, that it was more than just his yelling that triggered those tears. He felt timid, just standing frozen there as he watched her cry. Even more guilt piled up on him as he heard each hiccup and sniffle that came from her. His fists clenched inside his pockets and he took his own initiative. His arms crept slowly around her frame, he kept hesitating with every movement. Each became shy and awkward, but he managed to turn her around and embrace her. He seemed a bit more confident since there were not much people around. He physically felt her stiffen, but he kept his held on her.

"Stop apologizing idiot. It's ok I'm not mad." He said calming himself and trying to calm her down as well. She stayed stiff, with every second ticking by she finally relaxed until she welcomed the embrace. Internally Licht felt relieved, it was the first time he ever did that and he felt a great deal of awkwardness. Eventually seeing her relax made him relax too and they stayed there for a while. Until (Y/n) separated from him, her eyes red but no longer spilling tears.

"Better?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'm sorry. I just kind of lost it right there."

"How many times do I have to tell you to stop apologizing?" He then poked her forehead forcefully. She chuckled to herself feeling a heavy weight being elevated.

"Can we sit?" She asked pointing to the lake. Licht didn't argue and just followed her onto a patch of grass. The air was pretty cool, but the sun balanced it out with its shining rays. The two laid quietly in a serene air, letting themselves relax. After the ordeal, Licht wanted to make sure (Y/n) was relaxed and ok. So he just joined her, glancing at her from time to time.

"You want to know why I was in the hospital right?" She asked up suddenly, piquing Licht's interest.

"I did."

"I can tell you." She said. Now it was too sudden, he began questioning her.

"Why are you telling me now?" He asked.

"Perhaps...sooner rather than later is the best reason. I'll tell you, just not everything."

"It's true, I went to the hospital for a blood test." She said, and now she sat up leaning her body weight on her two hands behind her. Licht couldn't see her expression as she kept her face forward.
"The night before...I collapsed." Licht's breath hitched, he thought he heard wrong but she spoke before he could say anything.

"I'm sick, not the flu type either. Might even be fatal perhaps, I don't know yet."

This time Licht sat up, his attention fully to her. She still didn't face him and instead looked at the scene of the lake. Licht for the first time, didn't know what to say, what to think. What could he say to her? He heard her chuckling, a humorless chuckle that gave way to a melancholy tone.

"This is part where people usually pity me."

Licht swallowed, "What kind?" He asked. He wanted to know. Something aching in him to find out, more powerful than just naive curiosity.

"Now that's the secret part. I'm sorry, I can't tell you not until I know first at least."

Perhaps this was where people say Karma. Both individuals have secret that they can't reveal, personal reasons. Licht felt an ugly feeling, call it anger, helplessness, maybe even pity like she said. And it's something he hated, that ugly feeling, he hated even himself for feeling it.

"Hey Licht-san, if I had told you about my sickness before. Would you have done everything for me out of pity instead?"

"Don't be stupid." He could only argue, but he really had to think. Deep down he would have, even if externally he was the same as ever. It only made him feel worse. But with one more glance, he felt his opinion change, pity would be there yes, but that has changed once he spent time with her. This time she faced him with an inquisitive expression.
"I'm...not good at making friends or expressing myself outright. But I definitely know that I wouldn't have done everything out of pity." He could feel his heart beat quicken, and he locked his gaze with his intertwined fingers.

"I spend time with you, because it's just you."

"Oh." She said out, not anticipating the answer and serious expression she got from him. Her cheeks dusted red, more visible to his pink dusted ones. Once more she faced the lake.

"Thank you for saying that." She said shyly. Now it just became awkward again as they both stared at the natural scene.

"Licht-san, how's your piano playing going?" She asked laying back down and finally facing him. He slowly eased himself back into a lying position, his arms folded behind his head.

"I'm getting ready for an upcoming concert." He admitted.

"Is that why you've been working so hard that you're stressing so much?"

"You could say that."

"Hm..." She hummed closing her eyes.
"I would love to see you live in a concert, every piece of music just coming together." She said smiling happily. It made Licht feel lighthearted as well.
"It's been a wish of mine to do so."

Licht pondered and just spoke the words that he thought up in his mind, "I would want you to come anyway." He said. He wanted to slap himself for saying that, he spoke out his inner feelings. The red hue of (Y/n)'s cheeks grew deeper in color.

"R-Really?"

Licht didn't answer but only gave a nod, turning extremely shy for the moment. He decided he needed a fast subject change.

"By the way, do you like any other piano artists?"

"Eh?" She thought for a moment, "(Name favorite classical piano artist here)."

"Classical huh?" Licht questioned a little intrigued, not a lot of young people name classical artists as their favorite that quickly.

She nodded, "Classical has stuck out as an interesting genre. All of the other genres have their strong points and weak points, but I guess classical just has that elegant story telling aspect that I just like." She shifted herself until she was lying on her side facing him.

"Like you do, classical pieces always have a story to tell. The instrumental only makes it more subtle and harder to find, and that I find interesting." She rambled on getting very into the subject while Licht just listened. He heard the sincerity in her voice, and he lost himself in her rambles. It was a mutually interested topic after all. He listened to her described the music, the instruments, her thoughts, and the way she became interested in it herself. Her voice...he got lost in her voice, something about her voice so melodious. He intently stared at her just listening without interruption and then she stopped. He could see the blush develop on her face when her voice paused.

"I'm sorry, I rambled too long."

"I've noticed you tend to do that." Licht commented, and a feeling of amusement came upon him seeing her flustered expression.

"Um, Licht-san...I have a question."

He raised a brow and wait for her to continue.

"You're sort of like a prodigy right? I mean why do you work so hard that you have to stress so much?" She asked. Licht positioned himself looking at her straight in the eyes.

"In my opinion, someone without a clear goal. A clear view of the path they want to take is just someone lost. And therefore, although it seems harsh, whatever you want to do, whatever you want to succeed in is useless. Humans need motivation, they need drive in order to achieve anything. Piano is my passion, and if I want to even achieve the dream of professionalism I work hard. I drive myself." Licht said giving the most serious look to her, she blushed under his gaze and nodded none the less.

"That's quite something Licht-san. I didn't think you would get that serious over the question." (Y/n) said adding her laughter at the end. Licht suddenly felt embarrassed and he clicked his tongue.

"Shut up, be grateful I at least answered your question." He said annoyed. She laughed some more bringing a light hearted feeling. Then she closed her eyes humming.

"Drive and motivation huh? You gave me something to think about Licht-san." She said. Her form relaxed settling into the grass.

"Oi, (Y/n).." Licht saw her soft breathing and her arms slumped to her sides. Her face in totally serene as she fell asleep. Just like before, he felt his heart skip, and the blush appear on his face. Finally showing the color as there was no one to witness him. Licht gave an annoyed huff and he let his arm rest at his side adjacent to hers.

"Idiot, falling asleep already. I didn't even get you home yet."

He found there was no use to argue as she was already in deep sleep. He decided to just relax and let her sleep for a bit, his own eyes closing. The two reposed, bathing in the sunlight's warmth, enjoying just one another's company.
