CHAPTER 8 - Foe

Jovie looked at the board that read Crimson cafe and walked inside. She scanned the entire cafe to find Aidan but he was nowhere to be seen. She got seated on a table nearby and dialed Aidan's number. When he didn't receive her call, she messaged him.

Hey, where are you? (Jovie)

There was still no reply from his side. She sat there and waited for an hour before she left the place.

She convinced herself that he might have been caught up in some work but somewhere deep inside she was upset that he didn't even bother to send her a message.

She went back to her apartment to face already waiting Lucy.

"How was it? Did you kiss him?" Lucy asked, excitedly.

"No." Jovie ignored her and jumped into her bed.

Lucy took the hint and asked. "Did you eat?"

"Well, I just need sleep right now." Jovie held back her tears.

She was confused as to why this damn incident was hurting her so much. She wanted to stay calm and unbothered but failed miserably when tears rolled down her cheek one after the other.

**

Jovie was walking in a dark house. She opened the door to enter one of the rooms. She saw a picture frame on the table. She walked closer to it and studied it with tears in her eyes. It was her family picture. Suddenly she heard a noise from outside. She rushed out of the room and saw a man shattering all the photo frames.

"Just stop it." Jovie shouted.

The man turned towards her. His face was not visible, he looked like a black shadowy figure. He walked closer to Jovie and grabbed her neck.

She was struggling and trying to push him away.

The next moment she was gasping for air. She blinked her eyes several times before she came back to reality that she was in her bed and that was a nightmare or a vision perhaps.

She looked at the time and it was 7:00 a.m.. She decided to wake up and get ready for school.

Before going to shower she checked her phone in the hope to see Aidan's message but she was disappointed.

Great start!

Once she and Lucy were ready, they walked to school. Jovie hadn't spoken much even in the morning and Lucy who noticed it was desperately trying to lighten up the mood.

After finishing their morning classes they walked to cafeteria. They sat on an empty table since Ethan was not there yet.

"Oh look! The bitches are sitting alone today." They heard a girl.

"I am glad Ethan saw their reality." Another girl muttered.

"Ethan's fangirls." Jovie rolled my eyes and looked at Lucy.

"How about teaching them some manners?" Lucy grinned.

"Forget it." Jovie shrugged.

"Can you believe it? I heard that Jovie bitch is cursed." They heard them talk.

"What?!" One of the girls exclaimed.

"Yeah. It seems that she killed her father and her mother left cuz she was tired of Jovie's shit."

"These bitches!" Lucy roared and walked to their table. "Don't you have better work to do than gossiping useless shit."

"We were just discussing the truth." One of the girls named Kayla snapped.

"You girls are legit pieces of shit." Lucy muttered with pure disgust.

Ethan came and hugged Lucy from the back. "Do not waste your energy and time cuz of them."

He held Lucy's hand and brought her back to the table where Jovie was sitting.

Jovie was still absorbing what the girls had said. She was loosing her control again. She was feeling fine lately but one trigger is enough to start everything all over again.

"Hey, don't you take them seriously." Ethan consoled her.

"Yeah." Jovie nodded with a small smile.

**

It had been a long time since they spent time together, they decided to hangout after school.

They all went to Lucy's apartment together and watched movie, ate snacks and had fun.

Jovie went to her part time job and gave Lucy and Ethan some privacy.

Aidan had still not replied to her message. She hoped that he'd at least come to the library to return the book.

After finishing her job she was walking home.

"Come and save me." She heard her father's voice.

"Mommy misses you." She heard her mother's voice.

"You're a piece of shit. A curse." She heard another voice.

She lost her balance, feeling dizzy. She had tears in her eyes. She missed her parents. She wanted to live happily but everyone reminded her of the past.

When she came back to her senses she decided to go to her house where she spent her childhood and where she lost everything.

She took a taxi and in about 45 minutes she reached there.

The door was locked but earlier the cops had given her the key and the property papers.

She walked inside the cold, dark house. It had been a long time since she had been here but she immediately felt a sense of deja vu.

She walked inside a room and saw a picture frame on the table. It was her family picture. She immediately heard a noise from outside.

She was terrified when she remembered the same thing happened in her dream. She regretted coming here. She locked the room and immediately dialed the first number in her contacts. It was Aidan's number.

She dropped her phone when she heard loud banging on the door.

And with one last loud bang the door broke and somebody entered the room. Jovie quickly hid herself under the bed. She heard a shattering noise and noticed the her family picture frame on the floor. The footsteps were now coming closer to her.

Somebody grabbed her hand and forecefully pulled her out of the bed. She was horrified when she looked at that person. It was the person she expected the least.
