The halls of Charle's mansion were silent, most of the members that were currently living there had gone to sleep. However, you couldn't, sleep just seemed to slip through your fingers every time you tried to catch it.
As you walked down stairs you heard giggling coming from Charles's office. Curiosity was eating you alive, so you walked over to the office door and opened it. You were met by a sight that cause a smile to spread across your face.
"What is going on here?" You asked in a stern voice, trying to scare the occupants of the office. Charles and Erik were sat on one of the sofas in Charles's office, beer bottles were strewn across the floor and an open bottle of whiskey was on the table.
"Busted." Erik muttered, Charles burst out laughing while Erik gave a cheeky grin.
You walked over to the pair and picked up the bottle on the table and took a swig, whiskey was one of your favourite alcoholic beverages.
"I'm offended that you didn't leave enough for me." You grinned at the two boys on the sofa, taking another huge mouthful of whiskey.
"I'm sorry, love, we didn't know you would be joining us. There's more in cupboard." Charles chuckled, pointing to a cabinet behind his desk. Nodding you walked over and brought out two more bottles.
"Jesus (y/n), we don't need that much." Erik stated, looking as you struggled to hold three bottles of whiskey and back over to them.
"You don't. This is for you." You answered, handing them the half empty bottle of whiskey, before sitting down in an armchair next to the sofa, "These are for me." You added, opening one of the bottles and drinking heavily from it.
"Hey, those are my whiskey bottles." Charles protested, making a feeble grab for the third bottle but you pulled it out of his reach.
"I know, however, since the both of you are reasonably drunk and I am stone cold sober, which I intend to change, it is only fair that I drink more." You replied, taking another drink from the bottle.
As you drank more, the three of you shared stories which you found much funnier than they would have been sober. Once the three of you had finished the bottles of whiskey, you all began to talk absolute nonsense, stories that you had heard or that had happened to you.
"And then." Erik gasped through fits of laughter, "She screamed that she needed to feed her chickens and ran away." He finished, laughing loudly.
You and Charles burst out laughing. Your head was resting in Charles lap as he ran his fingers through your hair. Once the laughter died down you started to get up, only to momentarily freeze when Charles protested.
"No don't leave. Where are you going?" He whined, pulling at your hand but you just laughed.
"I'm going for a smoke." You explained, standing up and walking over to your jacket to pull out your rolling tobacco, papers, filters and lighter. You sat back down next to Charles and started to roll a cigarette. Charles was watching you.
"Can I have one?" He asked, swaying slightly as he looked into your eyes.
"You don't smoke." You answered, an eyebrow raised as Charles just rolled his eyes.
"I might as well see what all the fuss is about." He stated, resting his head on your shoulder as you continued to roll.
"Do you want one, Erik?" You asked, looking over at him, but he shook his head hard.
"I do not want a cancer stick thank you very much." Erik slurred slightly, you just rolled your eyes.
Once you had finished rolling yours and Charles's cigarette's you stood up, put your jacket on and held a hand out to Charles, who grinned, took it and stood up.
"See you in a minute, Erik." You grinned as Charles led you outside, Erik just waved the both of you off.
The fresh air felt nice on your face, the stars were out and the night was beautiful. A soft breeze rustled the leafs on the trees near you. Charles's hand was still tightly holding yours.
"Charles I need my hand back to light my cigarette." You laughed, the alcohol in your system making everything seem to be either hilarious or magnificent. Charles groaned and reluctantly let go of your hand. You didn't know why Charles was being like this, not that you were complaining, you had always fancied Charles, but you worried that he didn't like you back and that it was just the alcohol.
You put the cigarette between your lips and lit the end of it and taking a long drag from it. Exhaling you gave Charles his cigarette and the lighter. He place the cigarette between his lips but struggled to light it. You laughed, causing Charles to look at you.
"Here. Take this one." You smiled, taking the cigarette from his lips and handing him the lit one. As you started to light your own Charles took a drag from his, you could see that he didn't inhale properly but he coughed none the less.
"Your not inhaling properly." You smiled at him, taking another drag from your own. He smiled and stepped a little closer to you.
"Then teach me." He mused, a smile spread across his face that made you weak at the knees.
"Okay, basically." You started, swaying a little, Charles grabbed your hand again, "You just need to keep breathing it in until you can feel it in your lungs. It might burn your throat a little but that just means you're doing it properly. Am I making sense?" You asked, laughing slightly, your drunken self amusing you.
"You are making perfect sense, my love." Charles grinned but his words were slightly slurred. He took another drag from the cigarette, you could see his chest puffing out as he inhaled. He began to cough, the smoke curling from his lips as he did. You laughed lightly.
"That's disgusting." He coughed out, handing you his cigarette, "How do you like that stuff?" He asked, straitening up and looking at you.
"Not a clue." You slurred, a grin forming on your face as you started smoking both yours and Charles's cigarettes. You looked out over the grounds of the mansion.
"It really is beautiful here." You sighed, a faint smile adorning your lips. Charles gave your hand a little squeeze.
"It's nothing compared to you." Charles muttered, you looked over to see that he was already staring at you. You just smiled at him.
"Look, (y/n). I need to tell you something. I've been having these feelings for you lately and I can't keep them in any longer. I am in love with you." He stated, he had the traces of a smile on his face, before you could say anything he started again, "I love how kind you are, how accepting you are of everyone, how you put others before yourself, how kind and gentle you are towards Hank and you encourage Raven to be herself. You are beautiful on both the inside and out. You are the most brilliant person I have ever met." He finished.
You smiled at him. But something held you back from telling him that you felt the same way, you were both very drunk so what he was saying could be absolute rubbish.
"Tell me when you're sober." You smiled sadly at him, giving his hand a little squeeze.
"I will." He answered, he then did something that you didn't expect. He kissed you.
His soft lips pressed against yours in a sweet kiss. You kissed back. Charles smiled into the kiss and pulled away slightly.
"Lets head back inside. Erik's waiting." He smiled, kissing your hand and pulling you inside. You dropped the butt of your cigarette and stamped it out.
The rest of the night was filled with laughter, stupid jokes between the three of you, dancing and not so secret glances between yourself and Charles.
✵
The next morning you woke up with a throbbing head ache, you looked at your surroundings and saw Erik sleeping on the sofa. You looked around but couldn't see Charles. That was until you heard soft snores coming from behind you. You turned your head slightly to see Charles, his arm was around your waist and his head was buried in the crook of your neck. You smiled softly, and placed a gentle kiss on his forehead.
Standing up, careful not to wake the others you slipped out of the office and walked into the kitchen. You checked your watch and saw that it was almost six in the morning, why you woke up this early baffled you.
You started to make yourself some coffee and making sure that there was enough left for Charles and Erik when they woke up. Once you had finished making it you sat on one of the stools next to the counter, picked up a news paper and began to read. It was about five minutes before someones voice cut through the silence.
"Morning, love." Charles mused, his voice was croaky and tried. You jumped a little and looked up from the news paper, he was leaning against the door frame to the kitchen
"Morning, Charles." You smiled, taking a sip of your coffee, nether of you breaking eye contact.
"Look, (y/n). About last night." Charles started, but you cut him off.
"I know, Charles. You were very drunk and didn't mean to say it. I get it. It won't ruin our friendship." You smiled, trying to keep the sadness out of your voice.
"Actually, love, I was going to say that I meant it. You told me to tell you when I was sober." He smiled, you could see a slight amount of sadness in his beautiful blue eyes, "I was going to tell you anyway, I'm just sorry that I told you in such an embarrassing way." He added, coming to sit opposite you. You shook your head.
"You didn't embarrass your self." You smiled, leaning forward and placing your hands over his, he smiled at the gesture, holding your hands in his and looking down at them.
"I'm glad you told me. I just wasn't sure if you actually did feel like that or if it was just the alcohol. I feel the same way for you too, Charles. I have loved you for quite some time now, and I was always worried that you didn't feel the same." You grinned, as Charles let out a huge smile.
He stood up and strode around the table, you turned in your chair to face him. He placed his hands on either side of your face and pressed his lips against yours. You kissed back, weaving your hands through his hair. As the kiss got more heated, Charles lifted you up and placed you on the counter so that he was in between your legs. As Charles pulled away from the kiss, he softly bit your lip. You both smiled.
"I love you too. Always have, always will." He whispered, placing his forehead onto yours. You smiled and pressed another kiss on his lips.
As the pair of you kissed, someone behind you started to clap. Startled you pulled away and looked over at the door. Erik was standing there slowly clapping, a smug look on his face.
"Finally. Now I don't have to listen to Charles whinge over you and talk about your eyes twenty-four seven." Erik grinned.
The three of you burst out laughing, Charles's arms wrapped around your waist and his head buried in the crook of your neck.
